It's no secret that The Lilypad has some of the best designers around! Not only are they crazy talented, but they're fun and sweet and kind and amazing individuals as well! It's always fun to take a minute to get to know the person behind the incredible designs that we see and use every day. Today, let's take a few minutes to get to know Emily Merritt. Here's what Emily has to say...**********Hey! I'm Emily and I live in small town Idaho...where there are more cows than people. My husband works as a graphic designer at a dairy magazine...so with both of us being artists we love to bounce ideas off each other. We have three beautiful children...ages 6 1/2, 4 1/2 and 2. They definitely keep me busy...but they are the light in my life for sure!I love to scrapbook and design, of course...but taking pictures of people is my other business. I also love to cook, sew, build things with … [Read more...]

So I'm going to keep this short and sweet... you really just want to see the fab font find I have for you anyway, right?!The fonts I'm sharing with you today comes from The Font Diner. Snappin’ Sundays: Using a Reflector
Do you use a reflector? Ever heard of a reflector? I hadn't either until I took a photography class last year, and now using a reflector is one of my favorite tricks. When you're shooting in low light situations such as dark shade or with the sun to the subject's back, a reflector is simply a white screen that helps reflect light onto your subject. I own a reflector similar to this one, but there are lots of different options. You could even use something as simple as white poster board if you don't want to purchase an actual reflector. So how to use a reflector? I set up my shot in the shade, approximately 6:15 in the evening with the sun to our backs. I asked my son to stand beside me and hold the reflector so that it took the sun from behind my daughter and placed the light on her face. And here's what a difference it makes. The settings are exactly the same for both shots, but the … [Read more...]

Loading Files into Layers in Photoshop
When I first started scrapping way back in 2008 I used Photoshop Elements - version 5 I think. What I really liked was that I could open all sorts of files and pull them all into my layout at once as separate layers and the individual files would retain their original file name rather than convert to "Layer 1" etc. After scrapping for a couple years with Photoshop Elements I decided I wanted to upgrade to Photoshop CS4. I remember being excited to do my first layout in my new program. I opened all sorts of files from a kit and realized I needed to drag every file on to my layout one by one. What a pain! I also realized that when I did drag my files on to my layout, the file name changed to "Layer 1", "Layer 2" etc. I was not happy. Right when I was thinking of uninstalling my new program and going back to Photoshop Elements, I did an internet search for loading files into layers … [Read more...]
