Wow! Today marks the turning point for me - decision has been made and in just over a week I'm moving away from family and friends to be much, much closer to school (10-15 mins vs 2+ hours) but I'm terribly nervous about this step as its the first time in almost 29 years that I'll be away from home. I know it's the right and best thing to do now but it still scares me (as well as all the cleaning and packing I'll have to do between now and the 25th)

Jennifer ... that is a hard thing to do! Family, friends and the "known" is such a comfort so having to move away is definitely scary. But I think you made a good move ... with the demands of school ... being 2+ hours would have exhausted you! Did you always live that far from school all along?

Hope the cleaning and packing goes well ... look at it as a fresh start to get really organized! :) Good Luck!

I can understand you being scared, but how exciting too! And a great opportunity to meet new people! Good luck with your move!.

Not for my undergrad degree - I had a commute of just over an hour by bus or train but for my postgrad this year yes. Let's say on paper it looked far more doable but once bus a is late, then I'd miss bus b and have to wait an extra half hour etc to the point I was often gone for 14 hours then be dead the next morning. In the end I managed to get it down to 12 hour days but it wasn't much help.

Oh boy, Jennifer! Such a HUGE step, and one that made me nervous as well! I can't believe you travel that long every day.... think of how much time you will have back! Hoping it all goes smoothly! Hugs!

Time is one thing I'm looking forward to that's for sure - I'm lucky it wasn't everyday, if it was I wouldn't have done it.

That's what I thought: You'll have so much more time for yourself (or for schoolwork, etc) without that crazy travel!
Congrats on making this decision, and good luck with your move!

I hope the move all goes smoothly for you and you settle in well and enjoy the days ahead. May you do well in your studies.

It's a big step, but I have to think you've absolutely made the right choice! Lowering your stress level and eliminating all of those travel hours is going to help you enjoy and be successful at school that much more. What an exciting time!! I hope all goes very smoothly with the move and best wishes with this new journey at school too. {{hugs}}

I hope you have an easy time settling in and have fantastic neighbors!

From what I know it's a very quiet neighbourhood as its off a main road - basically unless you live in the neighbourhood there is no need to come down there. I do know my housemate seems very friendly and I'll have the house to myself during the day as she works. When I went down to see the house I just felt comfortable with the homeowner as she is a bit older (didn't want to be in a flat with 4 or 5 people who were 8 to 12 years younger than me with totally different interests) plus it was a really good deal as it is $650 per month incl expenses except for food and it included bedroom furniture whereas another place I looked at was $500 a month plus $260 estimated extra for expenses excluding food and I would have still needed to buy furniture for my bedroom.

Good for you for getting outside your comfort zone! After the initial scariness wears off, I bet you'll love it!

How exciting! Sounds like you've found a great place. Hope the transition goes smoothly and you enjoy the new arrangements. Good luck with the packing!

Girl I know you can do it. You have conquered so much already. And that house arrangement sounds like an open door to this decision. Congratulating you on making good choices and taking care of you!

@carilyne you said it best with this house, it was meant to be. It's actually quite funny, I wasn't really looking per say as I hadn't seen anything around the $650 a month mark incl expenses but the ad was so well written - no hidden surprises so I enquired about it, walked in the door two weeks later, looked around and said I accept

This sounds like such an exciting step but oh so hard to step outside our comfort zone. Good luck with the move and I hope you will be very happy with your decision!

That makes it even better, and that it was available two weeks later. Gives me the chills as i read about it and how it worked out. It sounds like such a good move for you. I can't imagine a two hour commute even on a bus. Congratulations.

Very exciting! It sure seems like it was meant to be and that everything is falling into place. I know it will be hard to move, but at least it is within visiting range. And I can just tell that you will spread your beautiful wings and soar onto new heights!!
