Flooding in our area of Australia | UPDATE: Evacuation See Post 23

How are you going today Anne-Marie @A-M ? Hope things are improving down there.

We are OK here at Emerald Lakes - though we can kayak in the man cave under our house instead of out on the lake! We kept watching the weather radar and the system just hovered above for days. Fortunately we moved important things upstairs before the water really rose. Now we just have to wait for it to recede before the clean up starts.
No one could have predicted how much rain was going to fall out of the sky in such a short time. Our daughter-in-law & grandkids live on the outskirts of Murwillumbah NSW (son is a FIFO and is in Western Australia at the moment so she is home with the 3 kids). They have had well over 1000mm of rain in a week - that is a metre of rain - as in almost 40 inches!! Fortunately they are near the top of the hill so, while they are marooned, they are safe.

Hope all other Aussie Pad peeps are safe too
Trish

I just got an email from Anne-Marie @A-M from her phone.

Currently, she and Ken are safe in an evacuation center. They have been told that the flood waters reached their roof line. She says they are remaining positive.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

If I get another email from her, I'll be sure to update her status.

Oh my gosh! The roof line. :( That's beyond my capability to imagine how much water that is. I'm so glad they are safe and that they evacuated when they did!

Thank you for the update Cheryl. I’ve been worried! Prayers for everyone affected.

Oh my goodness, glad they are safe but that is tough. It makes me want to revisit my plan for if we ever had to evacuate quickly. Anne Marie, you and your family are in our thoughts today and as you rebuild from this.

I'm so glad they are safe, but what a tragedy to have so much damage from the rains. I hope it clears quickly.

oh my goodness.. prayers for Anne-Marie and Ken and everyone in Australia affected by the flooding. So so sorry you are going through this. So glad Anne-Marie & Ken evacuated, but I cannot imagine water up to the roof line and everything that is lost. Prayers and please be safe.

Does anyone know which town Anne-Marie lives in? I know it is somewhere in Northern NSW but I can't find any reference to where about exactly. Or any contact details at all?
We are just over the border in south east Qld and may be able to help in some way - roads & floodwaters permitting. The clean-up will be horrendous once the waters recede.

In my thoughts and prayers. I c an not imagine anything worse than all your possessions soggy ,and wet. Please stay safe, and dry.....

Fingers and toes crossed that you get back home safe and sound A-M, am so worried for my southern neighbours! The flooding south of us is crazy! We had our turn here in Brisbane over the weekend (some places along the river are still dealing with minor to moderate flooding) but luckily we are on a hill and we had wet gushing down our street and just lost power for a while. My daughter's office was flooded and the smell from the carpet is awful and the roof of mine has sprung a leak. More rain predicted for the weekend which is a bummer because the ground is still saturated.

Stay safe Aussie friends and if I can be of any help from Brisbane ... let me know xx

I'm so sorry to hear this! I had no idea. I'm glad you were able to evacuate to safety. Having had to deal with evacuations almost yearly due to fires, I know how stressful it is and combined with not knowing the state of your home you'll return to. Prayers for all, and for the rains to stop. Prayers of comfort for you both and peace that transcends all understanding. I ask for God's blessing on whatever needs you'll have for the restoration of your home and for your neighborhood.

So glad you were able to evacuate safely. I cannot imagine water to roof line and what will be left when the water recedes. Hugs and prayers for continued safety and rebuilding.

My heart breaks for you @A-M Anne-Marie. I am so sorry. I know that you are assured the Lord is with you.Having experienced two major hurricanes where many passed and damage was severe, I know it is a shock. He will be with you through this journey of restoration. Praying for you and those affected. :hug

Thanks for the update. I can't imagine how many people are in evacuation centres at the moment & the brief break has let some of the water recede but they've been told to stop cleaning up because there's more rain coming that will just pick up all the debris they're clearing from homes again. There's such a large area of devastation the whole way down the coast and inland and in some of the places that were hit worst, they were still recovering from flooding last March

That is so lovely of you! They are inland between Ballina and Evan's Head, if that helps (for some reason i thought she was closer to Yamba). This is Anne_Marie's page from MOC

How did your part of SE Qld fair?
