========================================== (Large photo is of my Mom from when she was around 19. It was a b/w photo and I used Nueral Filter in PSCC to colorize it here.. the 2 other photos are of my on my retirement day 8/31/2012. The font I am using is the same font of my mother’s typewriter. When I see it I think of her.)
Journaling:
“I know I have talked about this before but it is something that I keep going back to. My mother was a beautiful woman. Unfortunately she passed away, way too young at the age of 54, on January 25, 1990. As we are approaching the 33rd anniversary of her passing, I still look back upon that time. She did so much in her short life. She gave of herself to others. She was a wonderful daughter, wife and mother. In her spare time, (during the 1970’s through her death) she was very involved with the Audubon Society - both the local and National chapters. Because of her passing at the age of 54, I had said I wanted to retire at the age of 50, as I did not want to work up until it was my time, not knowing if my life would be short as well. At the age of 45 I had melanoma, and while caught early, it was something for me that once again “rang the bell” on sticking to my goal of retiring at 50. Thank goodness we worked hard to accomplish that goal. I worked up until the week before my 51st birthday, retiring on Aug. 31, 2012. This past August marked 10 years of being retired. I am so thankful that I was able to retire when I did. I was able to be there with my Dad while he was ill before his passing, without having to worry about taking time off from work. We were able to take several trips and enjoy our time of doing things that we want to do, when we want to. Then of course in 2020 when the pandemic of COVID hit, I did not have to worry about working from home and/or going places where I may be vulnerable to the virus. We changed some of the things we did to avoid large groups. Thankfully 2 years later we are still doing well. Things have changed so much over the years. I have learned to live each day to the fullest. Tomorrow is not promised. Every moment is precious, so do not put off your dreams. This is the very valuable lesson I learned, seeing things first hand. I am very grateful that I have had this time for the last 10 years. I am looking forward to many many more years in the future!”
This such an evocative page and is beautiful from the journaling, photos, design and embellishing. It's good to read that you have found ways to live positively throughout the pain, emotional and physical, that you have endured.
Beautiful photo, she was gorgeous. And well done you for sticking to your goals. I am sorry you had the Melanoma scare to give you that extra determination, but so glad you managed fulfilling your dream, and also to help and look after your dad when he needed you.
Beautiful page.
