*** Closed ***JANUARY 12: New Skill-Hobby-Job

Thank you for the challenge! It actually got me started again on learning to type, this is awesome.

Journaling:
I've wanted to be able to type with 10 fingers for ages. It's so cool! And so practical! I've already made a few attempts, but then gave up when it got more complex with capital letters, punctuation marks, etc. But I still have the basic sequence down pretty well. So my previous attempts weren't in vain. The MOC challenge “New Skill/Hobby/Job” reminded me of this, and I immediately looked for programs for it and practiced at least the basic sequence again. ;) So the challenge got me right into action!

All my biggest new things have been a couple of years ago now (home, job) and most my my new 'skills' seem so minor (although learning that I could programme my camera phone to take a picture by saying 'smile' rather than clicking a button was mind-blowing to me, it didn't really seem like it warranted a page for the challenge).

So, inspired by pages from several members during MOC, I have made a decision that I will (try) and turn my hand at breadmaking, and get my daughter to join in with me on the journey. How successful we'll be remains to be seen! At the very least I expect that flatbreads will be a success even if more traditional loaves aren't so much.

Here is my new hobby: I recently took up Paddle Tennis. It is played outdoors in the winter in Chicago area. This year my new aspect of it is to be captain which is lots of stepping outside my comfort zone.

journaling reads:
I started playing paddle last year. This year I agreed to be to be the captain. It has been a challenge in many way. between managing my tendency to be a people pleaser, and learning to communicate in a less transactional fashion. I really struggle with text messaging in a cheery way. I still cannot believe I am voluntarily playing a sport outdoors in Chicago winter. The struggles are worth it for the great friendships the sport has led to for me.
