I love listening to kids brag about how they are "the best at ...". It's not usually true, but I love their self confidence! I'm not sure when or why we lose that confidence, unless it's figuring out that while we thought we were the best Lego builders, it turns out that some people are paid to do that!

So today, let's borrow some child-like confidence: What are you good at? Don't think about people who might be better. Just think about what you are good at!

Courtney, I hope you answer too!

It's funny how adults are conditioned to not admit they are good at something without it coming across as bragging and when people do, they can be perceived as lacking humility.

I'm a good leader, scrapper, cook, photographer and I have a decent eye for fashion ... and adequate at everything else!

many things.
  • I'm very good at maths and have a research degree in engineering mathematics - I was a world expert on something for a while in my early 20s.
  • I'm good at diabetes management (the maths helps)
  • I'm good at art, crafts, design, and sewing.
  • I'm a great cook, and used to make the best pie crust (before I had to switch to gluten free - getting a decent gluten free pie crust is a miracle.)
  • I'm a good mum
  • I'm a great advocate
  • I'm good at finding out things and making good evaluations
  • I'm loyal, dependable, and full of integrity

I am good at crafts , I am a good wife, if you ask me anyway, and a good friend . I am good at writing, ( journaling or short stories, not epic novels ) I am a decent cook , a good manager , and I am really good at having fun, reading books and putting my feet up. :banana

I'm a good wife, mom, grandma, dog mom, scrapper, photographer, but don't like to cook. I'm artistic and love keeping up with technology. My girls come to me to help them with IT stuff and my hubby knows very little and what he does know, I've taught him. My grandkids think I'm the coolest because I know all about Social Media and what's current. I have heard all of them brag at some time "my grandma knows this and my grandma knows that". One time Cameron told a kid at school who was bullying him that if he didn't stop, he'd "tell my grandma and she'll come after you!" I'm sure that put the fear in him! :lol:lol ( I can testify, because I saw this on FB. He actually went into a little more detail, but I'll keep it at this.) *Not afraid to brag, here* My by-line that I want to be remembered by is "don't mess with anybody I love".:carryon

I really struggle with saying I'm good at something, only because it's usually pointed out to me in one way or another that actually, I'm not. True story. Cut down at the knees, people. At the knees. bwahahahaha

I'm also with Sheri @SeattleSheri - that people perceive those that share positive attributes as being a braggart.

While I struggle to express it sometimes, I think it's so important to find those attributes and skills that make you the wonderful you that you are and to be open about sharing that. I read a quote recently that went along the lines of "you don't have to tear down another woman's castle in order to build your own." Just because I say something positive about myself doesn't mean I'm taking anything away from another person . . . but sometimes it feels like that.

Anywhoooooo . . . I'll play along.

I love to create layout compositions and I'm good at it.
I'm a good mother.
I'm a fabulous wife. (too many exceptional skills to list here ha!)
I'm an artist, and I'm good at the art I enjoy making.
I have mastered putting on a brave face and encouraging others, even when I'm feeling terrible. This isn't denying that I'm miserable, but that sometimes someone else is more important than the pain I'm in.
I'm a good cook when I cook - but I don't usually enjoy the process. I always enjoy the results!
I'm great at organizing - digitally and in real life.

Hmmm, you are right @SeattleSheri !
I'm good at watercolor painting, sketching/drawing with the exception of straight lines, lol. I can spot trends before they become mainstream. Picking names for pets, brands usually comes easily to me. Merchandising is a strength of mine. Planning and administration and teaching are also strengths. And I'm good with ethnic recipes.

I love these kinds of questions. I have a pretty healthy ego/level of self-confidence and it's still all too easy to be negative about my abilities.

So having said that ... I'm very good at writing, scrap art/journaling, and interior design. Pretty good at cooking and baking. Good mom, too, although I'm sure there are people who might debate me on it, myself included. My grown kids think I am, that's good enough for me.

And I'm a hecking champ at fake it 'til you make it :-D

So interesting!

• I'm good at baking cupcakes (I have 4 dozen to bake today!)
• I'm good at scrapbooking
• I'm good at cleaning (my house, and teeth!) ;) ;)
• I'm a good Mom & Wife (always trying to be a good one counts in my opinion!)

I am a good listener, I know what family friends love, so great gift giver.
I am the best at cat naps and finding misplaced socks or items, unless I am the one that misplaced it.
I am a great memory keeper, love blogging, scrapbooking and photographing.

It is so tricky self acknowledging - I struggle receiving compliments from others, I always say that others are much better than me...

I guess I'm good at most crafts I turn my hand to
I'm good at organising events, travel and parties
I'm good at parenting - the kids all live at home still as do their partners and their friends call me Mum as well so must be doing something right...
I am a good wife - I think I am getting better at this now I have found my voice as well - for many years I had no confidence
I'm a good cook when I can be bothered...

I am excellent at sarcasm, profanity, and naps :giggle
I'm also good at staying calm, talking to people, and I read people pretty well.
I'm a good mom and grandma, even though my children would have all disagreed from time to time (although I think that's part of what makes me a good mom).
I'm a good at scrapping and amazing at procrastination (hence all the work I've had to do on my spring break lol)

This is hard...

I'm good at running my household & keeping everything organized (for the most part).
I'm good at teaching my children or at least guiding them to love learning.
I'm good at not giving up even when things get hard.

When I saw what this was about I was going to scroll on by this thread because I'm not good at sharing lol
but, I am making myself participate more and honestly faltering at the first (difficult for me) hurdle is not a good way to get back into the forum! Sooooooooo, here I go,

I am good at being a wife and mother, I am good at worrying (goes with being a good wife and mother I think), I am a great (and prolific) reader, I am good at knitting endless scarfs (that I will never be able to wear as often as I like because I live in sub tropical Queensland!) and I am pretty darn good at making the people around me happy even when I'm not.

So there you have it.

Personally I have a tough time answering as I feel I’m mostly ok at most things but professionally I’d say - Advocacy, Research would be my two strongest things

This is making me twitchy just to answer. It's not in my nature. :giggle

But, since we are here in a scrappy forum, I can say that I'm good at scrapbooking and memory keeping. I'm also really good at collecting crafts. I love when I see something I want on Pinterest or even in a store and then I try to make it myself. I don't always succeed, but I'm good at trying even when some people around me think I can't do it.

This is actually a good exercise; sometimes we get so busy trying to stay "caught up" that we forget to reflect on the things that we have done well. It's something that I always think about doing, but rarely sit down to actually consider.

That said, I'm currently trying to figure out what it is that I am good at. I have recently switched to a stay-at-home mom and there are so many things that I have surprised myself that I can actually do. Like cooking -- I've always shied away from cooking, so my husband would cook or we would (more often) eat out, but the kids have been really good about trying the things I'm learning to make and most of them have gotten surprising-to-me high approvals!

That's not an example of what I think I'm good at; it's an example of what a positive exercise this can be. I'm with the rest of you that can't think of any concrete examples Right Now. But I'm going to try...

I am good at organizing. Doesn't matter what it is; I'll sort and organize it. Love to wash dishes (I have a flexible system) but I can't stand putting them away. Same with laundry -- love to sort, love to fold and hang, but hate to put them away. (I suppose that's why I have kids -- they put away their own clothes!) I have four organized systems for scrapbooking, depending on where and what I'm working on. I won't go into details here, but I love nothing better than to figure out ways to make them better. And vacation planning! One of my most favorite things to do ever, plus, I don't have to actually *do* anything after I've planned it -- just make the reservations and follow my family around like the last duckling. LOL!
