I took my daughters to the eye doctor this week for their annual exams, so let’s chat about eyes today.

Do you have your eyes checked regularly?

Do you wear glasses or contacts?

How old were you when you started wearing them?

Do you have your eyes checked regularly?
I haven’t in the past but I started going last year and plan to go annually now.

Do you wear glasses or contacts?
I wear non-prescription glasses when I’m on my laptop for awhile (when I remember…). I also wear sunglasses any time I’m outside. I’ve never had a prescription for glasses though.

How old were you when you started wearing them?
I started wearing sunglasses when I was a lifeguard at age 16. I started wearing glasses when I scrap a few years ago.

Do you have your eyes checked regularly? I haven't been since the whole pandemic thing.

Do you wear glasses or contacts? I have glasses for distance - to drive with or watch tv.

How old were you when you started wearing them? Ten years ago.

I do have regular eye appointments. I wear glasses, starting when I was 18.

Do you have your eyes checked regularly? Yes. Supposed to go every year but the pandemic threw that off. I at least go every 2 years.

Do you wear glasses or contacts? Yes, glasses.

How old were you when you started wearing them? First time... 2.5 years old. I was cross eyed and wore glasses until I was 5. My vision was normal at that point so I didn't need them anymore. At 19 I needed them for distance driving and studying. College did a number on them! By the time I was in my late 30's/early 40's I was wearing them all of the time. I am now in bifocals and have the start of cataracts which is why I need my eyes checked yearly. My last visit had very little change from the pre-pandemic visit so I chose not to go at the 1 year time. Probably should get that appointment now though. My cataracts have not progressed to the point of needing surgery. I've had them for over 5 years. My eye doctor said as long as a prescription gets me to 20/20 they won't do surgery.

I can see without my glasses. I just can't read any chyrons on a tv screen or a book or anything on the computer.

Do you have your eyes checked regularly?
Every couple of years.

Do you wear glasses or contacts?
Glasses. When I was younger wore contacts but they always dried my eyes out so gave up after about 3 yrs.

How old were you when you started wearing them?
30ish

Do you have your eyes checked regularly?
From 21 - 65 just a few times. Now that I'm on Medicare I go regularly. In fact, I saw my optometrist yesterday b/c I had a large "floater" that was "stuck" in front of my eye. Of course, once I made the appointment it moved to the side. Still the doctor closely examined both of my eyes for any tears or other issues and did a computerized scan of both eyes. No issues, other than my normal floaters.

I had cataract surgery last spring.

Do you wear glasses or contacts? Prescription glasses as I'm myopic (near/short-sighted)

How old were you when you started wearing them? 10 years old

I use to wear glasses growing up. I had crossing in my eyes that I had corrected in high school. That I couldn't see things far away very well. Oddly enough with each child my eye sight got better and better and I no longer needed glasses. I haven't had any issues in years and haven't had my eyes checked. I do get a lot of nasty stys in my eyes though and have been seen on and off for those.

I should have a eye check just cause sometime in the near future as I am getting older.. so maybe I will plan one

Not really... when do you start? Just regular checks when I occasionally go to the doctor. I pry should start, only to stay ahead of any problems, right?

Do you wear glasses or contacts?

No. Though I'm guessing in the next couple years I will need readers or something, based on family history. I think my phone is still set on the smallest font, but I will enlarge it... only cause how much i read on my phone. Make it easier rather then stress them out, I guess. lol! I really have no idea!

I think I was about 10 when I got my first pair of glasses. I'm short sighted. I tried contacts for a few weeks but didn't get on with them.

The pandemic definitely threw off a lot of my regular appointments.

I wore glasses for a few years as a kid, then didn't need them anymore. I didn't wear "cheaters" until just a few years ago. Now, I have prescription glasses for close-up (my eyes are not the same) and distance. Yes, I have to go to the eye doctor regularly. I had implants a few years ago and have to go in and have them checked regularly.

Do you have your eyes checked regularly? Nope. I had them checked when I was a kid and remember being told I had 20/20 in one eye and even better than that in the other eye. And I never had any eye issues until just a few years ago when reading books began to tire my eyes.

Do you wear glasses or contacts? So now I have glasses I use just for reading books.

How old were you when you started wearing them? I started wearing them last January, just a couple months after my 50th birthday.

My long distance vision has also decreased, but it's not an issue. I just have to be closer to street signs before I can see them sharply. I still see them just fine in time for driving.

I have my eyes checked about once a year. Just went a couple of weeks ago. This actually reminded me that my new glasses are in and I need to go pick them up.

I wear glasses currently. I have progressives for general wear, and a single-vision pair for computer use. I usually take my glasses off when I'm using my phone. I've always been very nearsighted and started wearing glasses at about age 5. When I was about 7, they started me on a program with hard contact lenses that was supposed to correct my vision as I grew. It didn't really do much and I got a lot of corneal abrasions. I wore contacts most of the time up until about age 30. Once I had kids, it just got to be too much of a hassle to bother with.

My eyes lately get a little "better" each year as the aging tendency for far-sightedness offsets a bit of my nearsightedness. I mainly notice it as the overcorrected prescription makes it harder to read highway signs. I doubt it will ever get to the point that I don't need glasses though, so I just keep having to fork over the money for new glasses as needed. :)

I should have my eyes tested every 2 years, they recommend every year for me but as every time I step into the optometrist I end up with new glasses to the tune of $400-500 I’m well overdue.

I wear glasses for everything as I have very limited useful sight in my left eye and can’t see too far with the right.

I think I may have been around 2 years old when I got my first pair of glasses

I do suspect I need some readers but so far I'm okay.

Our piano teacher suggested that I have my daughter's eyes checked as she leans in so close to read the music...what's weird is that I do all of her schooling at home and haven't noticed her doing this. I'm wondering what the difference could be. I actually did take her to get checked a few years ago as she was having headaches and I thought it might have something to do with her eyes. But they were fine. I might go again just to double check. So far, out of 7 kids, no one needs glasses!

Do I check my eyes regularly - yep, absolutely. I drag my husband with me every year and my son every six months. Husband wears glasses full time and son wears them for all written/computer work.

Do I wear glasses - um, it’s complicated. I’ve had them for twenty years but for most of that time they were intended to loosen my vision. I could see properly but focused so tightly it gave me headaches. More recently I have seperate glasses for computer and reading/close craft work but I don’t wear them as much as I should.

The real surprise for me was discovering my then-four year old needed them. Apparently kids with his problem often turn their eyes in when tired but he’s never had any symptoms. It turns out that he was using seven times the effort of kids the same age to focus. The glasses have made a world of difference to his reading and writing and I am SO glad my mum (an ex-teacher) suggested I take him before he started school just in case. She wasn’t expecting the need for glasses either!

I think little kids are so cute in glasses and I’m sure you were too!
I’m sorry college was so hard on your eyes. I think lifeguarding was the hardest on mine.

We're looking into contacts for my daughter so I appreciate the heads up that they can dry out eyes sometimes.
