Want some CC?

when i first started digi, years ago, people used to actually be responsive to CC comments on layouts. (CC = constructive criticism) instead of just a comment of "cute layout" that really is simply fluff (yes, i have posted that very comment on occasion), there would actually be comments made like "maybe a different font in the title" or "a little smaller photo may have worked better."

we all want affirmation our work is good, sure... (unless your name is Rez and you are just a princess like that). but, are we confident enough to share our work and open ourselves up for a little criticism? the beauty of art is that there is no "right" way to do things - i always tell my kids, "it's YOUR art!" but, at the same time, there are some things that can help a project be improved to be a bit more appealing to the viewing eye.

some such examples include using a different font, angling a photo when it's originally straight on the page, cropping a photo differently, changing the color of a particular element, deleting a photo background, decluttering in a specific spot, etc.

so, who is willing to share some work and leave themselves up for some CC? if i ever get 2seconds to finish up some of those 100 layouts i've got :whistle, i am more than happy to share. link us up or post a layout here so we can have a chance to help each other improve and maybe learn something new along the way...

Nice avatar Amy! :lol

I am more than willing to participate, too. Should they be pages with Lilypad stuff only?

same rules apply as for gallery posting as far as % of TLP stuff...

I know I'm not the shizzle yet so I love cc!

You just get every comment the same, makes you think okay did you look at my layouts???

:whistle

I would love this!! The nice comments make you feel good...until you get over the buzz and realise that they are all the same...or all fishing for comments for themselves! And I see other LOs that I don't like with so many comments and think if they say that's nice then what do they really think of mine?
Some real CC can be hard to take, but if you are strong enough then it can be a huge step forward for your scrapping! I would love to keep growing and improving so count me in!

Sure I'll throw one in the pot.

I am not entirely happy with this one. There seems to be something missing.

i would LOVE some cc ! i'll start posting my LOs here ... but if ANYONE wants to check out my gallery and post some cc there - i'd be really appreciative actually :) seriously! i have one cc for myself - stop using templates ALL.THE.TIME - LOL - i'm addicted - it's bad! LOL!

I'm game! I don't consider myself an expert though.... and I agree with Amy, it's all up to our own interpretations... everybody's art is beautiful!

I have to agree with Eryn! I LOVE this page so stinkin cute! But a smaller "rock" and a heavier shadow since they are ROCKS I think would help this AMAZING page!!!!

OMG those flowers are gorgeous!! I suggest fuzzier (larger size) shadows for the flowers...the other shadows look great but the flowers don't quite look right. Are you adding a title? A title just under the photo on the right would look great. And last thing you have a patch of trapped negative space right in the centre...it draws the eye to nothing! Other than that this LO ROCKS! Very scrapliftable!

(tip for flower shadow - if you make them fuzzier and they are too big, put the shadow on a new layer (right click, create layer) and then distort or scale it down. You could also erase any bits that are poking out on the wrong side of the flower)

Sure I'll throw one in the pot.

Right, well I'm going to disagree with the other CC on this page so far! :lol I like the big "rock" but I'd move the "birthdays" part down behind the rock a bit so the two words overlap and maybe make it a bit smaller so that it's the same width (ish). And I'd make a bigger softer shadow on "rock" too. The other thing I would do if this is my page is make the yellow balloon smaller and move it down a little bit.

If you change anything please come back and post the new version, I'd love to see!

I ALWAYS love CC!!!!

I'm going to critique everything as if it were my page! The only thing I would change if this was mine is to get rid of the little spot of white space in the centre of the page between the blossom strip and the blue flower by using some more of the scribbles in a lighter colour, just something really pale so it fills the space but doesn't distract from anything else!

But then again if it really was my page I'd then have to fill the rest of the space with all sorts of everything, white space makes me nervous :giggle

i totally want cc. back in the day of hello i used to bug lauren all the time about my layouts and ask her for advice. I know she misses me on hello. :lol2

so - if this was my layout, using kate's words, the blue in the photo would be something that would have to change for me - either by repeating that color in the layout or by going in and changing the hue on the photo to come to a tone that is closer to your bg paper. that's just me - i get real nervous with bold primary colors. i like everyone's suggestion about the title - i want to see which way you choose!

here's mine

i like the idea of this layout. i question the different fonts and how i used the photos...and of course any other suggestions please!
