Map Home Decor
Polly Shannon here to share with you one of my favorite DIY home decor pieces. I get compliments on this from everyone who comes to my house. And it's super easy! First, lets start with the finished product.I printed out reference maps of each state that we have lived in. They're easy to find if you do a google search of "(enter state name here) reference map". Then simply save it and print it. You'll have to trim it into the shape of the state (I found fine-tip scissors and my xacto knife to be a lifesaver). Once I had mine cut out I chose to indicate the cities that we've lived in my stamping on them with a heart-shaped rubber stamp.Your next step is to mount them. The options are endless really. You could do floating frames. Or one large frame. Or you could back it with a solid color paper. Or you could decide that you are not spending money on another frame and take the … [Read more...]
Using Feedly To Read Your Favorite Blogs
As you may have heard by now, Google has announced that it will discontinue Google Reader on July 1st. This news has reverberated throughout the internet and people are scrambling to find another RSS reader service to replace Google Reader. I have personally tried out three services: Feedly, Bloglovin, and The Old Reader, and my personal favorite is Feedly by far. So let’s take a look at using Feedly to read your favorite blogs (which I hope includes The Lilypad blog!).Feedly has web-extensions for Firefox, Chrome, and Safari web browsers. It also has a free app for iOS and Android devices. I first used the Feedly app on my iPad and LOVED the interface for reading blogs. You can choose between many different views and the way the photos and text are presented is simple yet gorgeous. This is my blog on my iPad, using Feedly app to read it.It … [Read more...]

Handmade Cards
Hey all! Polly Shannon here. I don't know about you but I love the look of handmade cards. It adds a little something extra when you're giving it to someone - like a gift in and of itself. But I always run into one problem when I am making a card with traditional paper supplies....my card is too bulky to mail. I really like my cards to have a little dimension so I had to find a way to make the card mail-friendly and still have the appearance of being able to reach out and touch it.This card is completely flat, ready to pop in an envelope and into the mail without worry about extra postage. The better part? It's so easy to make! In Photoshop I created a canvas that was 4.5" x 6". My card is 5" x 6.5" and I wanted a quarter inch border all the way around. Then I used How It Began papers & elements by One Little Bird to design the card. I was free to add any kid of elements I … [Read more...]
