My last name...

When I was in school every time we had a sub or I started a new class I got called Bryan. Even today people will call the house and ask for Bryan and I am like It's Brynn...then I get oh is he home? and I'm like uh Brynn is a woman and I am Brynn...or at the Doctors office, if it's a new Nurse or one I haven't met they always call for Mr. Dukes or Bryan Dukes.

And if that isn't special enough my maiden name is Zirkle...and when I was little Steve Urkel on Family Matters was popular...so I got called Bryan Urkel for like 3 years.

As for hard names, I don't even bother saying mine anymore. If I'm on the phone, I just spell it - first and last. People mess them both up 98% of the time. They are also always shocked when I show up and am not Asian. LOL

This thread has made me laugh.my maiden name was Short and in school I wasnt very tall so used to get teased so was looking forward to the day that I married so I could get rid of it,so now just stuck with the common name perry but least everyone can say it lol.

estir that's what I thought your name was lol

I think I pretty much screwed my kids over. LOL... I spell my oldest DS's name JoHnathan (everyone wants to write it w/o the H) and my youngest DS's name Kaleb (instead of a C)....

however, no matter how I spell their names when we go to the doctors office, 9 times out of 10 they both get called Jacob. We all just look at each other and laugh.

I hear ya...I grew up with an unpronounceable last name unless you knew German (only 4 letters though..but almost everyone messed it up) and the h get's dropped from my first name all the time.

In fact my cousin...on facebook...when my name is right there in front of him...spells my name Sara...DH told me the next time he does that I should type his name as Jerem and say something about how as long as we're not using the last letters of names...lol.

Tiki - what is your last name? As for your first, I always think you must be Polynesian with such an exotic first name!

Kaye - I'm totally guilty about mispronouncing your name - Win-nie-eck-i is how I "say" it, but I'll have to retrain myself!

And Jack (I mean Jacque!), my niece's best friend is name Jaq (pronounced Jack), so I'm going to have a tough time retraining for yours!

Thanks for sharing. hehe

Well just so I don't feel left out, my first name is pronounced LEE-AHH, not Lee.

There I feel better.

BAHAHA! so funny! And Kate - you're British, so you TOTALLY can call me car-uh. Just goes along with the accent! HAHAHA

Hurrah!!! I'll even do it in a really posh British accent from now on for you :)

So then silly here goes and marries a Winiecki!! What was I thinking??!! We get so many variations on that, it's crazy. We pronounce it winnie-key, not winnie-ecki

Oh no, another one I have been getting wrong all these years! You were always a Winnie-Ecki to me.

At least I knew that Jacque was 'Jackie' and a woman - I can't believe you admitted to that one Laura! :giggle

HaHaHa! I usually swing both ways with your last name in my credits!! Change it to Smith! :rofl

*snort* Karah Smith. Just doesn't have the same ring. HAHAHA

Kate, I've been pronouncing Kaye's last name the same as you!

Oh my goodness, this thread makes me laugh.

I "may" have been guilty of misspelling it a time or two, but you have always been care-uh to me :)

Jacque has always been Jackie

and Kaye has always been Winnie-ecki, so I am going to have to fix that one in my head too.

My maiden name was Hale which I always had to spell and everyone would make jokes about it being hell instead of Hale. Then, when I got married and it became Derby, it seems easier, but I still have to spell it or it become Darby.

My biggest name issue is that people just randomly call me Debbie. I was speaking at a convention one time and the lady that introduced me was going on and on about my background and stuff and called me Debbie like 15 times, it honestly didn't bother me because I frequently get called that for some reason, but it was hilarious seeing everyone out in the audience be mortified for the poor lady.

Well, I went to check & I am totally a guilty one for adding in the extra "e" in your last name. I will add it in correctly from this point forward but I think since I might actually have a few minutes on the computer I am going to go try & scrap something instead of changing it in my current credits. I am SO sorry! I have no excuse!

Bet they would like my Wolverhampton accent more lol,bet they wouldn't understand me it's awful,go google it

Oh and as for being called something different there's this chap at work calls me Rachel and has done for 5 years even tho I'm wearing a big name badge and one day he called me Kerry and I thought oh it's getting closer and he said oh I got your name wrong RACHEL

LOL Karen (I mean Kerry, I mean Rachel), that is so funny!

Ok...I think I always say and spell karah's name correctly.

I had a friend Jacque in school who spelled hers the same way (which is really the best and only way it should be spelled) so I got that one correct too.

Kaye...your's is harder. I'm not sure how I would've said it, but I think I would've said it phonetically, because in order to spell it correctly in the credits, I do that.

I do agree that any british (or aussie) gals should say car-uh. It would be weird for them to say it care-uh!!

and I'm Debra. NOT Debbie. I don't have too many problems with people getting it right online, but I can meet someone and tell them my name, and in two seconds they are calling me Debbie. I was car shopping a few years ago and went into the Infinity dealership up on Riverside. I told the guy my name and then he called me Debbie. I corrected him and he did it again. I spelled it out on a card and told him if he called me Debbie again, I was walking out. He did it again...and out I went!! I'm usually not that much of a butt about it, but if you are in sales and especially something as big as a car, and you want a commission, you'd better get it right!

I am aunt Debbie to my nieces and nephews though. They are the only ones allowed to call me that!
