Project Life - shopping list?

Oh Laura! I love that your photos have rounded corners! Looks fantastic!
I can't wait to start my PL too. I really hope I'll be able to keep up with it. But reading your comments I think I'll definitely need to invest in a printer.

Cristina, I think I'll get the big variety pack as a start. BTW, Becky has post on her blog today about the supplies. http://www.beckyhiggins.com/blog/2011/10/top-faq-about-project-life/

I love that you all like the Clementine Edition! :beat Thank you! The Cobalt Edition is so beautiful too. I love the bold colors.

Thanks Lili! I am stalking her blog lately :giggle but wanted to hear the advice of who has been doing PL this year. I wasn't sure how far the core kit would go, so Laura's advice to get the blank journaling cards was really useful - I wasn't planning to get them, but now I will!

Wow Laura, that is fantastic! I have decided that I am going to do this. I am going to give it my best effort anyway. It looks so fun. I was going to go digi next year with P52 but I like the idea of doing a more hands on album.

Hello ladies! I am new to this forum, but can testify as yet another Project Life complete failure. I LOVE the concept, and I pretty much stalk Ali Edwards and Paislee Press' blogs to see their layouts each week, but I've found that printing the pictures is a HUGE obstacle for me. I am a printing snob, so at home printers won't cut it for me. I also can't stand glossy prints from the one hour target lab, so that means I have to send out for the matte prints. And there my friends is where it all ends. Pictures don't get printed, album doesn't get done.

I love the idea of trying the digital route this year using a simple template (love the link Lisa provided). I can then print out my layouts when Persnickity Prints has a sale and then still put them in a binder using the 12x12 page protectors. This will also give me the opportunity to still include any memorabilia in other page protectors as need be.

So that's my plan for next year. And if I get really ambitious, I might actually go back and try to finish out this year.

Hi Ami, welcome to the Pad! I too am afraid that not keeping up with picture printing will stall me, but I am going to try to keep up the journaling at the very least. It will be nice to have a real album to keep all the memorabilia in too.

Hi Amy - welcome to the Pad! I do understand what you mean about the prints because that's what stopped my P365 from being successful in previous years. This year, however, I decided to let go of that perfectionism because I decided that my kids/husband/friends are not going to look at my book and say, "Oh the horror! She has printed at home!" LOL I had to give myself permission to do it and be OK with it. I decided a printed a home version was much better than no album at all. I just couldn't stay current with the workflow when I sent the prints out. I was channeling my inner Mary Poppins in this "well begun is half way done" mentality. My family loves the album so much that the prints don't even bother me now. (You might also want to visit the Overachievers and Perfectionist Anonymous thread in the Chatty Pad. We feel your pain! LOL)

Haha Laura- you're totally on to me after one post! I am way too much of a perfectionist, which would be the reason why I frequently get overwhelmed with large projects like this and give up. You are right- I totally need to let it go and just get photos in an album. I really am the only one who notices that the photo processing is slightly greener (bluer, redder, etc) than it should be! I am really excited to try this project digitally though. Hopefully we can all support each other through this process and keep up with it!

Hi Amy! Welcome to the pad! so thrilled you're joining us... if you need support through something, this is most definitely the place to be!

I read your post about doing it digi, and thought of this post from earlier this year...https://the-lilypad.com/forums/showthread.php?11133-My-Project-Life

thought you might like to read through that for the discussion.

i personally am WAY behind on my P365 doing it digi. *sigh* i need to get my butt in gear so i'm somewhere CLOSE by the end of the year.

Oh, I really really want to do some form on Project Life next year. I think my main issue with the physical kit is the sheer size of the thing. I'd love to think that it's a way of keeping track in the longer term so I think I'd rather end up with a row of neat little photobooks rather than 3 shelves of huge albums. But they're so pretty! So I'm not entirely sure what to do... I think the printing would be a major block for me too. Ink cartridges are insanely expensive so I'd need to send out for them.

