January 6: Dispersion (Technique Challenge)

full

I spent a half of day to understand the technique. Truly, i am still not clearly the technique. @IntenseMagic Please let me know my page was correct or not.

I think this looks lovely!! Different types of brushes give different types of effects and I think you did great!

Thank you, everyone!! Just waking up and pouring coffee in myself! I'm working my way through questions. I love what I'm seeing so far! And I also soooo appreciate those who have jumped in to help each other. We have such a great community!!

I am getting stuck -- I get to the liquify but then when I try rest of the instructions it seems like I can't get it work. I use Photoshop CC. I do love the effect the liquify does on this photo -- would this work?

I have to admit I am a pretty straight vanilla girl when it comes to scrapping

looks like fun, I can't do that in my scrapbooking software, but my Serif photo-editor probably can once I translate the instructions across. If anyone uses Photoplus and has done this before please let me know.

I'll do some checking and see if there is anything I can find to help you :)

HI, I'm still having trouble with this....I just can't seem to get it to work.

I am not getting this one at all and it's very frustrating.

I am stuck at this point.

Now we are going back to the top copy we made and select just the subject. I used the quick selection tool to isolate my granddaughter. You can do this however is easiest for you, and you don’t have to be absolutely exact. Once the selection is made, make 2 of copies of just your subject using ctrl-j or cmd-j. Once you make the copies of the subject, you don't need that second background copy, so just hide it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What part are you stuck on exactly? You are basically extracting the subject and making 2 copies of the subject by itself and then hiding the layer that you extracted it from.

I'm not sure what's not working for you, but when I first tried this I got frustrated because it didn't seem to be working for me and then I realized that after I added the masks and went to do the brush work I was not clicking on the mask itself on the layer before using the brush. If that's what's sticking you, I can grab a screen shot to show you what I mean.

Can you help me please? I can't see the liquified layer beneath the top layer with the brush strokes. I'm pretty sure I followed all of the instructions to the tee!

@IntenseMagic I found something that helped. Photoplus doesn't have a liquefy filter, but there is a manual warp tool so I've used that, and had a go. Manual cloning out the subject was complicated, but would have been easier if I had a photo that didn't have a full background. I don't think it's a technique I'll use very often, but it's good to learn something new. I've learnt some new things about my software, and that's always a good thing. Thank you.

I had this trouble, too, when I started playing with this technique. Make sure that when you select the layer with the mask that you click on the mask itself before using the brushes and that your foreground is set to white. I can grab a screen shot if you need one.

I'm so happy, Angela! That's the goal here! Not looking for perfection but learning!!

Definitely wasn't using the mask itself! IF you have a screen shot, that would be super helpful!

This is not the best, but if you look at that layer you can see that there is a bracket around the mask. Just make sure before you start using the brush that you actually click on the black mask so that bracket is around it. If you haven't clicked on it the bracket would be around the image part. I hope that makes sense haha.

Honestly, I ready to throw in the towel. I will come back to this at some point. But right now it's just to hard for me, which I understand is the point of the challenges, but there needs to be a balance.

So, how is this? I very rarely scrap a photo twice but this was 'I have to give this a go' challenge! Wow, I've just done things I've NEVER done before! So glad I'm on holidays and it's a Scrapbooking Saturday! If this meets the challenge brief, I'm happy to share how I did it in Artisan. Very happy with the end product....it shows exactly how he felt! :)

Looks great! I use Artisan too and these are the challenges I find the most difficult because I'm not a "player" in the program!

Thank you - I see the brackets - I just can't see the liquified image. I would send you a screenshot but I'm not sure how

DUH! I just realized I had to brush to actually see the liquifying. Sorry for being such a dolt!
