Behind the Design of Sahlin Studio

Hi all!  Polly Jewelle here with another edition of Behind the Design. It has been awhile since our last Behind the Design blog post. Our designers have been super busy producint awesome products for you. Finally with a little bit of pleading and maybe a few bribes some more of the designers here at The LilyPad agreed to show off their design spaces at home.  They also agreed to answer a few questions about their design space that will allow us to get to know them better.  This month we are going behind the designs of

Mac or PC?

PC: I have a (DELL)18GB RAM  OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bi.

Coffee or tea (or both/neither)?

Is it weird that I like all of the above?  I must have my coffee in the morning (and throughout the day).  At night, I like to drink tea during our veg/TV time.  (And, my splurge is a homemade hot chocolate.  OK, the recipe is from Alton Brown off the Food Network, but I LOVE this stuff.  I would drink this exclusively if I could.  )

Guilty pleasure snack while creating/scrapping?

I don’t eat or snack at all when I’m designing…. in fact, I often forget to eat all together.   (I use pop up alarms on my computer to try and remind me that I need to eat.  HAHA!!)

Favorite music to listen to?

My “worktime” music is rather boring.  I listen to more soothing music to try and stay on task.  So classical music or songs from the shows Glee or Nashville.  When I work on Project Mouse products, you can almost exclusively find Disney tunes playing.

Your view from your scrap space?

My office looks out into both my front & backyard.  I love to look outside throughout the day to re-energize.  Also, I think my office location is in one of the best spots of the house  (it’s connected to both the kitchen, and my kids ‘playroom’) so even when I’m working it still feels like I’m with the family.

What software do you use to create with?

Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CC

Favorite photo editing tools?

Lightroom CC & Radlab

Favorite time to create (morning or evening)?

Morning. Definitely.  While I am a night owl, I find my BEST time to create is morning.  I’m always brimming with ideas from the night before, and refreshed to create.  When I work late into the night my brain is always more zapped, and creating something seems to take longer.

Favorite thing about your workspace?

I LOVE my office, so this is hard.  We remodeled last year, and since then everything is my favorite.  But if I had to chose it would be the natural light.  I love how light and bright it is in my office.  My second favorite would be, STORAGE.  Previously, it was very difficult to store all of the bits and ephemera I’ve collected over the year.  But now everything can stay pretty neat and tidy… I love that.

Least favorite thing about your workspace?

None, see above comment.  🙂

What would you dream workspace look like and where would it be?

I live it!!  I remodeled my office last year, and since then it’s been a dream come true.

Ready for a sneak into Krista’s newly remodeled design space?  Check it out!

Isn’t Krista’s space divine?  I love all the wonderful storage Krista had built in to her design space.  I can’t help but noticing all the little touches of vintage that Krista has added throughout room too.  That cabinet with one of her scrapbooks out on display is absolutely an awesome idea!  How about you?  What did you enjoy learning about Krista and her design space?  Be sure and let us know in the comments!
