In honor of Dog Appreciation Day, I thought we'd do a shout out to our beloved pets. If you have a scrapbook layout featuring your furry family member, post it here so we may love on your doggie too! My first shout goes to Dutch Britney. I only had her for two years before she broke my heart. I adopted an old Rescued Racer, a Greyhound. She passed way from a splenic tumor. But in our two years together, we bonded. She was my goofy gal. My second shout out goes to Maggie. Maggie came with Donald. Or maybe I should say Donald came with Maggie . This little Shitzu - Pomeranian mix was full of life and personality. She took to me quickly and as she aged, I stuffed in her a back pack to go on long walks. She lived 17 1/2 years, but the last few were marked with kidney disease. She simply could not go on walks anymore, but would howl like the wind if I went on a walk without her. And third shout goes to my current dog-son. Obi - the cattle dog/hound dog mix - the velociraptor devil dog!!! He is so ornery and full of energy! Keeps me on my toes. Now it's your turn! Show us your furry loves!
Yes, I saw this fact earlier today and it says it's international dog day! Yaaay!!! I made a page this month about our not so little baby dog daughter...=) My cousin rescued her near her farm, in the countryside, and we don't know what breeds are mixed, but every photo of her that I try on Google lens, it shows some kind of labrador mix, with hound, greyhound, boxer, so all we know is that she may have some farm dog genes in her, because those dogs are in the population near my cousin's farm. Anyway, she's about 11 months and we love this full of energy puppy!
I've had 4 dogs in my life. It all started when I was 9 years old and we had moved into this house. We got Patches (a mutt) the day after Thanksgiving and she was my girl throughout my school years and even college. She died at the age of 14. It was over 20 years before I got another dog. I knew I wanted a small dog and researched different breeds and found the Havanese. I ended up meeting a breeder from Toledo and my love affair with the breed was born. I got Pepper in June 2000 and in March of 2002 I got Paige from the same breeder. They had the same mom but different dads so they were truly brother and sister! Due to health issues I had them put down on the same day in December 2015. Pepper was 15 and 1/2 years old and Paige was just shy of her 14th barkday. It took awhile before I could let another dog into my heart but I ended up getting Peyton in July 2017 from the same breeder. Peyton's 2nd great grandfather was Paige's dad so Paige would have been Peyton's great-grand aunt. And, ironically Peyton is also connected genetically to Pepper although not as close as to Paige. Peyton's 3rd great grandpa is Pepper's grandpa so they are cousins many times removed! Peyton is now 6 years old and a total sweetheart. She is spoiled rotten because I retired not long after getting her so she is used to me being around all the time! This is a layout I did during MOC this year that features all 4 of them.
We'll be at the dog park later and I'll be popping into their dog store for a few new bones for them. Every day is Dog Appreciation Day with our 3. They are so well loved by all of us. I'll be back with a few pages later when I get on the computer.
Omigosh this is so great- although I'm a sucker for any pet digi supplies, so this may be a good thread to avoid to save me some $$! We have 2 doggies currently that are primary actors in many of my layouts. We lost one of our bulldogs March of 2022- which was HARD- so I've had a lot of therapy type layouts about her too! This was Lucy- It's just not the same out at the lake without her. This is Nelly- we got her in March of 2020- right when covid shut down our world and it was such a blessing to have a new puppy to distract us. She's so funny and has a huge personality. When Lucy passed away- she literally went into a deep depression and wouldnt eat (NOT her normal) and slept ALL DAY, so we had to get our dog a dog! And our newest pup- Cooper- He just turned a year old and is still a neighborhood terrorist- but so cute! Coopy & Nelly- the two loafs now!
Well Neelix isn't just my dog, he is my very best fur friend and my everyday hero so he is basically another member of our family and VERY much loved. He is scrapped a lot.. *L* Here are some of his furry highlights (one of the hardest pages I made) Neelix journey to service dog back in 2017 Day we got him!!! he was soooo tiny His tiny fuzzy face
I love ❤️❤️ all these layouts with the beloved pets, how very special. We only had Clancy, the most untrained but well-loved dog in the world. My husband is a farm boy who believes dogs belong outside so we never had any dogs in the city. Since I’m allergic to lots of types of dogs, achoo, it was probably a good move health wise.
