Want some CC?

Sure I'll throw one in the pot.

I am not entirely happy with this one. There seems to be something missing.

I agree with Miss Kate! I would shrink the birthday to fit with the rock and and move it down a bit so it overlaps. Then, I would add a darker shadow for the rocks. I would also raise the yellow balloon so you can see it a bit more, it seems lost where it is. Other than those two things, I love it.

I ALWAYS love CC!!!!

I really love this! But, I agree with Miss Kate. For me, that little whitespace between the flower and blossom is distracting. When I first saw this LO, my eye immediately went to that little space. I would fill it will something if it were mine. Other than that, I love it.

i like the idea of this layout. i question the different fonts and how i used the photos...and of course any other suggestions please!

I actually really love this LO! If this were mine, the only thing I'd change it the fonts. I'd use the typewriter font for the question, but I would use the same font for my answer. I love how you use the photos and I love that alpha for the title.

thank ladies! I have to admit that little white space had me questioning things too! LOL Will work on this later today! THANK YOU!

I can't give constructive advice on other people's pages based on what I'd do on my own page, or my constructive criticism would always be like "Get rid of all those patterned papers, shrink the whole composition down, and find some nice white or beige paper...":rofl

But for Claire, when I looked at your page I think the "rock" needs to have way more depth in the shadows (Distance=46, Spread=0, Size=46 ... somewhere in there, that's about what I use for things like blocks, rocks, etc) and I like Kate's idea of tucking the "Birthdays" behind it. I also feel like the title needs an anchor down at the bottom right - whether it's just moving those red squiggly things down behind the "K" in "rock" or what. I feel like the balance is a bit off there with nothing anchoring the bottom corner of the title. And I'd probably shove something "half on, half off" the page down along the border in the lower right, too. Because you sort of have that going on in all the other corners but then the bottom right corner feels lonely.

On the other layouts anything I would have contributed has already been said.

Oh thank you ladies!! It's so fun to hear your thoughts on it. It's definitely given me something to think about and I'll play around tonight with the results!

Okay firstly if you plan to print this as 12" then your journalling is too big. I came across a fabulous tip recently...open up a 1" document, then place a ruler on the screen and zoom out until they match up. For me it's 25% zoom. Now when you do your journalling always be at this percentage and choose your font size to look right here.

I like the first 2 fonts, but I don't think the last one matches. I'd keep it the same as the other ?pea font.

I love your crop and repetition of the photo but I personally I wouldn't rotate the left ones so much.

And me personally I would also change the pp to a less bright and cheery one, and shrink the title down! If you shrink your journalling, the title will look better shrunk too! hmmm I'd probably change the alpha for the title too...something more subtle, But I still like it!

Oh and steal should be steel. :)

Lauren, I love this also. Your work is so honest! Who can't appreciate that. The only thing I would change is the shadowing on Cry seems to sharp and maybe to distant for me. I am always more comfortable when my work looks like something is physically capable of looking that way. And to me tape would not be that shadowy. However, I would add more shadow, or change the direction of the shadows on the page to have the shadow stand out better on the pictures. Love your color choice here.

Thank you ladies so much for this!! What a fun exercise!!! I did try everyone's critiques and played around with them. And believe it or not (although I think looking at the whole design the changes are very subtle) I did change alot. And it really does change the feel of the layout. (I know blah, blah, blah get to the layout.) Here it is:
Original (just so you don't have to scroll like crazy):
Birthdays-Rock.jpg

and the final:
Birthdays-Rock-2.jpg

I could be mean and make this a find what's different game, but instead I'll just list the changes.
1. Birthday smaller and under rock. (Although I tried a smaller rock, I decided rocks way more and the layout is more about what we did for her birthday.)
2. Heavier shadow on rock. (Thank you Peppermint for the shadow suggestions. Unfortunately I'm using PSE 7, which shadowing totally sucks on, so I just went distance further and softer. Still not sure I like? (but I wasn't happy with the old one either.)
3. Yellow balloon smaller, moved down, and to the side a little. (I think this makes the yellow stand out.)
4. Moved the confetti and stars around a bit. The flow is suppose to be a side to side with a subtle corner to corner for added interest. I realized I needed to make the flow more obvious.
5. Changed the color of her shirt. I hear you on the blue clashing. I tried to change it to a red or yellow to match the accent colors, but I'm not that good at selecting through hair. So I stuck to a color close to the original blue so the change wasn't obvious when (if???) I ever print it out.

Again thanks!! I loved seeing other's approach and perspective!!

woohoo! Looks great! I agree with the rock being bigger now! Do you know that once you have a drop shadow on your element you can double click the fx icon and get more options? Not as many as PS but much better than the default shadows they give you!

I ALWAYS love CC!!!!

Poo on you, you can't have CC On this one, its AMAZING, but i love white space so if it were mine I would:
take the right side (pick words bright foliage wildflower weeds) and move them more left. And make the journaling box narrower and longer so its all more compact. and because it would now be more narrower I would do a 90 degree turn on that doodle border. But I'm amazing so don't worry about me.

then you have MORE white space, he he he hahahhaha

ACKKKKKKKKK! I hate when that happens... still I love your layout!!!!

Looks like those that have posted for CC have already gotten some stellar feedback!

Okay, patterned papers and strong colored papers are really a challenge for me so I'm putting this one up for CC. TIA!

Umm Leslie. Just what do you want me to say about this LO? It's freaking fabulous the way it is! I really don't see one thing that I would change on it. :wub

Haha Leslie. You really have your work cut out for you on this page, where do I begin? :: insert sarcasm here ::

I did a page like this, with the vertical line of journaling (seen here), and the only thing I did differently was add journaling highlights. I don't know that it would look right on your page, though, because the theme of yours is more sentimental. So I guess I'd have to say - I like it just the way it is. LOL

Ditto Paula and Peppermint! It's a great page Leslie! The *only* thing you might consider, and I'd really have to see it to know if it was right or not, is to possibly change the photo from B/W to sepia or antique to keep with the "warm" theme of the page. Sometimes this works, sometimes not, so its one of those things I would try but might not keep, KWIM?
