Seasons of insomnia. Insomnia sounds so scary. I go thru seasons of sleeping right hours, then a few weeks of a whole lot less. Lol
At 2:30 am, my eyes opened, and I was awake. Four and a half hours of sleep. Time to get up, have a hot drink. This morning it is chai. I will read, look at my calendar for today, make lists and enjoy the solitude. I know a power nap at 2pm will be scheduled for today.
What do you do when those seasons of short hours of sleep?
What I wish, is that I could vacuum. Bhaha!

yep insomnia here too, part of it is the heat at night right now, part of it is how i’m feeling with my health at the moment. I know it will pass, just got to wait it out and know that once i’m tired enough i’ll get sleep.

That was me last night. All this week actually. Bouts of insomnia are the worst!

I do mini little meditation sessions on my iPhone (headspace app) or try to read something insanely boring to force my mind to shutdown. I don't ever actually get up and out of bed at 2:30 in the morning. That is just too early for me. I'll just lie in bed and hope I can eventually nod off. (which I did finally). The earliest I'll get out of bed is 5 or 5:30. Feeling for all the non sleepers out there. :beat

I don't suffer from insomnia, but I have a hard time falling asleep. I move around, try to get comfortable. I can't read, cause that's enjoyable and will keep me up. I will play Candy Crush occasionally, cause I get bored and it makes me tired when I lose, lol! Once I'm asleep, then I have no issue staying asleep.

Right now, it's hard because of the puppy... to physically get up, take him outside, get him back in the crate, and then settle down to fall back asleep will wreak havoc for a few months. DH is the best and tries to get up before me... or he is a lighter sleeper. :giggle I will go with he is the best, lol!

That sounds awful. Thankfully I haven't had to deal with this ever, I'm usually running so much during the day that I basically fall into bed at night. Most nights I read until I fall asleep. Sometimes that's two words, sometimes that's two chapters. But I guess I've done that for so long it's my body's memo that it's time to chill and go to sleep. I do wake up in the middle of the night sometimes, but it's usually because I'm thirsty. I take a big drink of water (always at my bedside table) and promptly go back to sleep. Hope you get back to normal hours soon Anne! (and others who struggle).

I hear ya! Peyton (7 months old) had been doing really good about not needing to go out during the night until this last couple of weeks. That is when I switched her from puppy food to adult food. I'm thinking it has messed her up because she is going poop all the time! Used to be 2 times a day. The other day was 6!

I usually end up getting up to go to the bathroom at least once a night. Last night was twice and the 2nd time (at 2:30) Peyton decided that she needed to go out as well. Once we were both back in bed (a crate for her), I couldn't get to sleep. So I laid in bed and watched "Chopped" until I fell asleep. Last time I looked at the clock was 5:00. I have normally been getting up between 7 and 7:30. Today it was 8:00. Normally I can go right back to sleep after I go to the bathroom. My mind just wouldn't shut down last night at all.

I feel bad for anyone that suffers from insomnia - short or long term - it stinks!

Chronic insomnia is something I've lived with for years.

Long story short - 5 years ago I was prescribed an opioid for sleep that worked well for the first 3 years but the past 2 years has been a struggle. Most nights the meds made me hyper rather than restful. In October made the decision to stop taking them and have been med-free for just over 6 weeks and it has not been fun - lots of withdrawal symptoms (anxiety, depression, mood swings) and of course, not sleeping. I wake up about every 2 hours to the minute (I know I shouldn't look at the clock ... lol). Most nights I am in bed for between 8 and 9 hours and according to the sleep app I have, I get between 5 and 6 hours of sleep.

I have an appointment with a new doctor tomorrow and hope to have a sleep study done to see what's up with this.

well........at 4am, I snuggled on the couch with my little dog..she stretched out next to me, and 7am came rather quick! lol, so now I can vacuum.

I tend to fall asleep right away but I often wake up at 4 am wide awake. I usually end up getting up and going to lie on the couch with a glass of milk and a book.

This was the first thread I saw this morning when I logged on. It's 12:38 pm in Texas and I just now got out of bed. I went to bed at 4 am. It's becoming a habit. I stopped working outside the house and work for myself now. I edit photos and find that I do better at night. More productive. But I can't blame that on the last two nights. I was doing very well with this for a while. Going to bed at 1 am and getting up around 9 am. But for some reason I just hate daytime and love night. My husband is also gone traveling and has been for a while and it's taking it's toll which is another reason I am up.

Maybe there should be an insomnia chat sometime. lol

I suffer from insomnia all the time...I'm so jealous of those that can fall asleep right away and stay asleep, or if they do happen to wake up, they have zero issues falling back asleep! If I do happen to fall back asleep or take a nap later I wake up with the wort headaches, so it's just not worth it.

I usually read or get lost in the rabbit hole that is Pinterest LOL

I hope that helps! DH sleeps much better since he was diagnosed with apnea and got his machine.

Always! I like to look on the side on the front page and see who else is hanging out. It makes me sad when it's just me here super late at night!

I don't read - keeps me up to finish it if it's a novel!

I play logic games on my phone. This kind:

It relaxes my brain, and I think since I'm concentrating so hard on the clues, it's like meditation? I fall asleep after a few every time.

I've actually been sleeping much better since my surgery - it's amazing what having less pain will do for your sleep! LOL

Now, if I'm up late, it's usually by choice. This past weekend, the entire family stayed up until 2 am and then we slept in. Most of the time now I'm "in bed" at 11 pm and don't get up until 8 am. I often don't fall asleep until midnight or 1 am though, but I am resting.

Sending ((HUGS)) to everyone who suffers with their sleep. It really does take a toll on not only your body, but your emotions and your mind as well.

I used to never have trouble sleeping and then....menopause! :giggle I could go to sleep pretty well, but if anything woke me up it would take me hours to go back to sleep. That seems to have passed now and I am back to sleeping pretty well. I get up for work at 5am, so I try to be in bed by 9:30ish. On those rare times I do wake up, I really can't do much of anything because I can't focus, I usually just lay there until I fall back asleep.

Oh no!!! I have had a few bouts of insomnia where I just can't get to sleep until 1 or 2 am for a couple of days even though I am exhausted. But at the moment, my sleep is being interrupted by that pesky almost 3 y/o!! He sleeping so poorly at the moment, 4 or 5 wake ups every night. It takes all my willpower not to let him just stay in our bed so that we can get some sleep. Have implemented a sleep chart now and he gets a sticker every time he sleeps in his own bed all night. Works some nights...

For the last three years or so, l average 5 hours of sleep. I have no problem falling asleep, I just wake up early and can't fall back asleep. This morning I was up at 3:15 a.m. Padded downstairs, washed dishes, took my supplements, packed my lunch, brewed and sipped my tea. Finished off a really dumb novel, checked messages and worked on a couple of layouts, all before I took my shower at 7.

Ok what is this app called? DD & I love these kind of puzzles but we have paper books of them

So I'm on the frequent waking & can't always get back to sleep bandwagon too but for the sake of everyone else in the household, I just listen to audiobooks, I know I've had a relatively good year for me cos I haven't finished as many audiobooks as previously!

Went to a new doctor today about my insomnia - and have a new prescription I'll start taking - non-habit forming and non-hypnotic - if these don't do the trick then I'll have a sleep study done - but I'm being very optimistic! I really liked the doctor and think we're on the right track!
