January 4th - Stylin' Titles (Technique Challenge)

I used the metal rim style on the HELLO title.

I've been holding on to PSE 5.0 (Yes 5.0 - I know :blush) forever and not wanted to upgrade because 5.0 suited my needs and although I tried newer versions I kept coming back. With the latest Windows update making the software crash repeatedly I knew it was all a matter of time before I needed to move on and leave my best friend of these past ten years behind.

After working with styles today I now feel a little better about having to upgrade. I had to download a trial version of PSE 15 to use the styles for this layout. So perhaps some day soon I'll finally move on.

Yikes...I'm a PSP user so no styles over here...I think I need to clip papers then :)

In Paint Shop Pro (my old stomping grounds) you can even go a step further than just clipping the paper and try to add a bevel and/or inner glow. Right click on your layer in the layer's palette and choose properties then click on the "layer styles" tab. You should see lots of different options that can really help make your title pop!

One of my favorite fonts for use on styles (especially styles with more of a bevel) is Bebas - which is a free font! I also often look at weights when I am searching for fonts - for example at FontSquirrel I go to the side and browse by tag - "heavy" or "bold". Another thing you can do is play around with adding strokes to create a bolder look. One of my favorite tricks is to duplicate my text layer and on the lower layer I add the stroke and the upper layer I may "engrave" it. Here is an example:

(I used the font "Alex Brush" and Stylin' #209)
WOW! Thank you for the detailed description! That looks AMAZING with the script font as well! LOVE the stroke! Off to give it a try. <3

I have never used styles and don't have a clue how to load them but I certainly know how to clip paper to titles. Will play around a bit and see what I come up with. Definitely a challenge.

Hey! I'd love to help - which program do you use?

PSE - Expert Mode > Effects Tab > Load Effects > (load the style/asl file here)
CS/CC - Open the file as you would any document. Pull your style tab by going to Window > Styles > the styles will be loaded in this tab.

I have pse8 and when I click on the down arrow where you show to load styles. I don't have a load section.... Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you for the styles! I've bought your styles before, but I'm not very good about using them. After seeing some examples, I'm going to have to force myself to get out of my comfort zone.

Jeanet, I thought I was the only person left still using PSE 5.0!

Don't feel bad! I'm still using PSE 2.0!
