Friends Don't Let Friend's Fonts Float!!

Must do a medical appointment today so won't get back to this till tomorrow. Thank you all so much for your help!

Just tried the 'nofontfloat' style again today on some text written over a photo. What it did is reduce the visibility of the text so it looked like an overlay. I believe that may still be a popular trend but I know my dh would not be able to read it on a printed 12" page. That did not seem to be what it looked like when I tried it before.

I know it's heresy but I often have to put a slight (brown usually) shadow on text - yes, really - so he can read it. I'm already using a 14pt font normally so I certainly don't want it larger and looking like a Large Print Book.

btw, for you Mac folk, once you load @cfile's style, this is what it will look like in PSE - 13 for me. That highlighted box says Default Style and is not active or available. The gray icon is the one to use.

@cookingmylife Maureen- The default style is there in case you don't like it and want to go back to the original it is a quick reset.. The box with red line is the reset back to original. It clears the layer style. Re the no font float... It is made for text on paper to blend... In addition blending anything with paper.. It is nOt really meant for text on photos.

@cfile THANK YOU so much Christa for the style, works fabulously in PSE14!

and thanks Anne @AnneofAlamo for the tutorial, I remember reading this ages ago and started doing it and then forgot! pffffft! getting senile! :)

here is the layer style I made for the "no font float" in CS3 and I tested it in PSE11 and it works.

***if you want to get rid of the layer style on your element once it is applied, either click on the style box with red x or right click on your layer in the layer palette it was applied to and select clear layer style.***

1.Download style and place in your download folder on your windows PC. (I have windows - no Mac so someone may need to indicate changes if it is different on a Mac.)

2. have your workspace going with whatever font or element you do not want floating open and selected in the layer palette.

okay here we go, as we need to load layer style: (It works in both CS3 & PSE11)

3.To load in PSE11 go to windows > effects > and make sure styles tab is highlighted.

4.In the top right of the effects palette is a little arrow with lines. Click on that and it will bring a drop down menu. In the drop down, select Load Style.

5.Locate the download or wherever you saved it to and then select it. It will remove all other styles and put this in its place. (your previous styles are saved in the drop down so do not worry!)

6.now go to your font layer or element layer that you do not want floating and apply the no font float style.. voila!

Let me know if you need full screen shots but I think looking at Anne's tutorial and the info above you should be good to go.

Here is the link for the "No Font Float" style for PSE11 (the style will also work in CS3 and above too!!)... enjoy :)

This style I made is still available. For anyone taking Tangie's Scaredy Cats class and use PSE you can grab this style (or even PS CC users) so that you will have the style based on Tangie's class or Anne's tutorial.
