January 8: MOC Technique Challenge

I really hope you can tell that I did the masking, blending and layers. I ended up with 9 layers and that included making a background paper onto another. I am so glad I learned this, now I don't have to go searching for actual "photo masks" any more! lol I had so much fun.
If you can't tell, I will do another, but I am nut sure I can carve 3 hours out of my life again. hahahaha!

Here's mine:

Thanks for this challenge! I really enjoyed making the masks and trying to blend the layers. I think I should have chosen a photo with more stillness, though because it is hard to tell that the blending was so intricate. Either way, I love how it turned out and I am going to use it for the album cover, I think!

Huggles!!

I have never tried this technique with a photo - it was so much fun! Thank you so much for the tutorial, definitely keeping this in my stash of ideas for the future. I loved it. There were some painted/watercolor flowers in the kit - I hope it was okay to use those in the photo.

@jk703 Fabulous challenge! I had so much fun playing with paint, masks, layers, and blending modes. Great instructions and hints too.

Guys, you've outdone yourselves! They are all wonderful - perfection! Well done. I've never had a technique go over so well, and so easily! I'll be leaving love this week!

Does anyone want to share more details on how you accomplished this? Did you resize each mask and place them in different locations under your photo? I didn’t think of that until my 5th layer. So after just a couple of layers my photo looked just like it did at the start, not beautifully varied layers. Even when I had played around with blend modes.

Probably I just have to play more. But if you have any advice to share about this technique, I’d be grateful! I’ve always loved photo masks and use them frequently. Can’t believe it never occurred to me to layer them.

I rotate and resize to fit the photo. Also, I duplicate the photo, so that each mask/paint has their own photo copy clipped to them. Then it's just a matter of trial and error. Redo, redo, redo, til you're happy. I try different blend modes and opacity and decide which I like the most. Basically I try to do a solid looking blending on the parts I want to high light, and the outer edges a bit more transparent. I'm not 100% sure, but I think I had about 7-8 masks and paints. Also: I use a soft edge brush with the eraser tool and erase bits I don't want to keep on the masks/paints if I want bits of the photo not show.
