My last name...

I realized that I should have chimed in on my own last name long before now.

McCandless - that would be Mc-Cand-less not Mc-CANDLES. So, yeah, no candles here.
I've had to coach my kids to respond to anything close because teachers never get it right on the first try.

Laura, I had a friend in Jr. High with the same last name so I've had it right all this time ;)

This thread is such a crack up! But, I am proud to say I had ALL the names right except for Kaye's.

I am happy to have an easy name...Kelly Schmidt. My maiden name was Tweedle. As in Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. Try growing up with that :-/

kelley i bet you had some stick for that last name lol,my Short was bad enough especially as i wasn't very tall then

however. i have had people INSIST it should be pronounced mee-gan. yes, i suppose if it were of english derivation, maybe that would be correct. it's not. now let me slap you upside the head with a rolling pin :rollingpin for telling me how to pronounce MY daughter's name. thank you.

That's Meg-an to me and I'm of English derivation! :lol

Laura, I have been saying your last name right. Yay! :lol

I don't think anyone needs help with my name. ;) Can't really mess up Miller now can you. And I don't think NYers have a different way of saying Gina. It's just "Gee-na".

You mean it's not a hard-G?:giggle

This thread is SO funny!! HAHA!! I love it.
Well I am proud to know that I have been pronouncing all of your names right. YAY!!
But yes, I've always wondered how they were pronounced.

I get people that pronounce my name wrong all the time...
and I get it... but, URG, it does bug me so Maybe because I married into the name. I don't know.
People pronounce it (SAY-LEEN, or SAH-LYNN) but no.....
it's pronounced: Sah-leeen like Celine Dion.

Oops Krista - I'm guilty of SAH-LYNN. But I think I can switch to SAH-LEEN easily enough. It's such a pretty name!

i think i was in a krista camp all my own. i was pronouncing it say-lynn. so kind of a combo of the 2 wrongs. :giggle

sah-leen it is! from now on! promise.

I have to admit that I did pronounce some of them wrong. Jacque, Karah, Laura, and Gina I had right but Krista's surname I always pronounced wrong...SAY-LEEN like saline. But I am glad to know the correct way to pronounce it now. I also had been pronouncing Kaye's surname as WINE-ICK-EE so now I know it is not. I see how aggravated it can be...My name is Valorie pronounced VAL-OR-EE not VAL-ERIE. My nickname growing up was Lori if that helps. It always aggravated me when people would get lazy and just call me Val. NO...it is VAL-OR-EE ca'mon say it with me!! LOL! I don't like the name Val but it doesn't bother me anymore. I just love people and you can call me whatev as long as it is nice. LOL!.

I've definitely had a few of these wrong, for years like ( but not you Karah!!)

My name's so easy but it still gets screwed up. I get called Kelly & Killy a lot. You'd be amazed at some of the spellings I've seen. I pretty much answer to anything in my old age.

Oh gosh... now you got me wondering if I mis-spelt your name in credits... must go check. :-)

I'm so used to seeing my first name spelled wrong that I try not to be upset. What the heck, they even got it wrong on my SSN! :rollingpin But it does get to me, especially when it's done by people whom I've been seeing online with me for a long time! This is why I try to pay extra attention to spelling other people's names.
