Have you ever lost yours? How did it work out?

We went to PA this past weekend, and when canoeing, I realized my phone must have gone swimming! It it pry at the bottom of the Delaware river somewhere with the fish!

It was in a zip lock, had my license, one credit card, and my debit card. I've been working on it. I've already replaced my phone, and debit card. License is this afternoon's chore. I was so happy how easy it was to get my new phone to be exactly like my old phone! I only lost pictures from Saturday morning. I think the worst part was that I didn't get to take pictures of our weekend from my POV! I will have at least some pics from our canoeing trip from family and friends!

It could have been worse... imagine if my phone hadn't backed up to the cloud! Eeek! I upload them to SmugMug and my computer pretty often, but I would have lost at least a good chunk of this month's pictures. This is one way I'm glad my iPhone is my main camera now, even though the pics on my big camera are clearer. So... I'm happy I only lost one day of photos and one weekend of me taking photos!

PS... Besides this, canoeing was fun! I prefer the rafting on the rapids, but this was calm and fun with friends. We even had a Redneck Yacht Club! So fun!

:cry <---- This would be my reaction. And reading your story raised my heart rate.

I'm backed up too. But we can't afford to replace our phones; that would be my problem.

I wish my daughters would back up their phones. Maybe they have to learn the hard way. But I cringe, thinking of all those photos on their phones that could be lost. They might be less sentimental than I am. I do ask for copies of some of the photos occasionally for myself, and I'm always making screenshots of my daughter's instagram (Rhiannon. Caroline doesn't do social media.)

Glad you had friends/family taking photos too and good luck at the DMV! Silver lining maybe is getting an updated photo. I was thinking about that last time I had my license out. My hair is still shoulder length on my license. :P

Uh oh! I have visions of mine going overboard on the Mississippi...

I dropped my license in a bar in Chicago once. I thought I heard something drop in the bathroom, but I didn't see anything when I looked on the floor :( It was easy enough to replace. I think that probably would have been better off in a river though- it wasn't returned, someone probably has themselves a nice new over 21 persona.

I back everything up to icloud and photos to flickr. So I wouldn't lose a lot of that stuff, but a new phone is sooo expensive and I'm cheap!

Well, I don't carry around a cell phone, GASP! DH and I share a little flip Tracfone. It sits in the car and we use it in emergencies or a call to a restaurant for carry-out. LOL

Jenn, so glad that you have things under control and are looking at the bright side of things. Yes, it could have been worse. And it sounds like you had a fantastic weekend. :-)

@jk703 So sorry you lost your phone in the river, but glad for the most part everything was backed up and you can replace the license an credit card. I would not be happy to have to replace the phone.

I need a new one (mine is iPhone 5 and keeps crashing so I have had to take off a lot of the apps I had on there to help with the crashing - it hates FB and Messenger!- I am waiting until September when the newer iPhones come out so I can get the iPhone 8 Plus for $100 off... I now move off my photos on to my external hard drive but I would have been beside myself.

Glad you still had a good time canoeing.. you never know someone fishing may one day call you as they "Caught" your bag with phone and cards :)

Awww, I'd be so sad to lose all that stuff too - I agree on replacing the phone, ouch they are SO expensive. I hold out as long as I can with my iPhones and only upgrade when they become dinosaurs. Sorry you lost the morning's photos - but happy everything was backed up and that friends and family have photos to share with you. It sounds like such a fun trip Jenn. Good luck at DMV!

Thanks everyone! I realized I forgot to say my old phone was approx 3 years old, so it was a little glitchy, but I was going to hold out until December... since it could have been used to upgrade my oldest's phone! Oh well. I keep telling myself it would be worse.

And I know for a fact, I couldn't hold out on getting a phone. I use it too much... banking, amazon, team sports stuff, kid tracking, kid phone control, photos, and reading. NO READING? Not possible. I wouldn't be able to handle it if I couldn't replace it! That would make me go into withdrawal! :giggle I was able to handle the day and a half with no phone calmly, lol! :giggle

Glad you had a fun trip, Jenn, but what a hassle to replace all of your cards + losing your phone! I still have my iPhone 7 and it's performing like a champ, but I'll get an 8 one of these days. I'm eligible for an upgrade right now. I don't think I want the 10 - I'm not crazy about the facial recognition feature. One thing I did when I upgraded to the 7 was get a 128 G phone. Honestly, I haven't had a problem with it freezing from taking too many pictures. I was going to get the 256G and the guy at the phone store said that 128G was plenty. If you go to more G's, of course, the price of the phone goes up. I'm so glad I did that, though. My phone automatically backs up to the Cloud + I pay 99 cents a month for 50G on the cloud.

:no2 Oh No i'm so sorry . .

