Thought I'd post a little info about how I made this cute Haunted House decoration for Halloween. Click HERE for a super short video of the house with the lights twinkling inside. As soon as I saw these fabulous embellishments and papers by Paula Kesselring, I knew I was going to use the haunted house element for a hybrid project. I selected the haunted house, as well as a few other elements and put them all on one page to be printed and cut. I cut them with a Silhouette but of course, you can cut them with scissors too. I also printed out a page of the black and white striped paper to make the stand and base for the house. The rest was so simple. I just bent some of the striped paper into a C shape and glued the ends to the back side of the house to make a box. This serves as a stand, the "body" of the house, and a place to put a (flameless) candle. I made very simple paper stands for the figures by bending stips of paper into triangles and gluing then onto the back. I cut out the paper windows of the house because I wanted to see the candle-light through the windows. The light was a little too bright/white with just the empty windows, though, so I took some vellum, inked it a little with some brownish ink and taped the strips of vellum on the inside of the windows. The extra embellishments (bats, skeleton, lollipop, spider) are glued directly onto the house. Just drop in the flameless tea-light candles (from Amazon) inside of your house. Here's a photo of all the "ingredients". I love projects that have a lot of impact but are easy to make -- these embellishments are perfect to use "as is" and all work beautifully together. And making little seasonal decorations really helps get me in the spirit of the season! Here is the final product lit from behind with the candles a little bit of black light from above. Happy Haunting!
This is so cute! I love it with the black light! I need to figure out how to print and cut…I can never get it to work right!
It is nice if you have a lot to cut but sometimes it's honestly easier just to cut by hand since the whole machine print/cut can take a while.
Oh my gosh Dawn! This is fantastic! I love how you pull tape over the windows from behind too! So clever to stick a flameless candle behind the house to make it glow too! Love this!
Such a cute project @dawnmarch , but I can't see the end result with the lights. I think it is still in private gallery.
