We all know what it is like. Sometimes your creative mojo is lacking. You miss scrapbooking inspiration even when you really want to do some scrapping. Maybe you want to join a challenge. Or you want to play catch up on your yearbook. It happens to everyone, so today I’m going to help you to get back into your creative flow. The Spanish artist Matisse used to say: Inspiration has to find you working. And he was right. It doesn’t work to wait around until inspiration magically reappears. You have to get to work, start scrapping. Prompt Cards are a good way to get back into the scrapbooking spirit. Prompts are like starting points for your creative ideas. They are also a great help when you want to go out of your comfort zone and scrap a little different from your normal approach.
Prompt cards or inspiration cards are widely available for all kinds of situations. Some have inspirational or spiritual quotes on them, other have tips and ideas for day trips or family activities. But hey, we’re digital scrapbookers, we can make our own. The set of prompt cards I am showing you can be used on screen or can be printed for inspiration whenever you need it.
To get the mojo going again I have created a set of 18 cards with 3 types of prompts: six materials cards, six photography prompts and six technique ideas.
And I have used the latest Memory Pocket Monthly kit called Purpose.
The cards are all the size of a large journal card, portrait orientation, so that is 6 inches tall and 4 inches wide. I created three base cards, one for each theme, varying a little with the elements on each card. And I used the MPM Purpose Alpha for the inspirational words. The cards were saved as PNG files. If you want the cards printed, place them on a letter sized or A4 document. Print on heavy cardstock, cut them out and put your prompt cards in a little box or a nice tin. Whenever you need some ideas, just take one or two cards and let the prompt inspire you.
Now for the computer friendly version you need a little extra work. But it will be worth it! Go back to the base card for one of the themes and save it as a blanc card, no prompt on it. Then add the PNG cards of that theme to your document. Name the layers Card 1, Card 2, etc and hide all of them except the base card layer. Do the same with the other themes. Next time you need some inspiration you open a prompt card document and choose a number. For instance Materials 6 and Photography 4. Simply unhide the corresponding card layer to find the prompts.
Need some help with deciding on the numbers? Roll a dice or use a number generator app.
Of course you can make more cards or change your prompts to suite the season. Choose different themes or make them as a gift for a creative friend. How about creating a set of cards with names of The Lilypad designers on them? There are lots of possibilities to make your own prompt cards and find inspiration whenever you need it.
