Why do I scrapbook? So many reasons. I started back in college when I made photo albums with words cut from newspapers. Then nothing until 1999 when we got back from a trip to Disney with the boys and I wanted them to have scrapbooks of the trip. Via a friend I found a Creative Memories consultant who hooked me on the albums and stickers. When CM came out with digital scrapping, I slowly jumped in. Through
multiple bankruptcy, company buy-outs, and software management issues, I stuck to my software. When the company drama become personal, I switched to Photoshop Elements and a year later to Photoshop CC. It is so nice to scrap with software that doesn't care how I use it!
So back to why: To preserve memories of our lives here on this earth. To relive the good and bad parts of life. To resolve disagreements in our memories. To refresh our memories. To tell our stories for those who come after, who wonder who we are and why we did the things we did.
2020 has been a trying year. I haven't wanted to take pictures much, let alone scrap them. I did not want to remember the disappointments, the hurt, the darkness of Covid. Instead I found myself going back to the old, traditional stickers and paper and tape, using those to illustrate my feelings and thoughts on life and on scripture. It was healing. It brought me back to why I scrap.
I look forward to 2021 and yes, I will do digital scrapping again, but I will also continue the hand stamping, fussy cutting, sticker printing, and taping of messy art journalling & story telling. I might even work on my hand lettering skills, which are in much need of improvement.
And yes, I will pick up my camera again and find joy in taking photos of a life I wish to remember. For this year I learned my hope lies only in my Lord and Savior, that by the Holy Spirit my life will overflow with hope, and from that hope will spring joy and peace. So yes, there will be pictures of this life to remember...and scrapping.
