So we are all from different parts of the world! Now I know I will never see everything in this lifetime...lol! But I'd like to know a little bit more about each of my friends here at TLP! So, tell me something that you love or is 'famous' about where you live - town, city, state, country! I'd love to see a picture too, if you are up to it!:flirty:flirty

I'm from West New York, NJ, where I have lived most of my life. This is the most densley populated area in the U.S. We have lots of diversity, stores, good places to eat! It's not much to look at but we do have a great view!

I love being so close to New York City, it's a quick bus ride from here, unless you get stuck in traffic like we did on Friday night! LOL!

Beautiful. Although I live quite a distance from NY now, as I moved across Canada... I hope to someday get there.. and see Miss Heather Hess.. and now I can call you up too!! :)

lol I live in Ohio...

Some tidbits from Wikipedia:

In 2009, CNNMoney named Medina the 40th most desirable American city to live in.
In 1869 Amos Root founded the A.I. Root Company in Medina as a manufacturer of beehives and beekeeping equipment, and the town became a center for beehive manufacturing.

And we also had the first "Super K-Mart" although last year it went back to being a regular one, and now it's closing. lol

Here's a pic of what the main part of town looks like (except snowier atm as it's coming down good right now).

Just down the road from this is all the Target/Starbucks/Chipotle/Wal-Mart etc type stuff.

Interesting, tidbits!! Thanks for sharing Angie! I went through Ohio on my way to Atlanta a few times back in the 90's. Where I used to live in BC, they had angled parking... I don't see that much here. Is that a Canadian flag, I see???

lol could be. I grabbed this pic off the web, it's possible it was taken during International Week when they have all sorts of different flags up.

here's some facts I pulled from Wikipedia on Memphis. Though my favorite tidbit, a lot of foreign places that do travel here for Elvis Week tell every one not to travel alone or at night. :lol Prepare for info overload.

Memphis had a population of 662,897 at the 2010 census,[1] making it the largest city in the state of Tennessee, the third largest in the Southeastern United States, and the 20th largest in the United States.

Memphis is well known for its cultural contributions to the identity of the American South. Many renowned musicians grew up in and around Memphis and moved from the Mississippi Delta.[12] These included such musical greats as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Muddy Waters, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Robert Johnson, W. C. Handy, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Isaac Hayes, Booker T. Jones, Al Green, Justin Timberlake, Three 6 Mafia, The Sylvers, and many others.

Memphis has a humid subtropical climate, with four distinct seasons. Winter weather comes from the upper Great Plains or from the Gulf of Mexico, leading to drastic swings in temperature. Summer weather may come from Texas (very hot and humid) or the Gulf (hot and very humid). July has an average high and low of 91.6 °F (33.1 °C) and 73.8 °F (23.2 °C), with high levels of humidity due to moisture encroaching from the Gulf of Mexico. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are frequent during summer, but usually brief, lasting no longer than an hour. Early autumn is pleasantly drier and mild, but can be hot until late October. Late autumn is rainy and cooler; precipitation peaks again in November and December. Winters are mild to chilly, with average January high and low temperatures of 49.8 °F (9.9 °C) and 32.6 °F (0.3 °C). Snow occurs sporadically in winter, with an average yearly snowfall of 3.9 inches (99 mm). Ice storms and freezing rain pose greater danger, as they can often pull tree limbs down on power lines and make driving hazardous.

[as of 2010 census]The median income for a household in the city was $32,285, and the median income for a family was $37,767. [which actually puts poor little ol' me ABOVE the average lol]

One of the largest celebrations the city has is Memphis in May. The month-long series of events promotes Memphis' heritage and outreach of its people far beyond the city's borders. There are four main events, the Beale Street Music Festival, International Week, the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, and the Sunset Symphony. The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is the largest pork barbecue cooking contest in the world.

The Blind Side (2009) was set in Memphis but filmed in Atlanta. *cough - this is a reason I protest this movie. lol anyone who has ever lived here knows that the location looks nothing like Memphis. lol*
You can find more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memphis,_Tennessee
((I share all this because I no longer live IN Memphis. lol I grew up there, and still live near it))

This is very fun!

I live in Kennewick, Washington, which is part of the Tri-Cities - Kennewick, Richland and Pasco. The Columbia River separates Kennewick and Pasco.

Something we are famous for is the Hanford Nuclear Site - the first full scale plutonium production reactor in the world, and part of the Manhattan project. Plutonium produced there was used in the Fat Man bomb that was dropped on Nagaski, Japan. And it is currently the most contaminated nuclear site in the US :(

We also have Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where some amazing science is done every day. Of course, I'm a bit biased, because that's where I work :) We also have amazing wineries here, and hydroplane races every August.

oh this is great!!

well I live in a rural town called Lara but it is very central to main cities like Melbourne (about 40min drive) and Geelong (about 15 min drive) as well as the best surf beaches (about 40 mins)

We just have a small shopping centre which has the basics, if you want to go to Target, Starbucks etc you need to go to Geelong

our most recognised landmark in our area is the You Yangs a series of granite ridges that pop up from very flat land!

youyangs.jpg

lots of kangaroos etc in this area but not in the main area where the houses are

quite a few movies/tv series are filmed out near the you yangs, Mad Max being one of them

these are the only pics I could find on google, which makes it look like I live in the middle of no where but I don't really.

Kaye, up until now I thought you lived in the UK like Kate! Whoops! :giggle

These are SO interesting!!

And this is my small little town
1. This just coming into town from the west side.
2. The second one is a Old High School, but now its a Senior Center with other offices up on top floor.
3. We also have barn around here. But most of the old ones are down with newer ones up.
4. Power Plant - DH works there
5. My town is Ranchers/Farmers. Its a small town, mostly everyone know everyone:)