I once went for a pee in a department store while hubby took the kids off somewhere, I am sure all the mums can relate here, I sat down and breathed a sigh of relief, had my pee, and caught up on my facebook and emails and what not LOL put my phone on top of the toilet roll dispenser, did my pleasantries, washed hands etc. and left the bathroom and yup left my phone on top of the toilet roll dispenser fully unlocked . . Left the department store and walked 15 mins to the train station. Got to the train station and thought hmmm my jeans feel a little light, patted my back pockets and thought MY PHONE !! Needless to say I ran all the way back to the department store boobs swinging left right and centre and looked a hot mess by the time I got there but it was still there. :jumpey

Roll forward two years and we took Keaton to Thomas Land at our local theme park, I nipped to the family room to feed Mackenzie, and afterwards needed the toilet but the only one that was free was a childs toilet so I had to squat extra low and i totally forgot my phone was in my back pocket . . pulled down my jeans and yup splash and dunk . . !!!! GROSS

Soooo I do not have much luck with public toilet areas :moon:lmao This time my phone did not recover and my very kind and sweet hubby bought me a brand new one :hide

Ooopsie!! So sorry about the phone, but glad you were able to replace it quickly!! I have never lost one *knock wood*, but I have had a couple of instances of the back pocket/toilet dunk. Both times I was able to get it back to working with the old rice trick, but some features were not the same after. I keep very few photos actually on my phone...I have the sync to Google Photos all the time and then I will plug it up and transfer them to my computer pretty regularly as well.

But it sounds like you had a great trip!!

Back before phones, I sent a pager swimming in the toilet. Fortunately it was after it was flushed, as I had to fish it out.
Yup - back pocket thing with my phone too - again after I had flushed.... Rice fixed it up.
DH took his down a ride at the water park - no amount rice fixed that one.

Having older "kids" is great -- they went together and got me a new phone for my birthday. My old one went to DH who finally gave up his flip phone.

I’ve lost a phone on the way home from shopping.....never did find it though I did check around where I got off the bus as soon as I realised. I’ve actually been lucky with my current phone - had it since Feb 2016 and while it’s not the latest iphone (5s) it is way better than anything else I have had.

Bus cards on the other hand, I’ve lost a few over the years and they are a real pain to sort out. The card replacement is the easy bit, getting my concession and credit transferred over is an entirely different matter.

We have not lost any but I have terrible luck with dropping mine. Luckily I have just broken the glass screen cover and not the actually phone. I love the Icloud for my photos which then download to my computer. I also back up to shutterfly/google photos (yep 3 places to store photos) and then my computer backs up to backblaze so I think I am good on protection for my photo.

My hubby dropped his phone in the sink and unfortunately the rice would not fix that one.

omgoodness @Rachel Jefferies those are some funny stories! I did the leave behind thing but it was a shopping cart, and I realized as I was about 5 min away, and turned back to luckily find it in the same spot!

I'm not going to jinx myself but all you people who have played roulette with the phones and toilets crack me up! So many out of the back pockets!

OMG Jenn! I started reading your post and my first thought is "She lost her phone. That stinks!" but then I keep reading and you've lost your license and everything else. That TOTALLY stinks. It's oddly exposing to lose those things, esp. when we're so used to having it with us all. the. time. (As some of those toilet stories prove rofl!)

Anyway, I hope everything gets replaced asap. And I hope you buy yourself a sassy little fanny pack to keep your ziploc baggie in next time. :giggle

Nice, Jenn! I have one (not the exact one, but same idea) and I got one of those marine key floats people use for boat keys. Well, I asked my dad for one of his. :) IDK if it's strong enough to hold actual float the phone bag but I hope so!

I am another that has never lost their phone *knock on wood*. I have also never had it drop into water anywhere... Probably because I never carry it in the back pocket of anything. When I go anywhere it is in the purse. When I take a walk I might take it and I might not. If I do, it is in a front pocket. And, if it is in that pocket and I go to the restroom, I take the phone out of the pocket first. But that would never be in a public restroom as the phone is in the purse at those times.

I have an old phone (Galaxy S5) and have been thinking about upgrading since December. This one still works for what I need most of the time (phone and texts) so I haven't upgraded. The few photos I take with the phone are automatically uploaded to Dropbox as soon as I am within range of my wifi.

My life would go on if I did lose my phone (although no one could reach me until I had a replacement) but more concerning to me is losing any ID. I panicked once when I thought I lost my drivers license. Then I remembered that it might have dropped out of my pocket at work and that was the longest night until I could get to work the next day and look for it. It was where I thought it would be. (I used to go to a gym and would put my license in my coat jacket so I didn't have to take a purse... I forgot to move it back to my purse when I got home).
