My last name...

I'm pretty proud of myself. I'm fairly new to this community and the only one I had wrong was Kaye's. Phew!

Okay ready for this? My name is Jewelle {pronounce it like Julie}. No my parents didn't spell it wrong, and there is definitely NOT two E's on the end. Some jerk of a secretary in Middle School refused to right my name correctly because it wasn't "correct English" and two E's made it correct.

My middle name is Dawn. You wouldn't believe how many people asked me in all seriousness why my parents named me after my dad. My dads name is Joe. :giggle

My maiden name is Rail {like the railroad}. Simple right?! Nope, almost always after saying that I got asked and how do you spell that?

So I get married and my last name is Jones. Finally something normal! Would you believe me if I told you that more often than not I get asked how to spell it? Seriously....isn't Jones right up there as one of the most common names there is?

For the most part I take it with a grain of salt. I only get upset when someone INSISTS that they know how to say my name {or spell it} better than I do!

you're excused from getting mine wrong as I would have gotten your's wrong for sure! I would have read that as Jewel or Jew-el. I have never come across a 'Julie' spelt that way

We pronounce it winnie-key, not winnie-ecki

Kaye, now I'll never remember how to spell your name! LOL! I have always thought it was win-ecki! LOL!

Karah, you've always been Karah to me, but I think I may have misspelled your last name once or twice in the beginning.

Jacque...Jack...................that's the best one! :giggle I think I've known you for the longest and I've never thought it was Jack. Now I do though! :beat

As for ME...my name is KEY-la. I've been called KEL-LA more than once in my life. :hissy People also ask me a bazillion times to spell it and they usually spell it KeLLa. LOL! This week my own son spelled it that way on a project for school! I totally got on him. :dizzy (Just kidding!)

Oh and I say BAR-ret so, I have always 'thought' Jenn's name wrong. :(

I am loving this thread! I've seen most of you around the digi community (and here at TLP of course) and I'm happy I had most of the names right. Except Kaye's.

I've just gotten used to people butchering my last name. It's Dombkowski (dum-cow-ski) and I get Dom-brow-ski all the time. My maiden name was Wasnewsky (waz-new-ski) and that was messed up more ways than I could count. I always swore that I'd marry a Smith or a Brown....but nope.

When I was in school every time we had a sub or I started a new class I got called Bryan. Even today people will call the house and ask for Bryan and I am like It's Brynn...then I get oh is he home? and I'm like uh Brynn is a woman and I am Brynn...or at the Doctors office, if it's a new Nurse or one I haven't met they always call for Mr. Dukes or Bryan Dukes.

Brynn, I have a Brynn too! She's 11. . . . and I'm hoping she doesn't get Bryan very often! She loves her name and we do too! I get Tawna or Tanya A LOT! It's Tana (like Mon-tana!)

totally with you on this! our daughter's name is meagan - pronounced meg-an. simple. just we liked the meaning of the meagan spelling the most of all the megan/meghan/meagan/meggan possibilities :giggle. her name (spelled like that) means strength. so we went with that.

however. i have had people INSIST it should be pronounced mee-gan. yes, i suppose if it were of english derivation, maybe that would be correct. it's not. now let me slap you upside the head with a rolling pin :rollingpin for telling me how to pronounce MY daughter's name. thank you.

:carryon

This is so funny. Sometimes I can't believe the nerve of people!:giggle

Rebecca, mine isn't a name thing, but I am forever having people ask me if the boys are identical--which leads into a long discussion about how we don't really know because they were in two sacs, two placentas, so you have to have DNA testing to know for sure and how we just never felt like spending the $200-300 to do it. To which, I have had many EMPHATICALLY reply that they are indeed identical 'because the look just alike'---well, thanks for that, I never noticed! LOL :shrug

I am cracking up!

Karah, I used to credit you as Karah Fredericks YEARS ago. I swear i thought I saw it spelled that way. Probably on someone else's wrong credits. :lol3 Anyway, someone called me out once! LOL They weren't nasty or anything but more like 'Who is Karah Fredericks?" all smart-a** like. :giggle Haven't made that mistake since!

And I know your name is Karah (care-uh) but don't forget I'm from New York so we have our own way of saying things to begin with. :lol A NYer would never pronounce it care-uh. It's cah-rah. LOL! Do you like how I just told you that you were wrong with your own name? :lmao

Kaye's last name I always pronounce "Win-ecki". Oops!

And while I *know* Jacque is Jackie I can't help it... I always call you "Jack" in my head. Sorry about that! LOL!! :)

I don't think anyone needs help with my name. ;) Can't really mess up Miller now can you. And I don't think NYers have a different way of saying Gina. It's just "Gee-na". My maiden name would probably throw a few off though. It's Gabbola. Many people used to pronounce it "Gah-bah-la". :nope It's "Guh-bowl-la!"

ya rachel, what's up with that? you need to add some excitement to your life girl! go with witwicki or something like that.

becky!! i thought of you in the store the other day. we were in target and there were 2 little girls standing together with their backs to me. one turned around and then the other, and they looked SOOO much alike, but not quite identical. plus one was slightly taller than the other. my first mental question was 'are they twins?' but i REFUSED to ask their poor mother, who must be forced to answer that question about a thousand times a day. I figured the yes or no answer would really have zero impact on my life either way, so i let it go.

this thread is so funny! i was OK with karah and jacque - but completely mispronounced kaye and jenn's last names!

i don't *THINK* anyone questions my names .. but if so - it's dana like day-na, no dan-a ...
