Do you have your eyes checked regularly?
From 21 - 65 just a few times. Now that I'm on Medicare I go regularly. In fact, I saw my optometrist yesterday b/c I had a large "floater" that was "stuck" in front of my eye. Of course, once I made the appointment it moved to the side. Still the doctor closely examined both of my eyes for any tears or other issues and did a computerized scan of both eyes. No issues, other than my normal floaters.

I had cataract surgery last spring.

Do you wear glasses or contacts? Prescription glasses as I'm myopic (near/short-sighted)

How old were you when you started wearing them? 10 years old
I'm glad you're able to have your eyes checked regularly now. Good luck with those floaters!

I use to wear glasses growing up. I had crossing in my eyes that I had corrected in high school. That I couldn't see things far away very well. Oddly enough with each child my eye sight got better and better and I no longer needed glasses. I haven't had any issues in years and haven't had my eyes checked. I do get a lot of nasty stys in my eyes though and have been seen on and off for those.

I should have a eye check just cause sometime in the near future as I am getting older.. so maybe I will plan one
You're lucky that each child helped your eyes get better! I wish that was the case for me!

Do you have your eyes checked regularly? Yep

Do you wear glasses or contacts? Yep! I currently wear progressive glasses

How old were you when you started wearing them? I think I was about 3 or 4 when I got glasses. I had a lazy eye that turned in and I have astigmatism and was near sighted. I started with glasses, switched to contacts for over 20 years and then had lasik after I had my kids. Now I'm back to glasses again because I'm old. :giggle

Yup, once a year bc we all have bad eyesight in the family.
I wear glasses, the thought of poking my eyes freaks me out. I can’t do it & the eye dr has a hard time getting drops in my eyes
I was in my late 20s when I had to get them. I had a hard time seeing signs at night so I’m like that’s a no, no.

Not really... when do you start? Just regular checks when I occasionally go to the doctor. I pry should start, only to stay ahead of any problems, right?

Do you wear glasses or contacts?

No. Though I'm guessing in the next couple years I will need readers or something, based on family history. I think my phone is still set on the smallest font, but I will enlarge it... only cause how much i read on my phone. Make it easier rather then stress them out, I guess. lol! I really have no idea!
I don’t know if there’s a recommendation of when to start but I agree that it’s probably better to stay ahead of the problems.

I think I was about 10 when I got my first pair of glasses. I'm short sighted. I tried contacts for a few weeks but didn't get on with them.
I’m taking my daughter to get contacts today; I’m curious if she will like them or not.

I wore glasses for a few years as a kid, then didn't need them anymore. I didn't wear "cheaters" until just a few years ago. Now, I have prescription glasses for close-up (my eyes are not the same) and distance. Yes, I have to go to the eye doctor regularly. I had implants a few years ago and have to go in and have them checked regularly.
I’ve never heard of implants; are they permanent contacts?

Do you have your eyes checked regularly? Nope. I had them checked when I was a kid and remember being told I had 20/20 in one eye and even better than that in the other eye. And I never had any eye issues until just a few years ago when reading books began to tire my eyes.

Do you wear glasses or contacts? So now I have glasses I use just for reading books.

How old were you when you started wearing them? I started wearing them last January, just a couple months after my 50th birthday.

My long distance vision has also decreased, but it's not an issue. I just have to be closer to street signs before I can see them sharply. I still see them just fine in time for driving.
Reading books tires my eyes too. I’m glad you got some glasses that help.

I have my eyes checked about once a year. Just went a couple of weeks ago. This actually reminded me that my new glasses are in and I need to go pick them up.

I wear glasses currently. I have progressives for general wear, and a single-vision pair for computer use. I usually take my glasses off when I'm using my phone. I've always been very nearsighted and started wearing glasses at about age 5. When I was about 7, they started me on a program with hard contact lenses that was supposed to correct my vision as I grew. It didn't really do much and I got a lot of corneal abrasions. I wore contacts most of the time up until about age 30. Once I had kids, it just got to be too much of a hassle to bother with.

