Pad Patter 9/3: sewing?

I cannot sew at all. Ever.

I got a C in 7th grade sewing for not finishing my sweatpants by the end of the semester. :hissy:giggle

You need a tshirt that has this on the front. I'm sorry your sewing teacher was not more supportive but thank you for giving me a good giggle tonight.

Amber, it's mostly girl patterns (babies, toddlers and young girls) but there are a few boy patterns, too. I think the max size is 6. Thanks for the tips!

Totally agreed. Classes are great and so is You Tube. I get almost all my patterns from Sew Sweet patterns and they're designed with the beginner seamstress in mind. Great step-by-step photos. Once you finish that first project you feel like you can conquer the world! Plus Laura, oh my gosh machines are SO much easier to use than they were when we were in middle school-- believe me. Felt like torture then but it's almost completely joyful now. Only problem for me was that sewing became a new hobby and began to compete with photography, scrapbooking, etc. When you add teaching and mothering it is really hard to juggle sometimes.

Good to know! I will definitely have to check this out! I just started getting into sewing. I can do some pillows and rag quilts. I would love to make a real quilt (you know the kind that aren't raggedy :giggle) I even made a cute sewing machine cover that I found online. :)

I can sew enough to get by... I would love to have learned how to do more. My Mom, Grandma and Aunt can do such wonderful things... but I didn't really care enough when I was young to learn and now I live to far away for their help. My Aunt once made all the doll furniture for my cousin's homemade barbie house... she made me a barbie couch too... it was amazing! I've made little things that only require straight stitching... like draw-string bags once for a trip we were going on. I totally wish I could make clothes and quilts.

Hubby brought me a Singer for Christmas one year and I'm sure he's used it more than me... he uses it all the time to sew the patches and stuff on for his uniform.

I really would love to know how to sew more than a button! My mom is a whiz at the sewing machine, but she's never been able to teach me. I did make these cute little critters using American Girl kits! LOL! It breaks my heart to look at this page because I worked so hard on these for my nieces and recently found out my SIL tossed them. :( I'm glad I scrapped them though.

You gals are fantastic!

I *want* to sew, and my poor mom tried to teach me as a teenager, but I just kind of stink at it. And at this point, I barely have time to scrap anymore much less pick up a new hobby!

Wow - such amazing inspiration in here. I love, love the clothes! I wish I had a wittle girl to sew for. I don't do much with clothes, etc. For me, clothing is harder than quilting. But, I learned to quilt first and then tried clothing so....yea. I have made tons of handbags, totes, etc. I mostly make quilts. Anything from a table topper or mini wall hanging to king size quilts. I have made over 70 quilts and been doing it for 15 years. I am completely self taught and even owned a 2100 sq. foot quilt store where we sold the "makings" for quilts and had a Pfaff dealership for 3 1/2 years. It was awesome in lots of ways but like everything else - once you make your hobby your job it isn't as fun anymore. We closed it in 2006.

Here are a few of the things I have made.

This is the one that is "in the works" for my grandson right now:

And the one I made him for his first bday:

and a picture of where I sew:

In this picture...the shelf on the bottom....the two stacks on the far left are quilts I need to quilt. Tops are completely done. Just waiting......there are about 20. LOL Scrapping has made me fall a little behind.

I only have about 150 quilt kits in my studio waiting for me to create them. LOL

I have a thread problem. There are 2 more racks on the floor that need to be hung and I have a bin full as well. One of the benefits of owning a store - when it closed, I took one of every color! hee hee
