Shadow Styles

Carol, I'm interested in that opposite paper style. How did you make it? Or would you be willing to share it as an .asl file?

Kayla, I’m sure there are lots of ways to make reverse shadows but this is what I do. I’m using a template on my example.

1. Put the regular paper shadows on the template underneath the paper.

2. Create a new template copy underneath the template layer.

3. Add my reverse shadow to that layer. (see example B below) Basically I changed the angle about 90 degrees, lowered the opacity, distance, and size for my reverse style.

Here is an example of the layout without a reverse paper shadow style added.

I hope this helps.

I don't use any styles. I'm pse8 so I just use the shadows that came with that. Maybe I'd be surprised by using styles would be quicker? But it sound like if your already making changes to a designers styles are you really saving time? Asks the person who never used a shadow style.

I have my own style set I made and saved, so that even when I reset my styles I have them.

I'm drooling over Fiddle-Dee-Dee's shadows... hmmm... dare I spend a bit more money and change up all my shadows? I have a set I've been using for years, but hers includes 23 STYLES!!! That is a lot of variety, which I am always wanting!! It would definitely kill time as I'm waiting for THE POST from @AnneofAlamo .......

I am always Tempted to try styles but I guess I am stuck in my ways and prefere to do my own, mine are never the same as it depends if I add a light effect to the background paper determains the angle of my shadows.

I will get out of my box and try some different styles.... I will try I will try

Ohhh there are so many fab shadow styles here! I really need to check out Mommyish's styles as they look like exactly the type of shadows I prefer!

I have a couple of old, old, old sets that I go back and forth between a lot, because I do put them on their own layer and tweak the heck out of them lol. I've been wanting to try a new set and love all the ones here in the shop, just need to pick one or two and give it a go :)
I really need someone to tell me how to add the shadow on its own layer. I've tried to figure it out on my own, but have failed.

Are you in PS or PSE, Donna? I've forgotten.

You should be able to right click on the fx symbol for item that is shadowed and choose Create Layers.

Using the designer styles will definitely save you time and give you amazing shadows, but there's more than one way to do things digitally . That's the beauty of digi scrappin. Shadow the way that works for you. As long as your happy with your shadows that's all that matters. I use designer shadow styles because that's what works for me. 99.9% of the time I use Cheryl's Fiddle-Dee-Dee shadows as is. I've only started changing them up a bit for some of my paper layers after watching Cheryl scrap and getting her free paper warp action.

Yes, you dare spend a bit more.... THEY ARE WORTH IT! You won't regret it and you'll wonder how you ever scrapped without them!

When I updated to PS CC I also updated to the CC shadow styles from Mommyish. All the other ones just didn't seem right in CC. These ones I love. In CC you can use multiple shadows on layers which is why they look a lot more realistic then the "old" ones.

I don't alter shadow styles. I might add a stroke but other then that I use them as is.

I'm a 45* angle shadower- so I usually always alter designer shadows. It's really easy in CC- just double click the effects & you can fiddle with them to change the angles, make them more realistic, etc- I fiddle with everything! ;) I'm also a big warper & love being able to manipulate my shadows. I use a really old set of styles- but almost always break them down into layers & play around! I too love Leah's CC styles! So much more realistic! I also use a TON of Leah's styles on my layouts- it's the easiest way to make rockin' titles out of my favorite fonts! :)
