Do you carry cash around with you? The other day, my daughter gave me cash for some things she threw in the cart when we were together at Costco. It made me realize that most of the time, I have no cash. Cashless like I have to use a debit card to pay for a $1 Coke at McDonald's. It always surprises me when a down-on-their-luck person asks me for money when I'm out in public... because I just don't carry it around. And then I wonder how many people really have $$ on them.

I know most of you are Paypal friendly. But do you keep cash available for your non-scrapping needs? Do you still write checks? Debit/credit? Cash card? Are you like me and feel like you score when you find cash tumbling around in the dryer or you find cash in a pocket of something you haven't worn in awhile? Or is that just me? :giggle

I use my debit card almost all the time. But I do need cash on hand at school when they sell lunches on tuesday. I do have a credit card but that's mostly when we go to different countries on vacation. You can't actually use it at our grocery stores or most other stores. That's one thing that's very different with the credit card economy in the US. And checks? No. I never ever have written checks in my life and I've never seen anyone else do/use it either. Do those seriously still exist?

I rarely have cash anymore, and when I do, it's mainly so I can dole it out to the kids for whatever reason. I used to keep a decent stash for cab fare, but now I just Uber wherever I need to go.

We rarely use our debit cards either. We've had issues recently with fraud attempts on our cards and I just feel better with that happening to a credit card vs. actual money coming out of our accounts.

We still occasionally write checks. Clara's dance teachers last year only took checks or direct pay. Now it's mainly just the cleaning lady and church.

I write cheques!! Not in shops though lol! I pay for my son's drama lessons by cheque each term and the gaps man has a cheque when he comes to do the annual service on the boiler.

I carry a bit of cash with me for odds and ends, but sometimes it stays in my purse for months!

I rarely carry cash, only if I know in advance I need it for something, like a carnival or fair. I write one check a month, because the cost of a stamp is much cheaper than the $3 processing fee to pay our cable bill online. I use my Paypal card for just about everything else.

Hardly ever... maybe a little bit when we head over to the boardwalk. As for checks, I write 1 month... to the school for before school care.

Lots of cash. And checks. Don't do debit cards at all. We need to pay for counselors, therapists, skating coaches. And I'm not about to put $1 on a credit card for parking at the rink, which is about 10x week. call me old fashioned, but I won't ever do debit.

I pull out cash for the sole purpose of paying for day care. Everything else is debit or credit, and I can seriously see the impact on my account. My bank actually charges fees if you do not meet the number of debit card transactions/month. (I was grandfathered past that requirement because I have had my account for 16 years)

I was just thinking about this as Bugga recently lost a tooth and the tooth fairy was unprepared with actual cash money. I rarely carry cash anymore! If I know about something in advance I may have some on hand, but I primarily use my debit card (which feels the same as cash to me.)

I write a check for cash nearly every week and make all my small purchases with cash. I don't write that many check either (my husband does all the household bills from his checking account). I got in the habit when I cleaned houses for two years (my clients always paid me in cash to save me from having to go to the bank).

I usually have some cash with me, mostly using it on lunch. I use my credit card for 90% of my everyday purchases. I write checks to the hairstylist and that's about it. My daughter rarely has any cash on her at all, just her debit card yet my son always has at least a little cash with him.

I take out cash lump sum every week for food etc. It helps me budget as otherwise I would spend more. My debit card makes it too easy ha! Never write checks any more though and PayPal is my best friend :thumbsups

I rarely have cash on me, maybe some change. I use my debit card for everything and a lot of my bills are automatically taken out of my account each month so I don't have to worry about them.

Don't really use cheques either however I do keep one in my wallet just in case.

I never have cash on me anymore. I have to stop at the ATM when it's soccer season so we can get snacks at the concession stand, but a lot times I just use it as an excuse not to buy stuff when I'm out and about... "sorry we can't have cookies because I don't have any cash" :) I use my credit card for almost everything because I like to be able to keep track of where I spent all my money and I get cash back for using it too. The only checks I write for all the little things at school and for their lunch accounts. I hate having to carry that darn thing around still. I wish we'd hurry up and get to the point where we could just transfer money to each other from our phones. Even for that garage sale find or whatever. :)

I live in one of the most cash free societies on earth, and true to form I never have cash. Even at flea markets I can pay with my phone. Pretty much everyone accepts phone payments now from big chain groceries to my best friend. I haven't even laid eyes on a check in years.

We write checks for school fees, field trips, etc. There is one bill that's a college prepaid plan that we also pay with check. They haven't come into the modern world, I guess. LOL Everything else is automatically paid each month.

We use our debit card for all purchases and use it like cash. I rarely have any cash on me.

Towards Christmas (like now **giggle**), I'll start putting a little cash nest egg for purchases, but even then, loads of our purchases are made online with a credit card. We don't use our debit card for online purchases . . . just a designated credit card that we can track purchases and payments easily.

Oh, and I know that I'm showing my age, but seriously? A cashless society? Doesn't it seem like science fiction come to life sometimes????

my husband loves to pay for things with cash - so we always have it around. i use it sometimes for paying the cleaning lady and the girls' private skating lessons - but i also use checks for that as well (depending on how much cash i have on hand). i also use checks to pay for yard work and garbage pick-up. everything else i put on my credit card, because i like to track my spending at the end of the month when i pay the bill. i feel like if i use cash it just disappears and i don't know where i spent the money!

I hardly ever have cash but do remember to take it out for the fair & carnivals, etc. I use my debit card for most things. We have to write checks for a few things - like lawn care & boy scout things. I am terrible about cash - if I have cash I spend it quick. I manage my spending better with a debit card. It is always interesting to me how everyone is different on what works for them!