The first round of new products (page protectors) have arrived! I have made my purchase already! :happydance So excited to start this!

so i just place a big 'ole order LOL - i think i bought at least one of everything - plus a few extra of the large pockets and style A and C ... i want to go back through all my old photos and organize into 12x12 albums that match everything else i have ... i figured i'd start here and see where i get.

i'm still unsure about what i want to do for P365 next year - i'm leaning towards buying clementine in the digital format b/c i really hate my handwriting in this year's album LOL!

Breaking news! Did you guys see this announcement : http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/10/prweb8919825.htm

Can't wait to see the actual product offering. This may be the answer to all my prayers!

This is awesome news. I think this will be the route I go and print 12x12 and buy the new pocket pages from Becky to add memorabilia in. Then I have the best of both worlds. I definitely think this will help with my printing problem.

I got the big variety pack, G design, the envelopes and the Amber Core kit. I am going to reformulate my little one's baby book with the Amber edition and pull all of the digi pages together with her memorabilia.

I already have 6 x 12 - love that size! I am sure I will be ordering more blank cards at some point.

okay, i just purchased a box of the journaling cards and the mulit pack of page protectors. i'm sure i will end up wanting to get more, but i thought i'd do it a little bit at a time...

the cool thing though is that i was able to buy a SCRIP gift certificate to amazon to pay for it, so i was able to earn a bit of money toward our gymnastics booster fees just for shopping!! :yesss honestly, i think i'm going to do a lot of my Christmas shopping on amazon so I can earn $$ for gymnastics. plus then i don't have to go out and brave the stores. lol

Love the Clementine designs Lili! Those are my fave for sure. I just watched Becky's 5 minute video and I love the idea of simplifying. I am thinking the printing part would be the hardest if I can let go of the idea that I need to type all my journaling too. Do you girls hand write or type the journaling?

I've been doing Project Life this year since about April. I really love the process of picking out the photos and tucking my memorabilia into the pockets in the protectors. You can see all my Project Life related posts on my blog here.

For 2012 I am planning on doing Project Life with the physical kit again, even though I've been a digi-scrapper for years. I have many reasons, but the main one is I do tuck a lot of physical memorabilia into the pockets each week, and I can't do that digitally. Second reason is I love that when friends or family come over, I can just show them my book. They can see all our life documentation just sitting on the coffee table. One digi PL product that I AM planning on purchasing is the 3x4 journaling cards. The reason is I sometimes type my journaling on the computer in Photoshop, then print them out onto the physical PL journaling cards. If I have the digital versions as a template, I will know for sure which design areas to avoid typing onto. My printouts onto my physical PL journal cards will be even better now!

As for the plastics... I do have a a bunch of different configurations of We R Memory Keepers 12x12 page protectors that I purchased this year already. But the Becky Higgins Design A protectors are a must-have for this project if you want to use the core kit. Design A is what I find I use the most, as the default page protector for my PL this year. The reason is, the 3x4 journal cards fit in there. I bought the large pack of Design A for 2012. I love using the 3x4 journaling cards and the Design A page protector is the only one that fits 8 of those journaling cards across the week. That's my default configuration for my weekly pages. If I have extra photos or memorabilia, I will use another one of my various page protectors to supplement. But I never stray from Design A. Also because most of my photos are landscape-oriented and not portrait-oriented.

As for photo printing, I have two strategies. If you actually are able to keep up with PL weekly, then you really do need a printer at home to print the photos, it's the easiest and most convenient. But if you fall behind at all, it will become a big chore to print them all out at home. When I fall behind and need to print 3-4 weeks of photos that I picked out, I will just upload them all and pick up at Costco.

Those are my main thoughts on doing PL this year. Plan to catch up this Thanksgiving weekend. I'll also be doing a blog post soon on why I'm still going to do PL with the physical products, and how the digi products could complement that.