My eyes lately get a little "better" each year as the aging tendency for far-sightedness offsets a bit of my nearsightedness. I mainly notice it as the overcorrected prescription makes it harder to read highway signs. I doubt it will ever get to the point that I don't need glasses though, so I just keep having to fork over the money for new glasses as needed. :)
Corneal abrasions sound painful; it’s too bad that’s all you got from the hard contacts.
I’m glad your eyes are slowly getting better; enjoy the new glasses! I’m waiting for my daughter’s newest pair to be ready.

I should have my eyes tested every 2 years, they recommend every year for me but as every time I step into the optometrist I end up with new glasses to the tune of $400-500 I’m well overdue.

I wear glasses for everything as I have very limited useful sight in my left eye and can’t see too far with the right.

I think I may have been around 2 years old when I got my first pair of glasses
I had no idea how much glasses cost until my daughter needed them. They can be so expensive!

I do suspect I need some readers but so far I'm okay.

Our piano teacher suggested that I have my daughter's eyes checked as she leans in so close to read the music...what's weird is that I do all of her schooling at home and haven't noticed her doing this. I'm wondering what the difference could be. I actually did take her to get checked a few years ago as she was having headaches and I thought it might have something to do with her eyes. But they were fine. I might go again just to double check. So far, out of 7 kids, no one needs glasses!
That’s interesting about your daughter. I wonder if the lighting is different in her piano teacher’s house maybe?

Do I check my eyes regularly - yep, absolutely. I drag my husband with me every year and my son every six months. Husband wears glasses full time and son wears them for all written/computer work.

Do I wear glasses - um, it’s complicated. I’ve had them for twenty years but for most of that time they were intended to loosen my vision. I could see properly but focused so tightly it gave me headaches. More recently I have seperate glasses for computer and reading/close craft work but I don’t wear them as much as I should.

The real surprise for me was discovering my then-four year old needed them. Apparently kids with his problem often turn their eyes in when tired but he’s never had any symptoms. It turns out that he was using seven times the effort of kids the same age to focus. The glasses have made a world of difference to his reading and writing and I am SO glad my mum (an ex-teacher) suggested I take him before he started school just in case. She wasn’t expecting the need for glasses either!
I was surprised when my daughter needed glasses too! I had no idea!

I had cataract surgery, and it was the newest procedure. Lazer surgery and they implanted little lenses in my eyes. I have to carry a card with me in case I have any problems going through airport security - LOL - like I never fly. You can see them reflecting in the right light. My grandkids love to try to see my implants. Hahaha

I’m sorry you had to go back to glasses after lasik; that must be a pain!
I want to see a picture of little you with glasses now. :) I bet you were adorable in them!

Interesting Cheryl! Thanks for teaching me something new! I love that your grandkids try to see them haha

I've gotten to the point that I do not change frames if I have a prescription change. Frames can be expensive. I just get new lenses. Still expensive but not as expensive as getting whole new glasses! I also stopped getting the transition lenses (go darker in sunlight). They never lightened up quick enough for me. Even 10 years ago the cost for that for me was over $100.

I am the worst with eye drops! My family laughs at me because I’m worse than the kids haha

I tried keeping the frames one year and it ended up being more expensive somehow! I was very annoyed.

Interesting, I had cataract surgery last spring, but I wasn’t given a card to carry or warned that I might have issues with airport security due to my artificial lenses.

I have myopia and astigmatisms in both eyes. And as I age, presbyopia set in and is getting worse. I tend to have annual eye exams. Growing up I wore contacts (had to wear glasses as a school aged girl - but I didn't wear them). Contact prescriptions tended to be good for one year - requiring one to get annual eye exams in order to get new contacts.

My eyes have been dynamic over the years - constantly getting worse and worse (increased prescription). I am very due now to increase the reader strength of my bifocals.

I always joke that if we were still in the hunter-gatherer age, I would have to be the medicine woman and have people bring me food. Other wise I'd starve to death. There is no way I could see food to hunt or gather. I am loss without corrective lenses.
