Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs?

Has the population grown much in recent years?

What do you love about where you live?

We are in a town that is rapidly growing, current around 35,000. It has grown by 5000+ over the last few years and with the amount of new builds that are going up, I estimate our population will grow another 5000+ in the next few years. We worry about the services and roadways here not being able to accommodate the growing population but hopefully it will all work out. We are about 20 minutes outside of Calgary, Alberta.

What I love most about our town is the community spirit. I've never lived somewhere where there are so many friendly, helpful people. There are many activities to participate in. All summer we have outdoor live music at the downtown plaza on Thursdays. The other thing I love about our town is the sidewalk pathway system here, you can walk for miles along intersecting paths, around the multitude of ponds, it is wonderful for the dogs.

Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs? I live outside of Washington, DC. Back when my parents bought the house it was way out in the "country" ... the bus line didn't even reach our neighborhood.

Has the population grown much in recent years? YES!!! Currently most of the original homes as they sell are being bought by builders and "McMansions" are going up left and right. My house is 912-SF "finished" ... the basement adds another 912-SF. The new homes are 5,000+ SF "finished" ... then there are the basements and two-three car garages.

You could put both levels of my house in the basement of my right side neighbor's house, lol!

What do you love about where you live? Location, location, location. I live 3 miles from my office and am less than mile from three major roads in my area.

I live in the middle of a forest!

It's a dirt road, but incredibly well placed as there is a nearby walkway across a tidal causeway that means I can be at the supermarket, pharmacy or doctor's office after a 5 minute scenic walk. Driving to the shops or to the nearby beach is a longer route, but only takes about 10 minutes.

The population has only grown slowly since a burst of building from the 1940s to 1970s, as there are tight restrictions and no reticulated water or waste (we have to have our own water and septic tanks)

I love the combination of peace and convenience, the birdlife and the beach. Also the neighbours are great. We have a whatsapp group for the road and regular social events, plus everyone on the island has been really welcoming since we moved.

Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs? Small town. Last reported population was around 9800. The closest city to us is about 34,000 down from 45,000 in 1990. It is 14 miles away.

Has the population grown much in recent years? Nope. According to a chart I found on google, it has only increased by 283 people since 1990. There have been new housing developments built but older housing within the city has gone away so it sorts itself out as being equal.

What do you love about where you live? Actually love that the population has not grown exponentially. It still has the same small town charm that it had when I was growing up. I can go from my side of town to the other side of town in 5 minutes. My town is also located what I call "the corner of I-75 and State Route 33" so 2 major highways are right here. State Route 33 lets me get to Columbus, Ohio or Fort Wayne, Indiana, both less than 90 minutes away. I-75 lets me get to Toledo, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Dayton, Ohio; and Cincinnati, Ohio. Detroit and Cincinnati are both around 3 hours.

I live in a suburb of the Phoenix metro area

Has the population grown much in recent years?
Phoenix has EXPLODED in growth over the 20+ years I've lived here. It's the 10th largest metropolitan area in the US and the 5th largest city by population.

What do you love about where you live?
I grew up in the suburbs of NYC and I'm firmly a suburban girl. I like the convenient lifestyle while still having access to city amenities and activities. Granted, Phoenix doesn't hold a candle to NYC but there's still lots to do. Our summers are terrible but our winters are amazing -- perfect weather for months.

We're in the sticks.
Population has been growing recently but still in the cornfields

Don't really love it.

It's hard to say. The entire tri-county area (Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach) is basically just overlapping cities. There's no break between them so you just pass a sign saying "now entering" or "now leaving" in between housing developments. There's a bit of discussion as to what town my house is technically in. I'm 30 min from Boca or West Palm (in okay traffic; not rush hour) so not big city but it's just a short jaunt on the highway to more city-ish vibes.

Has the population grown much in recent years?
Yeah. One of my college friends lived not far from where we are now as a kid and it was much more small-town vibes. There's a lot of new housing developments going up and I am dreading the continued increase in traffic congestion.

What do you love about where you live?
When we bought this house, it was less than 2 miles away from our old apartment but there's less traffic noise and more stars. We're still 10-15 minutes from the beach, 30ish from bigger cities, also 30ish from a national wildlife refuge (with darker skies!), and our part of the neighborhood is pretty quiet. We're homebodies so a lot of things about Lake Worth that appeal to people (the food, the arts, the nightlife) aren't things we appreciate.

BIG!!!! 4th most populated in the U.S. and growing. Love the winters. Hate the traffic.

Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs?
we live in the surburbs, it has a population of 75,000 now, just 10 minutes from the city. Still technically a hamlet though, for tax purposes.

Has the population grown much in recent years?
Yes, the neighbourhoods are growing and many new developments further north of us. Traffic is growing steadily, but hasn't hit pre-covid levels since lots of people still work from home.

What do you love about where you live?
The small town feel, so friendly and welcoming. Lots to do, lots of great restaurants without having to head into the city.

Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs? small city right outside of New Orleans (across the Mississippi River about 10 minutes). Our city population is about 17k and only 4.5 square miles wide. It is quite small

Has the population grown much in recent years? nope-stays between 14-17,000 people

What do you love about where you live? everything is close, everybody knows everyone, very very safe. Police chief has been in the same family since the 50's and they live/lived on my street. 2 police always respond to a call and ambulance time is less than 2 minutes

I lived in a suburb of Phoenix for 30 years before moving to a bit smaller Tucson area. And definitely that area EXPLODED.

Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs? I live in a suburban area not really within the city limits. It's near shopping and the Y, but despite how much walking happens in the area, there are no good walking paths attached to my neighborhood. I wouldn't call Tucson small, but it isn't super large -- according to Google search it's the 48th largest metro area in the US

Has the population grown much in recent years? The area is growing much faster than I like. There are several other towns that are expanding from Tucson and I kind of live where I border on two other towns.

What do you love about where you live? It's close to my daughter and grandson!

Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs?
Our city has a population of 115,000 so I guess it’s midsize?

Has the population grown much in recent years?
Yes there are always new homes replacing orchards and farms.

What do you love about where you live?
Convenient shopping, established and well run city, close to my parents and a couple siblings, lakes and mountains nearby.

Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs?
I live out in the southern suburbs of our largest city. I'm about an hour from the central business area.

Has the population grown much in recent years?
Yes, by how much though I'm not sure. The city has definitely expanded outwards over the years. Locally, I definitely know it's increased. When I first moved here in 1996, about two blocks away was horse racing tracks and pastures but now it's all housing and has been for a number of years.

What do you love about where you live?
To be honest not much....it's not my first choice of where I'd want to live but other circumstances dictate it. I've never felt like I truly fit or belong here so that probably contributes to why I feel the way I do. If I had to choose, I'd say I like the fact for the last 9 or 10 years I've had more access to buses (a 5 min walk away vs 15-20 min walk across train tracks & through a muddy steep park)

Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs?
We currently live in a suburb of a small town in New Brunswick, Canada, but we have land and my son's house about 40 min away on the Bay of Fundy, surrounded by beautiful hills, hobby farms, cliffs and beaches. As long as we have a child going to university, we will stay in town, but as soon as we can I would like to move out to the countryside.

Has the population grown much in recent years?
We've had A LOT of immigrants since the pandemic. The population growth has outgrown our infrastructure. The medical system and schools are really struggling and we are experiencing a housing crisis with, unfortunately, a growing homeless population. It's quite sad to see a once great country deteriorate this way.

What do you love about where you live?
I am a nature-lover, so I love being surrounded by hiking trails and a plethora of outdoor activities.

Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs? Brackenfell is a smallish town, but runs into Bellville and Durbanville which are much bigger cities so it's all really one huge town on the outskirts of the Cape Town metropole. But my area is suburban with wine farms within a short drive's distance.

Has the population grown much in recent years? This area has mushroomed since we moved here 30 some years ago and the roads have stayed inherently the same, so the traffic pressure is quite high. We have 84 000 people living here.

What do you love about where you live? I love the large properties, the wider roads, the closeness of everything one could want. 30 mins to the beach, city center, wine farms, mountain. I love the friendly people and the low crime.

Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs? We live in a tiny little city of 8,000 people right on the shores of Lake Michigan. We are in the middle of cities like Kalamazoo, South Bend (Indiana) and Chicago, so we are near fun stuff but still have a little town feel.

Has the population grown much in recent years? Nope, it's actually gone down a bit.

What do you love about where you live? Almost everything! I love how close everything is to my house and I love the beaches nearby. It's such a cute little town with fun activities most weekends in the summer. It's safe and not over crowded except by tourists in the summers, but that's what keeps our town thriving, so its all good. We have virtually zero real traffic, so that's fantastic too. :agree

Are you in a big or small city/town? Out in the 'burbs?
I'd call it a town, but we are outside city limits. The population inside city limits is about 6,000, but the actual city limits is relatively small. If you include all the people that use our same zip code but aren't actually within the limits, the population is more like 30,000.

Has the population grown much in recent years?
We've been on a steady decline for years. There's just not a lot of industry to keep people here.

What do you love about where you live?
Not a whole lot haha. We have great outdoor spaces and activities, and my actual neighborhood was amazing for raising children. BUT, I am done with mountains and especially done with winter. I'm tired of dreading winter coming and worrying about drivng. We have very few roads flat roads. I'm tired of not being able to make plans for months out of the year because I don't know if we'll be able to get there. Sorry, that was more a list of things I don't love about where I live haha.

Are you in a big or small city/town? I live in a mid size city of 84,000. Close to many other towns, and 45 min from a big city.

Has the population grown much in recent years? A little, but not much. There's not much room to grow as we're surrounded by mountains and other towns.

What do you love about where you live? It's a university town, great shopping & restaurants, charming downtown area, great recreation, & mountains. One of the unique things I love about where we live is that we are within walking distance to any type of school - literally blocks from the elementary school, middle school, high school, and university. I also love that we have all four seasons.
