2016 Reading Goals

I have a friend who tried the Outlander series and couldn't do it. took her like 6 months to read the first and normally I feel the same as her about every book, so I have skipped these! I know people love them though! @gonewiththewind are you one that loved Outlander?

@crystalbella77

Yes! I love the series. I fell in love with them. I've read the series twice now. LOL There are parts that are denser, meaning that there is a lot of "historical" information and facts, that is sometimes hard to read through, but it's definitely integral to the plot so it's important to read it and pay attention.

I watched the first part of the Outlander series, and it was a good way to kind of picture things in my head. You might want to give it a watch (I think the first episode was available for viewing for free) after you've read a few chapters.

@crystalbella77 Yes, let's do a book club here again. Love that idea! Pick a book for January and we'll run with it. :)

So, I'm a freakishly fast reader. It's my super power. I read a whole book nearly everyday. I'm right around 330 for the year. Thank goodness for Amazon's lending program. I've been on a huge non fiction kick lately but I'm going to load up with some fluffy chick lit for the holidays. Good relaxation!

Good Lord woman, is there anything you can't do??

I don't have a number in mind, just to keep reading, and read things I haven't read before (I keep re-reading my faves)

I usually try to read about a book a week. Obviously I fell short this year. I kept a list on my blog before I started with Goodreads, and I've just kept it going. It's nice to look back to see what I was reading each year.

I find it easier to just see what Julie @mrs2a50 reads and posts, and then read it. Been my best go to good reads! My hubby even loves her picks!
Oooh, good to know. I need to get on that!!

I had a tough time with the first book. I finished it okay, but I didn't really like it. A gal in my book club couldn't understand and then spent most of the night trying to convince me how wonderful it was.

Dang girl!!! I'm so jealous. There are too many books and way too little time!!! I saw the book club post and voted!!! Thanks to you and Crystal!!

Of your list, I've read 2. What did you think of #2&3. Would your recommend #1?
Are you on Goodreads now? Are you gonewiththewind or something else?

Reading this thread last night I was inspired to visit my GoodReads account. I've had it for years but have rarely made time to use it, even though I think it's an awesome thing. (There are too many cool things in the world to do them all! Sigh) I spent quite a lot of time there. I discovered the feature that connects to Amazon so you can input every book you ever bought there. I'm Michele Kendzie if you'd like to find me there.

I've never set goals for reading because I used to be such a prolific reader there was no need. Even when I had young kids I still read a lot. I loved reading Harry Potter, all the several re-readings, and many other books we read aloud together. Now 14, 12, and 9, they're less interested in reading together anymore, though my 14 year old talks me into reading her favorite books on my own, which I enjoy. But I've really neglected my love of books in the last few years, so a goal is making some sense to me now. I think I'm going to aim for an easy 1 book per month for starters, which sounds ridiculously easy but will actually be an improvement over this year.

I loved the Game of Throne series, which is the first 5 on my list:
  1. A Game of Thrones (Fall)
  2. A Clash of Kings (Fall)
  3. A Storm of Swords (Fall)
  4. A Feast for Crows (Fall)
  5. A Dance With Dragons (Fall)
They would recommend them all. There are multiple characters, locations, times, etc. For instance, one book might be about a certain group of characters in a specific location and time. The next book will be about another group of characters in specific locations but in the same time period as the previous book. Does that make sense? I found it extremely interesting, but they are certainly not for everyone. Give book one a try, though, and see if it's a fit for you.

And yes, I'm on Goodreads as Cheryl Ashcraft! Look me up!

I set my last year goal at 40 when I joined Goodreads in the spring. Wasn't sure how many I actually read. Realized I hit 61 already this year. I'm setting my goal at 50 next year because I'm hoping to read two Outlander books, which are around 1000 pages each.

I absolutely love Goodreads. Is there any sort of Goodreads/Scrapbooking group there? LOL. We can all share what we are reading with each other?

I haven't gotten past chapter 3 in the first book! Everyone raves about the Outlander Series, so I picked up the omnibus on my Kindle. Maybe I should add that to my reading list for this year.

I've read the first Outlander (and have 2-4 waiting on my bookshelf). It's an intense read, but I couldn't put it down!!

@tinkerbell1112 I will have to try again. From page 1. And maybe not read it at night before bed?:rollin
Yes, it takes a bit. Mine sat on my bookshelf for at least 10 months before I felt like I should give it a try. It's intimidating and it takes a bit to get into. Now the only thing stopping me from book 2 is the size. LOL. But it's what I think I'll start when I'm done with the two I am reading now. Maybe it's only 1 Outlander book a year. :)

I should set a goal! How do you track how many books you read? Do you wrote then down somewhere?

If I count the books I read with my kid, then I read over 100 this year. Lol. Myself, I have no idea. I read 6 last month, but I'm not positive that's average for me.
:giggle I try to read the kids a book every day, but I don't read for me hardly ever anymore. It's been years since I visited good reads. I may go check it out again .

;)

I feel like I've been reading the same 4-5 authors for the last couple years, so this should shake that up.
I want to look this up. Thanks for the link!

It's not organized. If I was organized if get them into good reads!
:giggle

My goals for 2016 is 5 books, for me. Starting with the one my husband bought me for Christmas... he only bought it because it's JK Rowling, so I will see how it is.

And I intend to write them in my planner.
