This week I'm looking forward to... | pad patter 7.9.18

I'm looking forward to having friends over Wednesday afternoon to play mah jongg, ...

Ooooo - I can ask you!! I have only played on the computer. So when you play with real tiles are they put down randomly? Or do you set it up knowing it is winnable? Can you set up your own board?

On the computer I keep playing the same game over and over thinking I should be able to win, but sometimes it is not possible it seems. Curious minds want to know....

Real life mah jongg is nothing like the computer game. You play ideally with 4 players but can be with just 3. Each player has a long rack and builds a wall of tiles in front of their rack (19 tiles long by 2 tiles high). The dealer deals out 13 tiles to each player but herself. The dealer gets 14 tiles because she will start the play. During the play each player draws a tile and discards a tile to end their turn. Like in rummy, you can pick up a discard if you have the other tiles it goes with. The Chinese version is very similar to rummy - forming sets and runs of tiles. The American version of the game has set hands that you try to form during the course of play. Each year the hands change and you buy a new card of hands. Mah jongg in a nutshell. It's a lot of fun!

I am looking forward to learning what my new iPhone 10 camera can do. After many years with my old phone, I finally succumbed to a particularly good upgrade deal :) I am excited to be able to shoot photos in RAW format and edit them in Lightroom, even though my first brief forays into Lightroom have been super confusing!

A new phone and being able to edit in Lightroom is definitely something to look forward to. Make sure you check out Cheryl's lightroom summer school sessions from a year or so ago.

Ah, you have so many fun things to look forward to.

DD is going to culinary camp on Sunday and this was soo much fun for her last year. Some of the friends she made last year are coming back, so I am very excited for her. Other than that, picking blueberries and I might paint my oldest son's old bedroom that has become a junk room since he moved out 4 years ago. DD will help with it because she is lobbying to turn it into her art room (and auxiliary baking supply room). Hmmm, if I clean up the bonus room, which is also full of junk and my paper scrapping supplies, we could move my stuff in there too and the spare bed into the bonus room.... Then I might paper scrap again...

oh a culinary camp would be so fun and better yet if she'll cook for you when she gets home... YUM! I've got a couple of junk rooms to clean out too. My craft room has become the dumping ground for everything the kids don't want in their rooms so it'll take more than a weekend to clean that out. At this point, there's just a path through it and I'm glad I digital scrap in our office so I don't have to face cleaning the craft room just yet.... hehe

My birthday!!! (=
Well Happy Birthday! :stash I hope it's wonderful!

That is so awesome, Kayla!! I'm thrilled for you!!
And what great things everyone has to look forward to this week!!
This week, I'm looking forward to...hmmm reading a book!! I just finished one and I'm deciding on the next one to start! My deck, my coffee, my book! I haven't had enough time for that this summer. I'm also looking forward to getting a few projects around the house started.

oh reading a book, it's been so long since I've done that that I think I've forgotten how to read... hehe! Maybe someday things will settle down around here.

I'm looking forward to having friends over Wednesday afternoon to play mah jongg, relaxing over lunch at a friend's house on Friday, and hopefully being done with vacation planning this week! We leave on the 19th and I can't believe how much time it's taking to plan a 2+ week road trip.

That's sounds so fun! I love playing games and wish we would do that more often. Enjoy your friend time!

What wonderful mom moments for you @keepscrappin and @jenn mccabe (fantastic accomplishment!)
- 2 yrs Kayla?! i can't even imagine 1 week like @Tree City (although we have had the kids go overnight to the inlaws so we could DIY - yep we are those people too). I'm hoping not much happens this week, the car is in for service today so that'll cost enough LOL but DS's social life is keeping my phone buzzing. DH pulled out the breadmaker to use today and after about 10mins of 'is it meant to sound like that?', got out screwdrivers and all and now it's in several pieces, such is life with an engineer and the kitchen is a wreck, again, that's the only downside to staycations - the kitchens usually clean by this time of the day otherwise. Is your DS home for good now or just between postings?!

LOL... I'm the one at my house who tears things apart and fixes them. Hubby is a numbers guy and not too mechanically inclined. He said he got a degree so he could pay someone else to do the physical labor work. He hates it when I want to do a DIY project and need his muscles to help me get it done.

DS is finished with his mission but will be heading off to Brigham Young University the end of August. He is hoping to become a physical therapist or engineer. I know - 2 very different fields, but we all switch degrees until we find what fits us.

Cleaning my house is the one thing I'm not looking forward to this week... hehe! But since I'm the chief cook and bottle washer around here, that's on my to-do list. Hopefully, I can get my hubby and girls to help out a little more this week since we'll have company over.

I said that entirely wrong, Kayla. @keepscrappin I'm looking forward to the housecleaners cleaning my house on Friday. We have them every other Friday. I would definitely not be looking forward to cleaning it myself. Hahaha

That's so exciting Kayla! I can't imagine waiting that long for a hug for your kiddo! Also very awesome for your daughter @jenn mccabe !!!

This week I'm looking forward to Wednesday (tomorrow) we have our company picnic and it's a big huge fun day, especially for my boys. They look forward to it all year! It's carnival rides, food, smoothies, cotton candy, ice cream, games, prizes, bingo etc and it's all free and they can eat whatever they want and ride as many rides as they want all day long. Everyone comes home and crashes, but it's so much fun. :)

My daughter and nephew were in an ATV accident on Christmas Eve. She was wheelchair bound for months and was able to get rid of the wheelchair in May. We are taking her to Six Flags Magic Mountain on Friday as a way to celebrate her walking again. :happydance2

Oh my gosh!! this gave me super happy goosebumps! What an awesome thing to celebrate!

This week I am looking forward to greeting my son at the airport on Wednesday afternoon. He is returning from serving a 2-year LDS mission. I can't wait to see him and give him a great BIG HUG! I'm so excited that I can't hold it in any longer! Someone pinch me, I must be dreaming!

Now it's your turn, finish this sentence. This week I'm looking forward to...
oh how fabulous Kayla!!! Enjoy every minute of your reunion!!!

Oh my goodness! That is HUGE Kayla @keepscrappin - so excited for you!!!! Are you planning a special party for him?!

I'm looking forward (later today when she gets home) to hearing how my youngest liked her first full day at her first summer job (well any job really!). She got picked to be a part of a local Film Studio summer work program. I think there were 120 applicants but only 50 accepted. And only 3 people got their scripts for a short film picked. Hers was one of the scripts! She gets paid to learn how to produce a film! It's a dream come true and she can use the film (she's the writer and the director) for her college applications to film schools in the fall. I'm giddy with excitement for her!
How cool Jenn.. that is awesome and I wish your daughter much luck in her future too!

YAY! So glad she's doing better! What a great way to celebrate!
