Each filter you do seperately... with it as a smart object it will allow the filter layers (similar to multiple styles would be) .. do the filter gallery with dry brush and close then go back to filter gallery and do the cut out and close then do the filter blur and close then do the find edge and close. this will show all the filters in the layer panel under the smart object. (click on my photo to make it larger so you can see it better) See the circled blue inside the red of the filter gallery on the right in the layer panel.. you click on that and it opens up the little window where you can change the blend mode. You have to do each thing seperately. This is the filter gallery with the cutout effect. (my photo is from unplash too) Find edge: Filter Blur> Smart Blur try that Susan and let us know if it works now.. Hugs
Aly, I am sorry if I overstepped.. I made some screen shots to answer Susan's Question to me. Hugs.. team work
Here's the screenshot, you are indeed almost there... @Pachimac After the pop-up you can change the blending mode from normal to multiply. (You also needed to change the blending in earlier steps, you can use the same method for it) Hope this helps...
@AJK & @keepscrappin Let me know if/when you try. I've been too lazy today & tomorrow I'm working all day. LOL
Here's a screen recording of what I did. Where did I go wrong? LOL I wasn't getting those icons and smart filter layers at first. My photo was on its own layer, and it was a smart object, but for some reason things didn't work like she said they would. I realized that I had to be working on the photo without any layers. I went back and opened the photo and converted it to a smart object and then tried it and it worked. Thank you for all the screen caps and help. Those sliders and pop ups didn't exist on my project because my photo was a layer, not the entire thing.
thank you. That's the part that eluded me until I figured out that I was using a photo in a project with layers instead of-working on the photo itself. Once that happened, the sliders and extra windows appeared.
I'm getting the same result. I've tried a few times already. I'm not very smart when it comes to these things. lol
I don't think mine looks any different...I clicked on those little boxes to change the modes. I'm sure I'm missing something somewhere.
@tanteva @AJK I was able to get a similar effect in PSE but I can't make it into a template to be able to drag a new photo in and quickly get the effect again. I had to do a couple of tweaks. Here's the steps I did. Open photo > right click on it in photo bin and chose duplicate > OK Then drag the original photo from the photo bin up to the copy. This will make the photo a smart object. Close original photo. In the photo copy, delete the background layer, so you only have the smart object photo layer. Apply these filters: Filter > artistic > dry brush: 10-10-1 Duplicate layer (ctrl J) Filter > artistic > cutout: 5-4-1 set to pin light Duplicate layer (ctrl J) Filter > Blur - smart blur: 5px and 100 threshold set to screen 5 Duplicate layer (ctrl J) Filter > Stylize > find edges set to multiply I wonder if Aly @ajm or Christa @cfile were to give us their psd file, if we could get the effect in PSE using a smart object photo? hmmm...
THANKS for the PSE steps! I will try tomorrow, as I came down with an aural migraine late this afternoon. Glad they pass!
For PSE Users Here is a link to my dropbox with the PSD file for the paint filter effect that Aly @ajm wrote her tutorial about. Thanks Kayla @keepscrappin for trying it out in PSE and I am more than happy to provide the PSD file for PSE users. Here is the reusable PSD file that has the smart filters applied per Aly's Tutorial: I have uploaded my psd file to my dropbox for you https://www.dropbox.com/s/y6ca95ojdprdvn1/cfile_filterpaint.psd?dl=0 >>Click on screen shots to have them open larger<< PSE when I drag in my PSD file... see the "o" on the layer... that indicates smart filters are there. I have also opened the other photo from unsplash and have that in my photobin (lady with dark bg) I drag my lady with dark background above the original photo and then grab the 'O" filter and slide it up to the dark bg lady photo and that applies the smart filter on the new photo. Zoomed to reflect how the PSD paint filter looks in PSE Now all that needs to be done is to use this painted filter photo on your page... save the psd for reuse Enjoy!!!
@keepscrappin @tanteva @AJK Here is the psd file to use in PSE and screen shots how the psd file looks when using in PSE.. let me know if you have any issues,
This is a super cool trick! I used your directions and instead of saving it, I created an action with them. I'm trying to see if it works as well as the saving option.
