Does anyone have any tips etc on using MPM kits in non pocket pages? I have a heap of kits that I’ve bought over the years (and of course want to pick up more during summer school this week) but no ideas on how to use them for normal layouts.
MPM kits still have a ton of other elements. I'd look at the example pages from the store, there's a ton of NON-pocket page example pages usually. https://the-lilypad.com/store/Memory-Pockets-Monthly-GO.html https://the-lilypad.com/store/BAREFOOT-June-22/
I'm not a "pocket person" though I really want to learn. Made this for the speed scrap yesterday, though. And here's a few others where I used journaling cards:
I am not a pocket person either and use them all the time.. the elements and papers are awesome as are the other goodies included.
I use a lot of the MPM kits in both pocket and regular layout. I've added a few tips below for some of the more pockety ones on how you could change them. Here's MPM Barefoot: Same kit, two different layouts. This is kinda a pocket page, but it's also kinda a regular layout: If I had more photos, I would replace a few of the cards with photos. Or, if my photos were a higher quality, I would replace a few of the cards and use a 4x6 or larger photo. MPM Details MPM Soar: MPM Farewell: This one is pockety because of the stitching and grid. But, it's also a template from Lynn Grieveson. So, for me it doesn't feel like a pocket page. The second one is more what I think of as a pocket page. But, it has some good layering of elements over the journal cards and photos, so I thought I'd add it. If you took off the top and bottom row, it'd be less pocket, more layout.
I rarely do pocket pages but love to scrap with MPM kits. I just think of them like regular kits with lots of journal cards. Here’s a link to a tutorial I did on 10 ways to use journal cards. Hope it helps get your creative juices flowing.
@littlekiwi take a look at the MPM gallery to inspire you in using MPM product as other than pocket pages Here is one page I did for my collage with the Love Our Designers Other times I mix elements from MPM with other things too as there are a lot of great goodies in them.. FOundation being my favorite I think Here is another page I made with just MPM Feb 2022 Soar
Oh and here’s a blog post I did that uses one of the ideas in my other post on using jcs in photo spots. This layout uses an MPM kit for a non pocket layout.
This is pockety - but easily tweaked to be a plain layout. Using cards and some elements over the top of your large photo. I could totally do something similar to this with an MPM as well.
I use it like normal kits too, like everyone here. I would focus more on the papers, elements, and alphas for my scrapbook layouts but there are times when I would use pocket cards on my layouts too. I would treat them like papers - use them as is, 'cut' into shapes and different sizes, layer them underneath my photos, etc. Here's some of my layouts using MPM Ordinary: For comparison, here's a pocket page I made for my PL album using MPM Ordinary: And here's a couple of layouts using MPM Cultivate: Hope that helps you stretch your stash!
Thank you all for your ideas, I just didn’t want to spend money on pocket scrapping kits/collections I couldn’t use in other ways. I may just play with the MPM kits that I already have first and see what I can do.
