Anyone else working on taxes this weekend? Every year I dread doing them because every year I forget the annoying details that I figured out how to do the year before. :badputer

Haha I actually really like doing my taxes because we usually get a refund (childcare costs!). If that ever changes where we have to start to pay ... then I won't like doing them lol

Not yet, ours won't come through here until June through August. I usually get a refund or have a tiny amount to pay (that normally gets written off anyway) so like @tjscraps, I think I will hate doing taxes when I actually owe money.....

At least I am not taking care of my grandmothers income tax (that's a job for my Aunt & Uncle who have Power of Attorney on her affairs).....that is an absolute nightmare and has been for years. Due to the reciprocal social insurance agreement that New Zealand has....she gets a pension from New Zealand (with tax deducted at source), a partial Canadian pension (with tax that isn't deducted at source) and because she lived in Australia she also gets a partial pension from there too. To add to this tax mess, she also has an investment property with tax obligations as well

I was dreading it because I had completed a house sale and I had to dig out that paperwork. Well, it ended up not taking very long at all. I worked on the house stuff with the IRS publication up, and then filled everything out in Turbotax the next day. I finished early this past week. My daughter is moving and I thought she might need some help so I needed to just get it done. Turns out I was worried for nothing. But I procrastinate every year.

DH did ours last month. He always has me digging up numbers for him, which is tedious but not awful. Currently I'm trying to figure out exactly what to do about my mom's final taxes (she passed away in February last year). I've figured out that since it was such a small part of the year, there isn't enough income to require me to file. Now I just need to figure out if there is actually a refund due to make it worth it to go ahead and file anyway. If so, then I have to figure out the legal stuff about filing as executor. :dizzy

I got my small refund on Thursday.

Since Dad passed away and I inherited his investments, I have had a CPA prepare mine. I had worked for this CPA in the 90's and had prepared taxes. But I was never comfortable with the investments that are federal or tax exempt... mainly figuring out how much is exempt (laws have also changed a lot since then)! And, Dad's investments have some of that. The investments are worth keeping though because of the monthly interest I receive from them. 2022 was also the first year I was on SS so that had to be taken into account. He also does the projections for the next year.

After a couple of years with unusual situations for my taxes, I seem to be in a good spot. I didn't even meet with him this year, just dropped them off and they had them done in 2 weeks.

He was also a big help to me with filing Dad's taxes when he died and when I received a couple of letters from the IRS for Dad, he helped me figure out what was going on. Turns out he had overpaid taxes several years earlier and the IRS had made the adjustment, sending a refund for the small amount.

I hated having to deal with IRS stuff when I worked for the CPA firm, so I'm very willing to pay them to do it just in case something is wrong on the return.

We finished our on Friday. Mine was a bit tricky this year with state taxes. Started in Texas which has no state tax and ended up in Missouri which does...but in MO, my only income is my retirement pay which MO does not tax. But, since Don and I file together, and he was in MO the whole time, it was tricky.

Yes! It's this kind of thing that we spend a ton of time trying to remember how to do every year -- given the tiny size of the investment, it's ridiculous.

I wanted to get mine done this week but we are just not going to have time b/c we're getting ready for our holiday. We'll do it when we get back in May and I'll have to pay a small penalty but not much so it's worth it to be a bit late and not stress about it finding time right now. If I was on the ball, I should have done it last month.

We do ours early because we always get a refund. I think they were done in February this year? I always remember tax day because it's my friend's birthday. :) Good luck to everyone working on them right now!

We get a refund too but somehow we still can't bring ourselves to do them early. :D

we did ours a few weekends ago... not the most awesome way to spend a weekend, but a necessary evil i guess. my son, however, has put it off and now finds himself working on them this weekend. uggh. not fun. he was self-employed in 2022, so he has to keep all the extra documentation and paperwork and whatnot. he's learning quickly that adulting is full of lots of less-than-fun stuff! LOL

Am I the only one who procrastinates even though they always get a refund? lol I use Tax Cut so it's usually not even hard. Now 2021 was a bit of a nightmare cause we played with crypto and the crypto wallet I used did not make things easy. (David used a different one and his was tedious entry but easy.) But we'll be back to easy this year. Yet, I still need to do them. Once upon a time, I used to like doing it. I even helped friends in college and did my mom's taxes for her. Now I hate it.

You are definitely not the only procrastinator!

I’d go ahead and file a final return for your mom. If nothing else the IRS will have it. My granddaughter didn’t work in 2022 or have any interest or dividends payable, but I going to file a return for her.

I need to finish up mine and my daughter’s taxes this week. We are both due refunds. And I’ll still waiting for my grandson to provide me with two W-2s. <sigh>

We talked about doing taxes yesterday, but then didn't do them. Whoops! My hubby has them started and mostly finished on Turbo Tax, so we just need to finish up and press send.

LOL, I wish I had a dollar for every time after Jan 1 that I think about taxes and then don't actually do them. Then I could afford someone to do my taxes for me. :D
