Behind the Design of Just Jaimee

Hi all!  Polly Jewelle here with another edition of Behind the Design. It has been awhile since our last Behind the Design blog post. Our designers have been super busy producing awesome products for you. Finally with a little bit of pleading and maybe a few bribes another of the designers here at The LilyPad agreed to show off her design spaces at home.  She also agreed to answer a few questions about her design space that will allow us to get to know her better.  This month we are going behind the designs of

Jaimee

aka

Just Jaimee

Mac or PC?
I used to be an exclusive PC user and since September 2014 I’ve been a Mac user. I have to say I have NO idea why I didn’t make the switch earlier. I love my Mac and I will never go back!

Coffee or tea (or both/neither)?
I am a coffee drinker!! I do drink decaf (organic freetrade) but coffee nonetheless. I love the taste of coffee. Tea is not really my thing although I give it a try now and than and can’t develop a taste for it.

Guilty pleasure snack while creating/scrapping?
My guilty pleasure snack while creating is jelly belly jelly beans. I love working away and popping a jelly bean in my mouth and getting a new flavor every time 🙂

Favorite music to listen to?
This changes depending on my mood. I am a die hard fan of Dallas Green (City and Colour) but I also love mixing my playlists to play songs from the grunge era of the 90s such as Alice in Chains, Jane’s Addiction, Stone Temple Pilots, Radio Head, Nine Inch Nails. I also love some good 80s such as Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears and older stuff like Pink Floyd. I also like upbeat stuff, dubstep and good music from my College days like Foo Fighters, The Muse, The Bravery, Hinder, Billy Talent, System of a Down, Fall Out Boy, The Killers, Finger Eleven and so on.   Just depends on my mood 🙂

Your view from your scrap space?
My  desk actually faces the wall, but behind me I have a balcony with a wall full of windows which look out to the mountains of the black forest. Here is a view of both.

What software do you use to create with?
I use the Adobe Creative Cloud and use Photoshop and Illustrator mainly.

Favorite photo editing tools?
I use Lightroom to edit my photos. It’s my preferred program although I have plugins for photoshop such as Rad Lab and have never really liked them as much as Lightroom.

Favorite thing/things about your workspace?
I am a ribbon collector – I love organizing my ribbons this way because I can see them easily when I need to grab one!

I am a washi tape hoarder. My Washi turntable that was handmade was full at one time until my 6 year old started sneaking them away and making tape art along with her drawings. I can’t scold her though, I love that she is so creative searching for textures to add to her pieces of art 🙂

My small yet colorful painting center. I have a folding wall table to do my mixed media art. I suits me fine as I don’t often need a lot of space and Most everything I need is in the shelves on the wall or on my main shelf of my office. I love bright happy colors and my wall of color is a daily inspiration for me to get my juices flowing!

My favorite media are my Caran D’ache water soluble crayons. The pigment these crayons produce is so rich and full – I LOVE using these when painting!

My go to products – gesso! I really have come to love the Bob Ross Brand. I use this religiously and when I can afford it, I also love the creamy texture of Faber + Castell Gesso. I also enjoy using the Heavy Gesso made by Prima Marketing. You’ll see Gesso frequently in my digital designs because I love how layouts pop using white backgrounds (without being too boring)! Besides Gesso, I also enjoy using molding paste.

Inspiration is so important to me and so are scrappy trends. I like to keep my designs new and fresh and I LOVE the entreARTistes Magazine which comes out of France so it is French 🙂 But the inspiration in there is to drool over. I have EVERY SINGLE ISSUE. Unfortunately, they published their last issue this past August so I’m super sad about that.

Wow!  Isn’t Jaimee’s space amazing!  I love seeing all the different aspects of her space that inspire her, from the washi, to the gesso to the magazines.  Also, does it surprise you that there are pops of color all throughout her space?! I love how even her sprays and washi lend to “decorating” her space! How about you?  What did you enjoy learning about Jaimee and her design space?  Be sure and let us know in the comments!
