Pad Patter 9/3: sewing?

Liana, that little kimono jacket is to DIE FOR! You are really talented! (multi-talented)! It has to be fun to sew for a little cutie!

Oh goodness the projects posted in this thread are SO fantastic!! :beat

That's how I *want* to sew. The reality is up until very recently I couldn't even sew a button on my pants. I have been dabbling more in embroidery kinds of things and in using my sewing machine...but she and I are still not BFFs. I hope to get loads better. Would LOVE to be able to craft and create beautiful sewing related things.

i can sew a staright line on a machine,i can sew on a button and badge but thats as far as my skills go,im just not interested lol

Wow, Anne that set is amazing!! I love the colors!! That's like right out of Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn but better!!! (did I use enough exclamation marks?)

'nother self-taught sewist here. Spent today sewing in fact, and nearly sliced off my finger tip using the rotary cutter today ouch. I do all kinds of kid's clothes. sewed all the clothes for our trip to disney land this summer too...in a week. :P I've done some home improvement things but no quilting.

what amazes me most, is that you can sew ANYTHING! working on DD's birthday and made her a mini top hat:

sorry for the bad instagram shots, I haven't gotten around to taking proper photos of anything in weeks...

OMG Anne! That's amazing! Wow the quilting work is unbelievable!! And I love the colors. You are my new hero!

I LOVE this thread - we have some amazing multi-talented peeps here at the pad! I just love looking at all these creations!

I don't sew... I'd like to learn but I can't start something new like that unless I feel like I can devote a lot of time to it - which won't be the case for SEVERAL more years.

ha! thanks :) I'm self-taught: library books and u-tube. It's not hard if you can follow directions.

I can sew a button and even a hole in a stuff animals or shirt....that's the extent of my sewing ability!!

Looking at all of these great pics has made me feel very jealous...but also very inspired. I do not know how to sew, but I REALLY wish I could. I know I would love it. I had a very bad run in with a sewing machine in middle school and have been intimidated by them ever since. My mom even gave me one of her machines last year. It sits in my studio and mocks me regularly. I need to take a class or something!

Wow Anne! I'm always in awe of quilters - it takes a lot more patience and skill than clothing!! Amazing!

you totally should take a class! Do it with a friend if you need the extra push :) Or just start with some really simple projects and learn as you go.

Totally agreed. Classes are great and so is You Tube. I get almost all my patterns from Sew Sweet patterns and they're designed with the beginner seamstress in mind. Great step-by-step photos. Once you finish that first project you feel like you can conquer the world! Plus Laura, oh my gosh machines are SO much easier to use than they were when we were in middle school-- believe me. Felt like torture then but it's almost completely joyful now. Only problem for me was that sewing became a new hobby and began to compete with photography, scrapbooking, etc. When you add teaching and mothering it is really hard to juggle sometimes.

Laura, I agree with Liana, although they didn't teach us on a sewing machine when I was in school! just buttons. however, sewing machines are soooo easy to use and anything - i mean ANYTHING you want to learn how to do? There's a video online! ha ha!! Liana, I'll have to check out Sew Sweet, is it just girls and just little ones? Or do they have boy and big girl patterns too? I love farbenmix and Ottobre, but Farbenmix isn't any good if you don't speak German, or are a beginner. :P

Wow - there's some talent in this thread!!

I've wanted to learn how to sew. My mom and grandmother are both amazing with the sewing machine. I just haven't sat down to really learn. And at this point - I really don't have time for another hobby! But I will definitely learn at some point...

I learned to quilt by taking the quilting 101 class at JoAnn's. It was fun! My quilt was nothing like Anne's, though. lol

You ladies are so talented! I wish I could sew that well. I wanted to learn when I was younger, but the only thing I mastered is hemming my pants/skirts (because I am so short)...lol! I am not sure I have the patience to do more than that.

Wow! You guys are some seriously amazing seamstresses! I can make a pillow or bean bag. That's about it.
