I didn't want to tell my mum cause she's far away and I know she will worry but following my January medical check up I have to undertake a colonscopy (is that the correct spelling?).

I will go tomorrow Wednesday at 11 and since this morning it's no coffee, no good food, just hospital given tasteless food and water. I just had my supper: corn soup. It was thick so I don't feel hungry so that's a thing. But I'm so nervous I don't think I could have eaten much. Chocolate would have definitely be my escape but that's not alolowed lol
I will take some medicine at 8pm (I am guessing it's to start to evacuate all that lol yuck) and tomorrow morning I will have to drink at least 1 liter of a white powder mix until it's "clear waters".

Hubby told me a bit about it cause he had to do it before but I'm an anxious nature and I'm starting to freak out a little. I mean, who wants to show her butt , right? Plus, the imagery of it all is not pleasant at all
Hubby told me if I am tense it's going to hurt and I know myself, I WILL BE TENSE lol lol
In my head it already hurts lol

Anyway, I needed to let a little of this anxiety out there so I hope you will forgive me and my over sharing lol

I've never done a colonoscopy, but I'll just share what I think every time I have to do a "downstairs check-up". It's their job. They see "it" so many times a day, I imagine it's the same feeling for them, as is it's for me everytime someone returns a book at the library where I work.

Try and relax, and imagine you're at a small lake in the woods. Watching a deer stroll by, a swan swimming in the lake, fishes jumping. That's what I do when I'm at the dentist LOL (Have a terrible fear of going to the dentist!)

Before you know it - it's Wednesday evening and it's done! HUGS!

Good luck @ninigoesdigi with the colonoscopy... for me the worst is the prep as that stuff tastes nasty.. if you have gingerale, have that nearby and chug the prep stuff quick followed up by the gingerale :) .. regarding the colonoscopy. I have never had issues.. even the last one I had, they could not really put me under as my blood pressure was low.. I talked to the doctors and radiologist the entire time. I did not feel anything and they did what they needed to do and it was done. The first time I was out and woke up at the end. :) The first time they found a few polys, but you will be fine.. don't have anxiety.. they will take good care of you :) I will keep you in my thoughts for tomorrow.

My Mom always said re a hospital or dr office, you leave your dignity on the doorstep on the way in, and you pick it up on the way out :)

You will do fine!

It is not nice but when it is over you will feel so much better :) My first was a disaster that I said stop and walked out on them but the next on was a the hospital and they gave me so much relaxing medicine that I hardly felt it. So yeah for hospital that listen for after the first one I was terrified.

I have had 3 now, and with the relaxing semi-sedation that they give I don't remember any of the actual procedure, just the yucky prep I had to drink. I hope yours is quick and painless and over before you know they have started.

Good Luck, Nini! Hoping things go smoothly and you get a clean bill of health!

My husband has them every 2-3 years. He has Crohn's Disease, so he has to get them to make sure there are no issues popping up. He always says the worst part is the prep before hand. Drinking the GoLytley drink and constantly having to use the restroom was not fun, lol! Once you go under anesthesia things will be good. You won't feel a thing, and you won't be in pain. You'll wake up super hungry though, lol! And maybe a little bloated feeling.

I agree with everyone posting here. The prep was the hardest part for me. The procedure was just a really excellent sleep. And the doctor who does the procedure CHOSE to go into that field so s/he is used to looking in people's butts. No biggie for them. :). Sending hugs and peace to you. Hang in there. xo

Do they not do your colonoscopy under anesthesia?

Besides the prep, I didn't find the colonoscopy to be so bad. I was under general anesthesia though. I also had an upper endoscopy at the same time and the aftermath of that was worse for me.

I do hope all goes well though and you get a clean scan.

I agree with everyone else: the prep is the worst part. I was put out, so I have no memory of it at all. I woke up - and went home. I had some gas afterwards, but not too bad.

I hope all goes well for you...keep doing some deep breathing to help calm the nerves...and maybe some soothing music.

Good luck. My hubs just had his done. He sure was glad to be home afterwards and eat some good food. He said the scope was not a big deal.

Thank you so much everyone. I needed the giggles in the morning. Trips to the loo are increasing and the liquid I have to drink slowly until I go there is yucky but bareable.

@tanteva I like the imagery ;) Will try my best.

@cfile your mum is a wise woman. I need to learn from her lol

I don't think there will be anesthesia . I think Japanese doctors are more scared the patient has troubles with the anesthesia and waking up part that they don't do that... Maybe on rare occasions I guess but not planned for me. Or maybe very local? We'll see soon.

Gotta pull up my big girl pants... and pull them down after! lol

Thank you again so much for the moral support.

Well, that was all for nothing. In the sense that I suffered a little during the exam and got anxious before that for absolutely nothing health wise. :eyeroll
Apparently my colon shows no problem at all and apparently when I took samples of my poop, blood probably came from hemorroids... over sharing again, sorry :giggle

The "get that thing in" part was ok but at each turns in the colon it would hurt and I was gripping at the bed bars. Like a terrible gas pain you can't evacuate. The nurses were angels and tried to make me relax but it wasn't easy.
The shot they gave me to relax the butt area lol did hurt too :moon

I ate normally after but was so exhausted from the bad night before and the tension I didn't do much in the afternoon. :pigout

I don't know for you but here they give some kind of paper shorts with an opening in the back. I appreciated not being butt naked in front of everone included the male doctor lol I am very very prudish I know. :p

Anyway, thank you all for your moral support. I guess next time I really need this I'll be less anxious but I sure hope I won't need it.
