December Challenges

Hello everyone! It’s Polly Karen back again to give you a quick overview of all the new challenges for December. Each month we have 8 brand new challenges that are posted in the forum Challenge Pad on the 1st day of the month. (the BYOC Challenge is posted on the 1st Friday of the month.) You can use the challenges simply to inspire you to keep creating new layouts OR you can also earn yourself a fabulous coupon for your next shopping trip in the Lilypad Store. (2 challenges = 10%, 4 challenges = 20% and 6 challenges = 30%). Those who complete at least 7 challenges will be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift certificate! Isn’t that an awesome prize?!?! You’ll get lots of great memories captured in your scrapbooks AND you could win a fat gift certificate prize!!! Pretty great, right?! So let’s take a look at this month’s new batch of challenges!
1. Journaling Challenge – The first challenge of the month is the Journaling Challenge hosted by Ashley (ashleywb). Ashley has a fun challenge to add a little extra interest to your journaling by starting with a drop cap. This is using the first letter as much larger as the rest and then having the next few lines of journaling nestle up to that large first letter. Here’s a great sample layout Ashley created (and there are a bunch of other examples in the forum thread):

2. Scraplift Challenge – The next challenge for this month is the Scraplift Challenge and I (Polly Karen) get to host this challenge. I chose one of my long time scrapping crushes, Roxana and the artist to scraplift this month. Simply pick one layout from the Roxana’s Gallery and then create your own scraplifted version. Here is a layout that I picked from Roxana’s gallery followed by my scraplifted version:
3. Style Challenge – The next challenge for December is the Style Challenge. This month’s style challenge is hosted by Stefanie (Eyeore) and she is challenging you to use a BIG photo on your layout. One photo must cover at least 50% of your layout. Here’s a gorgeous sample page made by Stefanie:
4. Photography Challenge – The Photography Challenge for this month is hosted by Lori (lcpereyra) and she is challenging you to capture things that are currently in your life. Lori created a long list of ideas for “currently prompts” of thing you could photograph about your life right now and wants you to pick at least 6 items to photograph from that list and create a layout to capture them. Here’s a great sample layout that Lori created about things currently going on in her life:

5. Template Challenge – Next up is the Template Challenge hosted by Courtney (bestcee). The challenge is to use the free template supplied by Allison Pennington and create a layout using it. Here’s a look at the free template followed by a sample that Courtney created using it:
6. Inspiration Challenge – The Inspiration Challenge for this month, hosted by Jen (JenEm), is to select a Christmas or Holiday song or movie and use the title or some of the lyrics as inspiration for your page. Jen chose one of her favorite holiday songs, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” and use it as the title for her layout:
7. Random Challenge – Natasha (bcnatty) is hosting this month’s Random Challenge and she would like you to create a layout about your Christmas wishlist or a favorite Christmas present you’ve given or received. If you don’t celebrate Christmas, any favorite present or gift you’ve given or received will work too. Here’s a sample layout that Natasha created:
8. BYOC Challenge – Finally we have the BYOC Challenge. This challenge will be hosted and posted by Heather (HeatherB) on Friday, December 3rd when the BYOC Collection for December will be released in the store. The challenge will be to use 90% of the products on your page from this month’s BYOC collection and from at least 3 designers.
Challenge Galleries: (post your pages to these galleries)
There is your peek at this month’s brand new batch of challenges. Once you create your own layouts inspired by these challenges, be sure to post them to the appropriate galleries as listed above. Then be sure to also post them to the appropriate thread in the challenge forum. See the thread HERE for further challenge guidelines and see the December Challenge Pad HERE to get started! Don’t forget to post all of your completed layouts in the Challenge Layouts thread so we can be sure to get you the proper coupon at the end of the month. I’ll be back near the end of the month to shine my spotlight on some of the pages created for these challenges! I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Happy scrapping!
