MOC '17 training HERE! bhwhahaha

For everyone planning on taking more photos to be ready for the MOC - do you have specific photos you take? Last year was my first year and I just used whatever photos I had that seemed to work for the challenge. It's actually a problem I have with the challenges - not all my challenge pages will make it into books...

One thing Robyn to help with challenges (especially when you fill you may never print that page). YOU are learning something, or pushing yourself to try something new. It unleashes the inspiration to help you get those pages you want in your book be better and more fun to make.
as to photos...I just want tons to choose from! lol

January 2016 was my first MOC and I completed all 31 challenges.... WOOT!

I guess I'd better make sure the FAM knows January is "Fend For Yourself Month", cuz Mom will be scrappin again! lol

My MOC preparations will be:
1. Stocking my freezer, pantry and food storage room with easy foods for the FAM to make.
2. Continue taking photos I normally would. I'm behind, but that's okay. That just means I'll have plenty to choose from when the challenges are posted. If I don't have a photo for a challenge, then I'll take one that day. no biggie.
3. Not psych myself out.

MOC is really NOT that hard. It's just 1 challenge per day. I'm gonna do the same thing I did last year, and just take it 1 challenge at a time. Ask questions, if I have them. Schedule time for scrappin each day. Look at what others are doing, and just try it. The worst thing that can happen is I make a layout I don't like. Last year I only had 1 layout out of 31 that I didn't like, and it really wasn't that bad. In the end, I was very happy with my MOC layouts. I learned and stretched myself in ways I never would have without MOC. I'm really looking forward to it and hope that I can help encourage others to give it a try.

And don't forget the pop tarts. Anne's recommended food to have handy to toss to hungry kids.

Wooohooo! Can't wait for the next MOC!

This year was my second attempt. I fell flat on my face during the first attempt (but learned a LOT from that experience!), and this year I actually completed them all!

Some things I learned from the first attempt that helped me finish the second one:
  • Have photos ready to go, whatever that means for you. For me, that means pick flags set in my weekly Smart Collections (Lightroom) and editing done. Then I only scroll through the photos that are ready to find one that will work for a challenge
  • Have yo' stuffs organized- again, whatever that means for you. My first MOC I was new to digital scrapbooking and thought I was going to be a kit scrapper. That SO did not work for me. Turns out that I like to have lots of pieces to choose from when scrapping (lots more than what is in a normal kit), so now I'm a happy "collab scrapper" and have my color references at the ready so I can quickly find a set of supplies that will work with my photo and then go, go, go from there!
  • I like having a "baseline" layout template set up. It contains my favorite kraft and grid papers (on separate layers, so I can turn them on and off as needed), a text box with my favorite journaling font ready to go with the right size, spacing, etc., and the same for the date text. It only saves a few minutes, but over 31 layouts those few minutes can add up!

Besides all the tips already provided... I will make sure I know what of my TLP stash is AVAILABLE IN THE STORE (most of it... hahah), since that is a MOC (mach speed pronunciation) requirement.

Lists of things to scrap, pictures selected for those stories, and TLP goodies. Otherwise, knowing what to expect now means I should be able to stop stressing about it.

I have a folder in my KITS folder that is labeled "must scrap with ASAP" and it has shortcuts for the kits I want to remember to use for MOC. I should also have shortcuts for the pics I want too lol!

to get in or stay in shape for the MOC

Prepping by creating a folder with more than 30 pages worth of images helps me immensely. Then I simply pick images and go from them. The pages that take me the longest are ones that I start to build before I've chosen pics, so I'll avoid that this year.

I agree that taking images NOW for pages that I know I want to scrap about are critical to being ready.

Thanks for the reminder. I forgot about that. Is there an easy way to check? Maybe I'll sort my stash by date added to my TLP folder and only use the newest stuff.

To be honest, I don't think the designers here retire things, except during the retirement sale... if I remember correctly, it was in February, after MOC. I'm not sure what your shopping patterns are.... I buy a lot. but depending how many freebies you get from their newsletters, you might need to look and see if those have been added to the store or not. maybe make a folder of shortcuts to kit folders that are in the store.

Cant wait, despite only completing 1 page for the challenges last month. But I did do some others, and I did have guests.
I put photos that are suitable for any subject,in a folder and call it MOC +the year Clever ehh ?:giggle

I need to step up my photography game. Sometimes I get fantastic pics, most of the time they're just so-so.

I tell you what, @jesskab - nothing has motivated me to scrap more than photographs I love. Every minute I put into attending a class or reading a book or doing a tutorial has paid off in dividends when it comes to creating life art!

My training is taking some time each week to star those photos that are my favorites that I haven't scrapped yet. Having great inspiration from photos can help pull a page together quickly! And doing it now means I'm ready January 1st!

I've recently had a big mental breakthrough in how I want to approach our family's albums, so I need to get re-organized. I registered for Cathy Zielske's "Scrapbook Your Year" and it's given me a lot of clarity. I'm putting together very simple month-in-review layouts using only a handful of pics from the month (like, less than 5% of what I shoot) and some basic journaling. Then that frees me up to use my more artistic scrapbook layouts to tell our family's stories, rather than the day-to-day stuff.

So, thank you for the reminder, @bestcee - I need to get back to flagging those stories that need to be told in our scrapbooks, maybe even doing some journaling in a Word doc so that's done and I can grab the text and the photos and focus on creating during MOC.

That's another great reminder, @klee73010 - I have all my TLP stuff tagged in Lightroom, but I need to add another flag for retired vs currently-in-shop; that way, I can create a Smart Collection to show only current product previews. I guess that means I'm safe to start that process now? I wasn't sure if I needed to wait until after the holidays or until Jan 1 to do that...

I did my first MOC in 2015, and bombed spectacularly. I think I lasted until January 4. This year, I tried it again, and completed 20 layouts. Considering I was coming off a multi-year-long scrap block, I called it a success.

During my month as a guest Polly I created 29 layouts, so I got a lot closer. For 2017, I'm determined to knock out all 31 layouts so I might, just might, have a shot at joining the Pollys. I had so much fun in September... :)

Last year was my first year, and I did not complete it. I was just setting up my design store here, and it was overwhelming. Now I'm nicely settled in and can't wait!

I was disappointed that I didn't get those layouts done, so in March I participated in a month-long challenge to create as many layouts as possible.

What I learned was to just make time every single day to scrap . . . sure it helped to have my supplies and photos organized . . . but to just say, I need this special time to make something beautiful and document this memory. Well, it made a difference and I completed over 70 layouts! So I know I'm ready to do MOC 2017!!!

In my humble opinion , you are free to start now.... as I mentioned , I am fairly certain the only product retirement is in the retirement sale, or a designer leaving the store.... :)
