Thanks for all of the encouragement @cfile Christa. Here's the first font I tried your instructions on. It was "chunkier" and I think I noticed the difference more.

Make sure you try it with papers too and change blend modes of the layers to see all the differences you can obtain!

I am so EXCITED! I finally found a plugin for my software which allows me to do the exact equivalent of blend if. I kept coming back to this tutorial and despaired not to ever be able to do "blend if", but finally I can! And I have been using it A LOT! For text obviously and for blending papers. Thanks for bumping it!

Yay!!! I'm so glad you found a way in your software too! What software are you using and where did you find the plugin (just in case someone else is in the same boat later!)

You shouldn't have to worry about that.. when it opens, just click on the download
