TLP Tourist

This is the town I live in
http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotos-g33165-Temecula_California.html
I've lived in southern Caligornia since 1998. Before that, we lived near Seattle, Washinton for 10 years (loved living there) and before that, I was in Alaska for 7 years. All gorgeous places to live...but I was born and raised in California so I couldn't wait to move home.

Here's my hometown where I lived my first 20 years
http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotos-g33048-Santa_Cruz_California.html
Why I left for adventures in Alaska, I have no idea.

Where I live now has a beautiful wine country...I'm less than an hour to gorgeous beaches, an hour to San Diego, an hour to Disneyland...there is everything here you could want. Beaches, mountains close by, skiing in the winter if you want...and the weather is perfect. It does get hot here in the summer, but it's a very dry heat. The wind picks up at about 3 pm and cools the valley off too, and we can open our windows at night and cool the house down.

Ive visited a few places mentioned here..but of course I'd love to go everywhere and see the world.

Cheryl, that walk out thingy would freak me out! I'm scared of heights and that is a long way down, I'd be thinking about all the people and how much weight was on it..lol!!
:lol
That was totally what I was thinking when I saw that picture.

I'm originally from Arkansas but now live in the Chicago burbs.

We've really only been downtown about 5 or so times since moving here but some of our favorites (I love Google image search).

our really small train station LOL (I´m living pretty near to it) - this train is only driving from the next city to the mountains

As for real tourist stuff, there just isn't very much here. It's all about relaxing and summer here.

well...my town...I live in Santos, it's by the sea, near São Paulo, Brazil.

here we have the biggest Latin American Port, lots of Cruise Ships leave town every week...

The garden along the beach is also on Guinnes Book, as the largest garden of the world, with more than 7 km...

the soccer team, Santos Futebol Clube is the one that made our town the most famous...Pelé used to play here and last year we played with Barcelona in Japan's Fifa world Cup.

Santos just made 466 years last thursday...well, I could go on and on talking about my city, I really love here, there are museums, Seaquarium, the beach, lots of places to do sports...it's a very beautiful city with lots of things for the tourists!!

I'm "gaúcha", like we call people as we call people who were born in southern Brazil - Rio Grande do Sul, the state (best place ever, right, Ana Paula? lol). I lived there until I was 24 years old (when I met Di, my husband, who were born in Rio de Janeiro)

South Brazil is where it gets more cold from here (we have a tropical climate, mild in most cases the rest of Brazil). Sometimes we even have snow there (different from the rest of our country).

We have important (and really beautiful) cities there. With many immigrants.

Well, I'm from there, but since I got married, I live in Campinas, a big city near São Paulo - 1200km from Rio Grande do Sul.

Isn't a beautiful city, but has great opportunities to live and work.

Well, I miss my Rio Grande do Sul. For all beauty and people... But what can we do, right? :)

Great thread, Patti! :)

Already did a page about Porto Alegre, the city where I lived for so many years (Porto Alegre is the capital of Rio Grande do Sul)

the sunset:

I am loving this thread!!

Stacy - you're not too far from me :)

I live in Tampa, FL. We just moved here almost a month ago. I don't know a whole lot about the area except that there's a LOT to do around here, it's humid (which, oddly enough, I like. Reminds me of home.) and there's a huge pirate festival once a year.

This is downtown Tampa:

But I am a native of New England. Pittsfield, MA, to be exact.

Downtown_Pittsfield_1960s-1.JPG

It's a city that has seen better days. GE used to be huge there. There is a ton of great places nearby and it's a very outdoorsy place. The city has a really rich, interesting history. In 2004 a historical document was found that determined Pittsfield was the hometown of baseball - not Cooperstown, NY.

Cheryl, that walk out thingy would freak me out! I'm scared of heights and that is a long way down, I'd be thinking about all the people and how much weight was on it..lol!!

We went to Grand Canyon I believe it was in 2004. and they didnt have that walk out. I would never go on it too. Im so scared of heights. I didnt get to close to the edge. I was like maybe 2 feet from the railings..lol

wowwwwwwwwww it´s AWESOME!!!
yep :) Rubia and I are the same state - best place :)
love love everything here girls!

I lived in Germany for 3 years and I absolutely LOVED it! We were in the Hunsrick area! Gorgeous country!

i'm about 65 mi south of chicago in an itty bitty town (about 1400 people). i won't post pics of chicago because sarah already did LOL
this is the entrance to town (thank you google)
gardnersign.jpg

this water fountain is downtown and everyone LOVES it. it's been there since DH was a kid
gardner-il.jpg

these are the 'businesses'
GardnerILDowntown-600.jpg

the only other things in town are 3 bars, 2 gas stations, a bank and a post office. we don't even have our own police force LOL we just use the county cops.

the biggest thing around here is Rt. 66. It goes right through Gardner. The BIG thing is (well, used to be because it burned down), The Riviera. It was a bar/restaurant where Al Capone used to visit. There's stories about bodies being buried down by the river by it!
GardnerRiviera-600.jpg

you'll often hear me complaining about our small town and that it's TOO small (my dd has 18 kids in her 1st grade class), but in all reality, i love it. everyone knows each other and i never have to worry about my kids playing outside.
