January 5: Embracing Imperfection (Photography Challenge)

Thanks for the challenge. It motivated me to use these bad photos from a couple days ago to help tell a story I wanted to document. My imperfect photo is on the top right where I took a picture of my own finger by mistake plus all the others because I could not get rid of my reflection in the mug. Here's mine:

With four pups, trying to take a group shot is almost impossible. And yet, if you take enough photos you're bound to get one good one of each pup - then give up the group shot and settle for cropped closeups! Each of the cropped pictures is taken from one of the "failed" group pictures.

Great challenge :) I have tons of imperfect photos. This one was on the last ride of the Thunder Road roller coaster before they shut it down for good. So pair a bad angle in to the sun with a shaky coaster and others trying to capture the moment...

Great challenge, I had a lot of pictures to choose from. I choose this one because it has a special meaning for me in this time of the year.
It's imperfect because it's dark and blurry

This is my original picture, I played with clarity and contrast, I sharpened it a bit and added a vignette in he corners

So all of these pictures were terrible. There are reflections in the windows and weird angles of the photos of the action above us. The story was worth telling though, so I used them all. I cleaned them up as much as I could and tried to zoom in on the skating ones to eliminate some of the heads and hands with cameras/phones!

Embracing imperfection - my original photo has a very distracting background. In my gallery, I've shared the original as well as my layout.

Here's mine. The background on these was really busy. I should have asked my hubby to move. To help solve the problem I cropped close then darkened the background. Thanks for the great challenge!

* The photo was taken at the restaurant with poor lighting, but since it's what I've got I'm using it. I sharpened it a bit and cropped off the table full of food. *

Here's my imperfect layout. We had red eye/zombie eyes so I tried to add some filters and a halftone clipping mask to make the problems a little less noticeable.

Wow, I'm loving seeing these "imperfect" photos. Everyone is doing wonderful things with them!

I used a blurry, not well framed photo with terrible colors (grey from the cement, oranges and yellows from the lights, lots of black and a little purple color in the sky) and converted it to black and white with high contrast.

I love that this challenge made me scrap this photo and story. I probably wouldn't have otherwise...

Since I've been using mostly my phone for all my photos for about a year now, most of them aren't that great, but they capture my memories and that is what I value. None of these pictures had a great composition and had clutter all over, were dark and had uneven horizons... but a little brightening, a little cropping and some straightening, plus making them smaller on my page... makes a decent layout. :) Also, it's always good to pile on pretty elements to look at too! :)

These pictures were taken at a tumbling "exhibition" for my 18 month old grands. I did not notice that the pictures were coming out so badly! I think my husband said that our camera was put in "aperture priority" or something - anyway, the shutter speed was WAY too slow. But there just wasn't time to check and see how the pictures were coming out. I am not sure if you can tell in this thumbnail, but there are several images on top of each other (not sure what to call that) and out of focus.

I had a sweet photo of my granddaughters that had a cluttered messy background as she was getting ready in a classroom. I adjusted levels and cropped one copy of the photo. I used another copy and blended it into the background and extracted the girls.

I love this challenge!! So, for my photo, it wasn't quite in focus to I sharpened it a bit. But more obviously, it's of Roxy's butt - not her most flattering side, but she's just too dang quick for me sometimes!