Just 9 months after I got Paige, her breeder wanted to show her at several confirmation shows (it was a part of the agreement when I got her). She had Paige for over a month. Pepper was a lost little soul during that time and wouldn't eat... except McDonald's french fries! I made the trip to Columbus to see her at a show and took Pepper with me. We kept out of her sight until after Kim had her in the ring. They were so excited to see each other! On the way home, I went through a McDonald's to get him french fries. It was another 2 weeks before she came home... and we never let her leave again! Actually, the breeder chose not to show her anymore after some comments from the judges. So when she started having the health issues and I had to make the decision to put her down, I thought long and hard about Pepper. He had been having his own issues of going into a room and not knowing why or where he was and running in to walls. He even fell down the basement stairs (about 15 steps). He also was having accidents in the house all the time even after he had been outside and relieved himself. I knew that if I put Paige down and not Pepper, it would just be a matter of time before I would have to do the same for him. It was hard but I made the decision to let them cross the rainbow bridge together. He had lived a long and good life being 15 1/2 years old so it made sense.
Oh my gosh- that brings tears to my eyes! I 1000% agree that they bond so much with each other as well as us. We really debated about getting another puppy after Lucy passed, since we are so busy with kids' activities and gone a lot, but it was either that, or make sure we took Nelly with us everywhere and to the dog park often to get her out of her depression. We just didn't have the time to do that and a puppy cured her blues for sure! But I'm wondering if the same thing will happen when it's her time and then Cooper is all alone... :/
There's a photo of me around the age of 1 with a little black fluffy dog. I don't remember its name or what happened to it. And then my family only had cats, mainly just two (but a few others came and went) during my entire childhood . . . until I was 16 and my mom decided she wanted a cocker spaniel she named Coco. He was her second Coco. She had another breed of dog when she was young who she also named Coco. I was firmly a cat person and never cared much for Coco. And then in 2004 I discovered my second child is allergic to multiple things and I haven't had a pet since. I'm ok with it! But I enjoyed reading your stories and I do admire some dogs. I'm most impressed by the bigger and fluffier breeds. Oh! I should mention we have a dog at our school. She belongs to our Instructional Technologist, as a service dog, and we see her around a lot. Sometimes the students earn the reward of time with the dog (service vest removed). It's funny how I can always hear her coming down the hall behind me because of the click of her nails on the vinyl floor.
One of the first layouts I uploaded here in 2013, right after we got out sweet Sinatra (his eyes are blue). About 7 years ago More recently There are a bunch more and he is in a lot of my weekly spreads. He HATES having his picture taken. He knows when the camera or phone comes out and either turns his back on me or takes off to another room. I have a bunch of pages with my granddogs as well. They are like my own and spend lots of time visiting, much to my dog's dismay. He kind of old, set in his ways, and prefers peace...kind of like me hahaha
Loving all the pup pages. I/We have had dogs all my life and I've certainly had many that are SUPER special to me. I'm not sure I have pages about them all, but I definitely need to add some.
I sadly misplaced all the photos of my first dog Koko, who we had when we first moved into our first home way back when. This was before I scrapped, so I have no pages of her. She was a black field lab and was so full of energy. We spent a lot of time with training, and she would respond to hand signals by the end of it. We learned flyball and she loved it, but we had to retire her from that after she developed hip displasia. She died suddenly at 7 years of age of an anaesthetic death while undergoing a routine procedure to get a sample of a lung infection that she developed after staying at a kennel (we suspected kennel cough). I was heartbroken. This is Teba, so gentle and loving, we had her for 12 years, and she was my constant companion at the time. She wasn't as well trained as Koko, but she wasn't a high energy dog, being an English style labrador retriever. Then we got Jasper, a big goof, with a sweet disposition. He is my current furbaby, another English style black lab, but getting up there as you can tell by his white whiskers (he's the first dog we've had that went grey).
I need to do a proper page about Murphy but here is one from a while back. Murphy is a Wheaten Terrier and he just turned 13 on National Dog Day. We are lucky to have had him since he was 10 weeks old. Sadly, he has been diagnosed with bladder cancer so we are trying to appreciate every day with him.
And another page with Murphy and his little rescue-mutt sister, Tori. Tori is a little tank who loves two things most in the world -- her dad and food. Growling is her love language.
These are my current fur babies, Ishka and Inuyasha. I love them to pieces. They are both rescues. We've had Ishka for 4.5 years and on September 11th, we'll have had Inuyasha for five years.
