Happy November everyone!

Since it’s the beginning of a new month I thought it’d be fun to chat about November.

What are your typical activities in November?
Anything you do this time of year that’s different than the rest of the year?
Any special November celebrations?

November is the first month that I don’t have to mow the lawn so that’s a highlight for me. It’s also the month our trees lose their leaves so I’ll be raking and bagging leaves.

November is also the start of my daughter’s basketball season. I’m waiting to see if they need me to coach or not (fingers crossed I don’t have to).

Last but not least, we celebrate Thanksgiving this month. So far the plan is to gather with my side of the family at my mom’s or sister’s on Thanksgiving day. I will be making the homemade pies my kids like - strawberry and cherry.

Nov is full of birthdays for us in our family. Today is Alex's birthday! she is coming into town tonight to celebrate for a few days. It is her big 21st! I am spending tomorrow with her and so excited to talk baby stuff and make her a big Indian dinner.

Eric's birthday is the 22nd.. he plans to take the whole week of thankgiving off to celebratee.. *L*. not sure what we have planned yet
my dad's is the 23rd..

my cousin's oldest in the 22nd also.. and than my cousin is the 30th and my grandfather's was the 27th (he is celebrating in heaven).. so yeah lots of birthdays for us

otherwise the month is full of avoiding cold weather and getting ready for burtal wisconsin winters ahead

Thanksgiving we will celebrate at Eric's aunts with his side.. it is kinda a tradtion.. and I am looking forwward to it
they make the best rice casserole dish I haven't had anywhere else and his moms chocolate pie is out of this world.. I just can't explain it

That’s a lot of birthdays Kari! I hope you enjoy all the celebrating. Now I want some Indian food and chocolate pie! ;)

No special things happening this month at least at the moment for me. Just a regular ol' routine....whether I have much of a routine is debatable but that's another story!
I hope you enjoy your regular routine Jennifer. :)

My birthday is tomorrow, so that kicks off November for us :)
My grandson is playing basketball, so we are doing a lot of running to those games.
This weekend I'm hoping to get the leaves in the yard cleaned up and the Halloween decorations put away so that we can get ready for the Christmas decorations.
Then I guess we'll start Thanksgiving prep and shopping! Not sure what the plan is for Thanksgiving this year, but I vote low key lol

We have Guy Fawkes day on the 5th November, which basically just means fireworks now-a-days.

A common November activity in my house is Christmas card making.

Happy early birthday Jan! It sounds like your November is like mine - leaves, basketball and Thanksgiving! ;)

I've heard about Guy Fawkes day but I've never celebrated it. I hope you enjoy the fireworks and Christmas card making.

November is kind of a placeholder month for me, in between the October holidays of Canadian Thanksgiving & Halloween, and the December holidays of Christmas & Boxing Day (and I also have a December birthday). Nothing special or exciting coming up for me in November. The weather's about to turn cold, but I'm trying not to think about that.

I hope it stays warm for you Mary Kate! Now I'm wondering if Canadians decorate for Christmas right after Halloween because they don't have Thanksgiving in between like Americans do.

Great question! In general, I would say no. But: I have noticed a trend these past few years of people putting up Christmas decorations earlier and earlier (though maybe not right after Halloween!), and also leaving them up later and later.

My mother had a rule: no Christmas stuff (no music, no tree, no decorations) before the 1st of December, and no Christmas stuff after the 6th of January (Feast of the Epiphany); and I have always followed that rule. That said, with all we've been through these past few years, I'm totally onboard with people starting the celebrations early, or extending the celebrations into the next month, or what have you. A jack-'o-lantern in early September? the Christmas lights still up in late April? If it brings you joy, if it brings you comfort: why not?!

First week of November, my youngest kid is turning 17. Second week, I'm making sure to VOTE and then my second kid turns 20. Third week, I turn 52 the day before Thanksgiving. The highlight of Thanksgiving for me is going around the dinner table, each one of us talking about things for which we are grateful. Last year my 16 year old prepared a whole hilarious skit about how much he appreciates bread. It will be hard to top that!

I'm also looking forward to fall break from my job. It's the entire week of Thanksgiving. School is too much!

I think your mother's rule is reasonable. My personal rule is no Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving (last Thursday in November) and no Christmas stuff after December 25. I'm okay with people doing whatever they want though.

I hope you enjoy all the birthdays and your week off Michele. I love that there was an entire skit about bread!

The biggest thing in November for us is Thanksgiving at the end of the month. I also start to think about Christmas shopping a little bit, but it's usually best if I wait until closer to Christmas before I start actually buying anything, otherwise my kids end up thinking of other things they want and I spend too much money. :giggle

Leaves are closer to being done falling, so that yard work gets finished up. Mostly it's just dark all the time, so we do a lot more indoor activities and watch more TV than usual. Lol.

Am not enjoying the cooler/colder weather or the shorter days. Since Chase graduated from high school in June my kid/GK sports days are over ... well at least until I have great-grandkids playing. First great-grandbaby was born on the first ... he's a bonus grandson (bonus (step) granddaughter's baby) ... and unfortunately they live on the west coast, while I'm here on the east coast.

My granddaughter's birthday (27th) is next week, as is Election Day. My front lawn needs mowing. My backyard is mostly low-growing "creeper" so I'm done mowing it since I've decided to let the leaves alone b/c they are firefly habitat. And of course, Thanksgiving. I assume will be going to my sister's as usual. I'll bring candied sweet potatoes and maybe an appetizer. I've started my Christmas shopping.

In Sweden, this weekend is a time for remembering the ones no longer with us. We decorate and light candles on the graves. It’s so beautiful to visit the cemetery at the evenings when there are so many lights. Next Sunday is Father’s Day here, my hubby won’t be home so we won’t celebrate it much. Last week of November usually means we put up our Christmas window lights as a first part of the Christmas decorations.
