We all have names, lol! So I have many questions! :)

Are any family names special to you?
Are you named after anyone?
Or did you name your kids after anyone? Or even a pet?
Do you have favorite names?
What about nicknames? Got any that you'd like to share?

Are any family names special to you?
Sort of. In my family history, the kids will always have the maiden name as one of the middle names. I did this for my kids too. It's just a nod to both sides of the family. We can also trace things a bit faster going back.

Are you named after anyone?
I am not, but I am a continuation. :giggle My Dad is one of 8... and all of them have names that start with J. I was a continuation. It was either Jennifer or Jessica.

Or did you name your kids after anyone? Or even a pet?
My kids have family names - my grandfather and his brother my great uncle (gruncle). It just seemed to fit, and we really liked the names. They both have my maiden name in as part of their names.

As for Pets. Not mine. But my uncle named his previous dog, Colleen. After my mom... so he would get to yelling her name and have a chuckle. It made me laugh as a kid too! Colllleeeeennnnnn, and here came the dog running!

Do you have favorite names?
I used my favorite names, lol! Well, except for a girl, and I'm quite ok with that! :P

What about nicknames? Got any that you'd like to share?
I've had a few, but mostly if I see old friends, I hear my maiden name yelled or as a greeting! It's what everyone called me in college.

Are any family names special to you? Mine....see next answer
Are you named after anyone? I am named after both of my grandmothers. Carrie was my dad's mother's name. She passed away before I was born. She hated the name Carrie and went by her middle name. My middle name is Hortense after my mom's mom - Hortensia.
Or did you name your kids after anyone? Or even a pet? My daughter's middle name is Shea which was my mom's maiden name/grandparent's last name. My son and husband share the same middle name - Anthony.
Do you have favorite names? Well...my husband didn't get a say in naming our daughter because I knew what I wanted to name a girl for many years. :giggle
What about nicknames? Got any that you'd like to share? My family does not call me Carrie. If someone calls me Carrie, I'm in trouble. My mom calls me mija and my siblings call me sis/sissy. Funny story...a cousin thought my name was sissy and was shocked when he found out it wasn't. :giggle

Are any family names special to you? Yes. I love that they are passed down to others
Are you named after anyone? My first name comes from my great-grandfather on my dad's side, Carey . My Middle name is from my great-grandmother on my mom's side, Rose
Or did you name your kids after anyone? Or even a pet? Bianca's middle name is Rose like mine.. and Asia has the middle name of Twin sister who died at birth, Rae. Her middle name also honors her father, Raymond.
Do you have favorite names? I have a list.. *L* I really loved Talan for a boy, Maverick, ... Rya...Harlan for a girl ..
What about nicknames? Got any that you'd like to share? Mine has always been Carebear, Bianca's is Bink-in-stien or binks.. Kai is my Kman and Asia has always been my Doodle. My grandkids are Cassity (Casserole) and Lachlan (Lockness Monster)

Are any family names special to you? Not really
Are you named after anyone? Mom always said that Dad was adamant that my name be Renee... after his French girlfriend from his days in the Navy. I never knew if that was true or not because my dad liked to joke about things all his life. He let Mom choose how to spell it and my middle name.
Or did you name your kids after anyone? Or even a pet? No kids. My current dog, Peyton, is named after a contestant from a long ago season of The Bachelor (Peyton Wright). She didn't win but ended up marrying a guy from a subsequent season of the Bachelorette. They have been favorites of mine for a long time. Any one that watches Weather Channel might know of him since he contributes information about landscaping (Chris Lambton)
Do you have favorite names? Not really
What about nicknames? Got any that you'd like to share? A couple younger cousins would call me NayNay until they could say the R but it never stuck.

I've been concentrating on one family name for my genealogy research these last few months and they sure did like to use the same names generation after generation! Even my middle name (Ann) is a popular name in that family for girls so maybe unknowingly I was named for ancestors my parents didn't even know about! For the men, it is Edward/Edwin, John, Benjamin, and James. For the women, I've seen a lot of Adaline, Rhoda, Ann, Mary/Maria.

Are any family names special to you?
I just commented to DH last night that, if I had life to do over again, I would never have changed my last name. I would have kept my maiden name forever...just because.

Are you named after anyone?
I am named after my mom's sister who passed away when she was around 22.

Or did you name your kids after anyone? Or even a pet?
Nope, my kids' are all random lol. My older dog is named after Frank Sinatra because he has blue eyes, and I had a dog named Nelly because we got her the year the song Hot in Here was on the radio constantly.

Do you have favorite names?
There are a few I really like but I guess I used my favorites, at least they were at the time lol. I do wish that I had used my mom's middle name for one of them.

What about nicknames? Got any that you'd like to share?

Probably not any that I *should* share :giggle

Are any family names special to you?
Not me specifically but there is a story that I've heard many times now. When my family (MacDonald) came to Manitoba from England way back when, there was already a family with the family name of MacDonald so we became the McDonald's instead.

Are you named after anyone?
Or did you name your kids after anyone? Or even a pet?

I'm not that I know of. There are a couple of links within my family though. My uncle's middle name (Russell) is my granddad's first name and my cousin's middle name (Vera) is my/her great grandmother's first name though I'm not sure the spelling is exactly the same.

Do you have favorite names?
Nope not really, it's not something I've ever thought of as I'll most likely never have kids for a variety of reasons

What about nicknames? Got any that you'd like to share?
If I don't go by my full name, I go by Jen but 99% of the time it's my full name. I did have one situation in the call centre I was working at where I went by Jen rather than Jennifer as there were two Jennifer's & to save confusion from anyone I went by Jen for all of my calls.

Same here ... I've been married and divorced and gathering the info to prove I am who I am to get a VA REAL ID. Getting a passport was easier!

