Hey girls... it's been a heck of a couple months for us! My husband and I have made the decision to move to the Cincinnati area for job opportunities. I have accepted a position in Northern Kentucky, and we are in limbo waiting for his job opportunity to become available. Scary stuff, but we are managing! We acquired an townhouse and will be making the move next weekend. We will move almost all of our stuff, but he will have to stay until he gets his job... so he will be driving over on the weekends to see me and the cats. My step kiddos will be making plans to come stay on weekends as well... It's all coming together!

So, obviously scrapping has been put on temporary hold while all of this has been in the works... BUT, I have a plan on how to catch up on my MOC layouts! lol

Here's my question...
I'm packing a 'first night box' - so we have at least all the essentials needed for the first night before everything is unpacked. Is there anything you would suggest I don't forget to put in there? I think I've thought of the obvious ones, but my mind is all over the place right now!

Any help is appreciated!
xx

Hey Heidi,
Hubster and I have moved tons of times (ok, dozens). We always had a first night box. Paper plates, a few pieces of silverware, spatula, dishsoap, toiletries, hammer, screwdriver, pkg of small nails, paper towels, bedding, dishcloth, towels, washcloths. Insect spray ( for the ones you find inside), a few plastic cups, extension cord. Maybe a whisk broom and dust pan? A pkg. light bulbs.
That's just a few suggestions. We kinda have it down so that we don't think about it. We are a nomadic duo, lol!
Best to you- a change of venue can be a real boost!

The most obvious things are the things I usually forget: a toothbrush and a phone charger. I’ve also forgotten my passport once. That one plus your wallet are essential when you move of course, so don’t be me!!

So are you going to live in Ohio or Kentucky? I'm about 2 hours north of Cincinnati and have relatives in the greater Cincinnati area. They loved the area so much while going to college, they stayed! Another moved there for a position in northern Kentucky in the 70's but now live north of Cincinnati.

We will be living in Florence, KY - which is only about a 15 minute drive to Cincinnati. I have heard so many people say that they love the area... and I'm hoping we do to! :)

I lived in Lexington, Ky for 5 years many years ago. We would drive through Florence on our way to Michigan. I really liked the area. There used to be a water tower that said Florence Y'all that you could see from the highway.

Best wishes for you!

That is a nice area. And, you will be very close to the Cincinnati airport... that is located in Kentucky. Always have to laugh about that.

Well, you went by my town every time if you went up I-75!

Good luck on the move & being in limbo sounds hard but your planning sounds like you are making the best of it - wish I'd thought to have a first night now when moved several years ago instead of having to open everything looking for random stuff (only thing I'd add would be a roll of toilet paper & box of tissues, just in case they're not something you readily think of as a toiletry items )

Congrats on the move and best of luck to you!!
Maybe one evening before you leave, make a little note of most everything you do/use so that you have a good idea of what you might need the first night you're there.

That is such an awesome idea - going to write this down for whenever I end up moving

The obvious -- coffee pot, coffee, a couple of mugs and a snack or two. I'd also take several bottles of water.

No help on moving but I live in Northern Kentucky and work downtown Cincinnati so if you need any assistance on local stuff let me know.

Muscle relaxer or something for pain in case you over do it the first day?
