Curly girl! Have you heard of it??

Your hair looks amazing, Anne! Curly hair here, too. I'm definitely going to try this. The less I do to mine, the curlier it gets. I prefer letting it air dry when I have the time, but would love a quicker way to do it and still have the curls. Thanks for the info.
Same! If I just leave it, the curls get all twisty & springy.

So this is what my sister has been doing. She is raving about it.
But my curls are doing it's proper thing anyway, so I'll just continue my normal routine. I find this stuff much too expensive tbh.

One thing I read for any hair type is not to wrap a towel around your head but to be much more gentle. Just kind of blot with a towel (or in our Curly Girl case, a tee shirt like you mentioned). I wish I had the patience to do that, but I wrap my hair so I can quickly towel off the rest of myself and then style my hair.

I'm totally sitting here, with my hair wrapped in a towel, reading this.

My hair has alway been straight... I have have to use a curling iron for curls... now with hair short I just blow dry if we are going out to style it, but if I am not going anywhere I let it air dry.

@AnneofAlamo Huh! This is a revelation to me. However today, my hair is just one day from the haircut so it's shorter and it's just a headful of frizz. I may try the faux wash with conditioner. No fingernails? LOL I use my nailbrush for that...

I've done it in the past (Suave Strawberry conditioner with a microfiber towel) but I quit after about a year.

I referenced this page when I started: http://dormroomcurly.blogspot.com/2008/12/style-definitions-table.html

Currently, I use a smoothing cream and I air dry. I always have curls, but some days are a little more frizzier than others. I get a Brazilian Blowout at the beginning of summer, and that seems to help with the frizz through the humid season, but this year it didn't seem to work as well and I've had a lot of semi-frizzy days. (Not as frizzy as they would be if I didn't have the treatment done.) I think it might be because of the shampoo I recently switched to, because I can't find the one I really like (Suave Professionals, green bottles, in the bigger sizes) so I thought if I'm going to switch again, I might as well try no-poo for a while.

So I got my haircut yesterday and asked my hairdresser about this. She said that she has tested the DevaCurl but found that it left a pretty heavy coat on the hair. Well that might work for coarse hair to trap the moisture, it would not work for my baby fine hair. She said it would weigh it down, losing the curl, and make it look greasy.

She thought my every other day shampoo, but wet everyday was working out okay. I gel, air dry, and then fluff. On those rare days when wet hair is not appropriate, I blow dry it but only to remove the dripping water. It is still pretty wet when I stop blow drying.

I was thinking about this thread this afternoon and was going to come find it tonight. So, yesterday, I was in a big hurry and washed my hair and didn't do anything to it. I didn't put any product in it and today - I yi yi - it looked so bad! I couldn't remember what you other curly girls said you did. I was afraid to wet it, so I just put product in it and lots of scrunchy hairspray and lots of finger scrunching.

I was going to say to heck with it and put it in a messy bun, but I couldn't find one single elastic band. :cry:hehe

After almost 3 weeks, I love it. I use just suave NaturaL conditioner as a shampoo, a leave in Shea moisture conditioner and go. I have another Shea product to spritz for bad hair mornings. My hair is thicker and the curls thick and fun.
It is to the middle of my back.
But.. My mom hated it. Lol...she likes it short and curly. I want to be a grey curly long hair grandmomma. Lol. I wear in loose bun with escaping curls and my mom approved. Haha

Anne, can you get the Shea at the drugstore? I'm assuming so. I sure needed something today!! And keep it long. LOL

I got it at Wal-Mart. I am just home from vacation. But will take some pics and post tomorrow.
And I'm too lazy for short hair. Lol

Please do post pics. I'm too lazy for short hair, too. People think that's a crazy thing to say, but not for curly hair - I'd be fussing with short hair constantly.

@AnneofAlamo Okay, I thought I'd give this a try. I've not blown-dry my hair in 20-30 years. And it is either my grain-free eating or my bullet-proof tea, but I don't get split ends. A few years ago I decided to let my hair grow. I lop off about 6 inches (via you-tube videos) whenever it grows below my waist. I've got a definite natural wave to it, baby fine but tons of hair per square inch. Anyway, I did wash my hair with shampoo last week & used a conditioner I had picked up at the health food store (no "cone" ingredients). One of the links listed said to use shampoo one last time before you began co-washing. So Sunday was my day to co-wash. I ended up with a definite wave in the front, one I'm not used to seeing. But my scalp feels itchy and my hair seems to look darker??? I just wonder if I didn't wash the conditioner out enough? Does it take a bit for your scalp/hair to get used to this? I didn't use any gel, just let it air dry again. Surprisingly, my hair was able to be combed out. I was afraid that without the silicone-based conditioner, it would be one mass of knots & I'd have to shave it all off. Thank goodness that didn't happen. LOL. Suggestions?

From what I understand. Our hair has different porosity. And most of us curly girls hair has been damaged and dried out.
When I first started just conditioner for hair wash...it was gross. But now it is so soft and curly. I don't always use gel or leave in conditioner.
I have suffered with dandruff for years. Nothing works.
My hair is also darker. Weird.
I use as cold as possible to rinse conditioner out too.
My kids have been out of school, and we have been crazy busy. I will get photos up today of product.

I better try this. Any hints for hair loss. I am afraid I am going to be bold soon!
I've been using Nioxin hair care products for about 5 years now, and it has helped. It's expensive, but I now only use it once a week (I wash my hair 2x week). At the beginning I used it every time I washed so it could do its thing and clean out the follicles, so I use other products the other times. I've had a bit of hair regrowth, but it has helped with the loss. Most of my hair loss is genetic, so there's not much I can do about it!

My sister has been doing something like this for years on her stylist's recommendation. I'm not sure if it's this exact thing, but she does wash once a week. She loves the result.

My problem is that I've always had stick-straight hair, but now with my hair 1/2 grey it's starting to go frizzy. It's driving me nuts. I have no idea what to do with it other than a blowdry style, which lasts for 3 days. If I don't do that it looks absolutely horrible! Anyone deal with this and have any ideas?

totally unrelated...but we have a cat that steals our ponytails. the cat knows we put them on bathroom counters or on my nightstand, she picks them up in her mouth and runs off with them. So my poor daughter and I have to go looking all over the floor and under living room furniture to find them, lol!!

That's pretty funny. I don't have a cat to blame. haha I know I have some around here somewhere.