Are any family names special to you? Yes, see #3
Are you named after anyone? No.
Or did you name your kids after anyone? Or even a pet? My son is named after his father, so he's a junior ... not sure I'd do that again b/c it can be confusing. My daughter is named after my grandmothers (middle names) Victoria Adelaide
Do you have favorite names? No particular ones any more, but if I'd had more kids I would have used more family names.
What about nicknames? Got any that you'd like to share? My father called me Cher-Cher as a kid, friends used to call me Cher, but when Sonny and Cher Bono hit the stage I forbid anyone to call me Cher b/c I took some grief from kids in high school who thought I was trying to copy Cher's name. Gotta love teens ...

I love to give people nicknames ... my son was "Larry Barry the Harry Canary" when he was little. My daughter was "Worm" b/c she wiggled like a worm.

Are any family names special to you? Yes. Michael and Patrick for boy names; and Catherine and Bridget for girl names.

Are you named after anyone? Yes. My father chose my name, and he named me after his mother. I never knew my paternal grandmother, she died of ovarian cancer five years before I was born. But my name gives me a real sense of connection to the grandmother I never knew.

Or did you name your kids after anyone? Or even a pet? My son James is named after the first of our Irish ancestors to emigrate to Canada.

Do you have favorite names? Oh yes, many. But I especially love Matthew for a boy, and Grace for a girl.

What about nicknames? Got any that you'd like to share? As Mary Catherine, I go by "Mary Cat," "Mary Cath," "Mary Kate," and "MC" for short. And there's also a family nickname that I'm not going to share, it's just too embarrassing

Are any family names special to you? The second names we gave our children were family names. Our oldest son after his dad, the second after his granddad. My daughter after my grandma.
Are you named after anyone? Nope.
Or did you name your kids after anyone? Or even a pet? Not their first names, see #1.
Do you have favorite names? Susan Black is the one I use as a pseudonym.
What about nicknames? Got any that you'd like to share? The cats Shadow = Rimpie, Indigo = Indie, thuglife, Archimedes = Pokkle.

I agree. It is at least in my kids names. When DH and I got married, we actually spoke about using my last name or doing a combo name... as he doesn't speak to and isn't close at all to anyone on that side of the family. I wish we had gone with my name. I think he would agree now too. lol!

My son is named after his father, so he's a junior ... not sure I'd do that again b/c it can be confusing. My daughter is named after my grandmothers (middle names) Victoria Adelaide

Talk about confusing...

My grandfather was Robert. His first son was named Robert, Jr. and his first son was Robert, III.

Daughter Suzanne named a son Robert. Daughter Suzanne's daughter married a Robert and their first son is named Robert.

Daughter Joan married a Robert and their first son was named Robert Jr. (but we called him Jay). Jay named his first son Robert III.

Daughter Meredith named her first son Robert.

Daughter Janice married a Robert and the first son is Robert Jr.

That is just the first 4 generations of the family! Some went by Bob, some went by Bobby and some went by Robert. Then there is Jay :) Thankfully there were only 3 of them actually named Marker. And, the youngest of those moved to Colorado after marriage. So there were only 2 Bob Marker's in town.

Oddly enough none of the other Marker sons named any of their sons after them. Uncle Bob was the only one. However, one uncle was named Warren Bruce but went by Mike. He did name is oldest son Michael Shane but he has always gone by Shane.

Having just traveled around Scandinavia I found their old naming convention to be interesting. The added ‘son’ or ‘dottir’ to surnames. Example, Eric had a son so Eric named him Ericson. When looking at old genealogy I finally realized why it was so confusing. Most of my nicknames come from my husband trying to be cute.

Rene ... my sister named her third son William (18) ... never mind my grandson (11 years older) is also William. They called him Billy until a couple of years ago. Whenever someone says William, I immediately think *my* William ...

Irks me ... so many names in the world why would you name your kid the same first name as your great-nephew??? But I had BILs that both named their daughters Jennifer ...

Said sister is 18 years younger than me, so same generation as my kids which explains why all of her kids are younger than my 3 older grandkids and Chase (19) is older than the youngest two.

I kept my maiden name. I was almost 9mo pregnant when we got married. We did things a little wonky. Moved in together, engaged, pregnant, married, baby. Now, I'm glad I didn't. Having a different last name as my children has never been an issue. If I was ever called Mrs. "theirlastname", I just went with it. I never corrected anyone.

My brother is named William (after our father). We have always called him Billy (our father goes by Bill). My sister-in-law and their friends/his business associates call him Will. I just can't. He will always be Billy. lol

Smart lady :goldstars :)

Are any family names special to you? I gave my maiden name as a middle name to my oldest, but beyond that, not really.
Are you named after anyone? I am not!
Or did you name your kids after anyone? Or even a pet? I got inspiration for my middle son's name when while watching Mötley Crüe :giggle
Do you have favorite names? I have all boys, but if I'd had a girl, she would have been Marlowe!
What about nicknames? Got any that you'd like to share? Some people call me "Sher" ... but there isn't much you can do with Sheri!

Love the name inspiration! lol! And the name Marlowe.
One of my college roommates was Sherry, but somehow she became Sherrygirl. (weird to think of it now, but it comes out easily if I see her) :giggle

I love it! One of my best friends is also Sherri and we call each other Sherriberri/Sheriberi ❤️

Yep!!! When my grandson was in elementary school I went in for his fall teacher's conference and the teacher when on and on about "Will." I finally said "Are we talking about William Rivera???" Turns out when asked by the teacher what he wanted to be called, William said "Will." He was 8, I adjusted ... but I'm afraid I'm always going to think/say "Billy, oops William." BWAHAHAHAHA!!! I still think of my sister as Pooh ... her childhood nickname that I've learned not to use. :)
