Feb 2nd.. It's Ground Hog Day!!

We love that movie, we have it (still) in VHS as well as a DVD of it. Today I went to work while it was a balmy 3 degrees Fahrenheit. They are predicting snow for this weekend. Oh joy.

Our local news (ABC 15 Arizona) posted a funny video on their FB feed, that cactus saw it's shadow so there will be 8 more weeks of "extreme winter"...wish I knew how to find a sharable link to post LOL

hilarious!

I've never seen the movie. Had no desire to see it.

I read on FB that "Buckeye Chuck" saw his shadow as well. I'm not surprised. The 10 day forecast is for temps mostly below freezing.

We have an awful lot of Chucks and Charlies in the Groundhog Stew :)

thank you Christa @cfile . My little one spotted it on the calendar yesterday and was wanting to know what it was about.

In Raleigh, NC we have Sir Walter Wally (named after Sir Walter Raleigh, of course). He did NOT see his shadow, yeah! So he is predicting an early spring for us. Go Wally!

Now here is an interesting question my daughter asked - has anyone compared the groundhog's predictions to reality? How often are they right?

p.s. I was excited to see lots of robins this week - until I talked to the Bird Store guy and he told me they never actually leave our area. We do get the Junco winter birds from way up north and they are still here, so it is not time yet.

Another sign of spring - my daffodils are about 3" tall. Of course, they started coming in November because you know this is the South and things get confused.

yet it is Friday so would that be a bad thing?
Hmmmm....This could go two ways. If you are frantically trying to finish your MOC layouts, and wake up each morning to find you need to do them again? Oh boy. Not fun. You would also be adding to your wishlist each day all the pretty things!

I’m in Alberta Canada so I should know better and we have had snow every month of the year. Not sure why I’m so fed up this year
Yuck! My brother spent a year there, and he was done with snow and cold at the end. I think it didn't snow in July and August that year? But it was close! I'm sure you are ready for more sun!

I want Carrie's temps, too, please!
High of 74 here! We've had gorgeous weather all week. I love it!

So glad I could help Angela! We have weird things here in the states! LOL Only here do we worry about little rodents hopping out of the ground to tell us what the calendar does re seasons! LOL

I've had enough winter. Well, I say that on the first cold day of autumn. But besides the cold, it's so brown and ugly after the sparkling Christmas decorations get taken down.

I made it out on a walk around the neighborhood this morning though, despite it being windy and barely 40 degrees. I developed a foot issue (probably plantar fasciitis) last November and haven't been doing my daily walks anymore. But it's not just my foot. It has improved a bit, but the cold weather has discouraged me too. So I feel so good having walked today, and hope to return to doing it regularly again. Maybe every other day to give my foot a rest on alternate days.
I had that a few years ago! It was horrible.
I went to a minimus shoe (eased into it slowly because the transition to a minimus shoe can be tough on its own without a preexisting foot problem!). After 6 months the pain was gone and I've never had any issues. I still continue to wear the minimus shoes though. I've heard people say going to a "minimal" profile/shoe heel helps and I've heard people swear it is bad for you. All I know is it helped me. Might be worth trying?

This is my shoe & usually there are a few different colors available.

Thanks Jenn. This is the first I've heard of this. Does a minimum shoe have good arch support? That's what I was told I need, as well as to wear shoes constantly (except bed, shower or curled up on the sofa, of course). I need to do some more research. My doctor was barely helpful. Funnily, my gynecologist, who I happened to see a few weeks after I visited my doctor for my foot, was more helpful and encouraged me to not give up walking.

I am up the road from you Bev in Va Beach.. they are saying Chesapeake Chuck did see his shadow so 6 more weeks of Winter.. sure wish Chuck was visitng Wally this morning!
Yup re the robins and the juncos.. we have them both all the time.

Not sure on the validity.. I was thinking I heard Phil is wrong a lot of the time.

I assure you it's Spring in the Valley of the Sun! It's already in the 80's and they're predicting 87 next Friday. Don't let that silly groundhog tell nasty little lies!
Not sure we really had winter here! I know one thing for sure, I'm not looking forward to summer around here.

I'm really dreading summer this year...especially with the rate hikes with APS! With the forecast calling for 87 next Friday the triple digits are just around the corner!! :angry

No - just the opposite. It has very little arch support. That is why it is controversial. I had a good arch support on the shoes I was wearing for walking when I developed symptoms - I ended up going in the oppoiste direction and it worked for me. I've been about 5 years pain free.

The idea behind minimus shoes is that the foot and body learn to walk naturally. The foot has a natural arch (as long as you are not flat footed) and it brings your body back to a more natural alignment.

My daughter always likes to call her a groundhog and even made her a cute card with a groundhog on it this year. :giggle It drives my sister crazy.
That is funny! My youngest sister got nicknamed Piglet by the sister just older than she is. It as stuck all these years. She's a grandma now. LOL She got lots of little piggy things given to her over the years. :)

It's a beautiful sunny day here where I live. Timmi and I are both in the Valley of the Sun and it's 80 degrees at my house right now. The interesting thing about that is it's a cooler 80 degrees because of where the sun is. 80 degrees another month or so from now will be a lot warmer. I would welcome another 6 weeks of winter. Our summers are so terribly hot that we don't complain about our winters!!

I didn't see that! I'm going to go look for it. :)

I'm ready for more winter. I want more cuddled up under down comforters watching Netflix kinda time with hot chocolate! If it stays cold and maybe even snowy, then I can continue to ignore what is a neglected yard. And all those books I can read!
