As we are coming into the final weeks of Summer Camp, I have the pleasure of bringing you one of the easiest games of the summer! Week 6 is all about being At One With Nature, so our game is to share your favorite photo(s) taken in nature and tell us a little about it/them.

How to Play:
  • Share 1 or more of your favorite photos that were taken in nature.
  • Tell us about the photo(s). You might tell us where it was taken and what you were doing there or how that place made you feel. Please use your own personal photos, not AI generated or stock photos.

Deadline:

Enter as directed by September 3 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Be sure to log your progress in your individual tracking thread within Summer Camp 2025 - Layouts & Game Links if you are wanting to participate in the additional prizes.

Prize:
One random winner will be selected from the eligible entries to receive a $5 Lilypad gift certificate.

I'll go first.
It was July 2020 - the height of the pandemic - and we were stir crazy and trying to figure out how to vacation while still social distancing (remember that!?). So, we drove to an AirBNB in southern Utah and spent a week outside in nature. It was wonderful. One day we took a hike in a remote canyon in the Grand Staircase - Escalante National Park. And I do mean REMOTE -- it was 10 miles of brutally rough unpaved road (after 7 miles of paved road) to get there. But, it was totally worth it and I have such vivid memories of this hike. Including the rattlesnake that I almost stepped on until my daughter screamed STOP! Let's just say that the memories could easily have been bad memories of trying to get medical help that far from anything during a global pandemic. :giggle But nature (and the chonky snake) smiled on us that day and we survived with a slightly scary story and amazing photos to remember it.

This was when we went to the Blarney Castle 10/25/2024 and I was amazed walking through the gardens and came upon this leaf on the ferns there. It was huge.. We got some beautiful photos there. I did not climb up to kiss the stone, but really enjoyed the gardens there!

My favourite in nature photos are of my children exploring it. In particular I love the ones of them inside tree hollows. This tree was a favourite way to have a break during our long journey to the in-laws. The children quickly found it at the edge of the parkland we always stopped at for our picnic lunch.

We walked along the sea shore in Dublin and even though I saw a seal and tried to photograph it, it was just too fast for me. This little flower though spoke to me of resilience and blooming where we have been planted and it still sparks joy for me.

In October/November of last year, I visited my brother & his wife who live in Florida. We did a tourist thing and went to the Everglades. It was amazing. I had no idea that it was actually considered a river, 60 miles wide and 100 miles in length. Living in a land-locked area in the Midwest, the sights were stunning, just miles and miles of flooded grasslands. And YES, we saw alligators in their natural environment.

My favourite photos of nature always involve Jasper which has a special place in my heart as my grandparents lived there. I would spend so much time there in the summer and even in the winter, enjoying all that it had to offer.

Here is our latest trip to Jasper, amazing view from the drive on the highway, and my boys having fun on an uprooted tree:

Wow there are some spectacular scenic photos here on this thread.

Mine was taken much closer to home in our garden at the time and back when my shaky hand syndrome (familial tremor) hadn't got so bad and I could still take photos without shaking and them being blurry. We kept quite a natural garden and had a lot of different types of fungus growing naturally. I love this one photo because, well it features a heart shaped fungus and I also got the water droplets on the blades of grass.

One morning I had the pleasant surprise of coming across a turtle in the garden, I quickly took a photo. For me a turtle symbolizes constancy and stability with its slow and thoughtful gait, turtles remind us of the importance of moving forward step by step and not rushing. Unfortunately I never saw it again :(

While we were on holiday this past July, this cute little bunny was sitting quietly by the side of the bike path. I had nearly cycled right past it, but stopped just in time to take a quick photo. Such a lovely surprise in the middle of our ride!

Every time we go for a walk, I try to take the time to look at nature, especially insects, because my youngest son loves them. And on our last walk, a butterfly landed near us and stayed on this chain for a long time. I was careful not to scare it with my shadow and tried to take a few photos.

Phew which photo do I share? ... I take sooooooooo many nature photos... photos in my garden to record the flowers blooming each season, or the gorgeous sunsets from my upstairs window, and then there are the cosmos flowers once a year, photos at my favourite home-away-from-home holiday place, Wyndford. Oh and don't forget the pics I took when flying with my son.... it's sooooooooooo hard to find just ONE favourite and depending on where I am and what I'm scrapping, at that moment that is my favourite. So for this challenge I will share the sunset photo I took last night.

That's pretty amazing and I love that you included a hand for scale!

I'm always amazed that trees can grow like that! What a cute photo -- the tree makes a perfect frame!

This photo is absoutely gorgeous and probably better than some far off seal shot anyway!
